Hi Merv, Fair play .. but I would guess the TDR is more fun !! Regards Jim
  2. And what would that be ? Regards Jim
  3. Oh OK, I guess there is a seal problem there .... send it back & I would guess the replacment will work fine .... but if it does not just check out the gaskit in the rear pipe as there may be a production problem Regards Jim
  4. Hi Drewps, dohc & sohc XS400's do have more in common than old XS650's. the single carb/manifolds were looked at it the 70/80's and disregarded as it (at that time) was difficult to get an SU carb to to run on a 'modern' engine but as the 'modern' engine is now old I would guess that this is now possible, but tbh I would prefer the orginal twin carb set up. Regards Jim
  5. Just make sure you are correct ....! Regards Jim
  6. Hi Goff Mine was called Old Swinford Hospital Worcestershire/West Midlands (depends on which year you look at) ..... and to a degree that powdered orange juice was poo (did you have the prefects hitting your hand if you took over the odds on the biccie stakes ?) and what are weekend visits .... ? we had ½ days either side of half term .... you had it easy !!! Regards JIm
  7. Thanks for clearing that up, it now (in my mind) appears that younger people have a different agenda to when I was young ( feeling old) Regards Jim
  8. Hi Jim thats what I said !!!! Regards Jim
  9. Hi Goff, that cool you did better on the prep periods than I did .... by the age of 14 I was doing 6pm till 9pm & our sat morning was 4 periods followed by sport in the afternoon !!! (no escape !!!) and as you can guess I was a boarder too ! I went for motor cycles which again is not the norm but tbh I went there & disregarded anything else that my rural roots may have taught me ! Regards Jim

Hi Merv, I guess someone has to have a Honda Regards Jim
  11. hmmm I would guess youth is anyone under the age of 25 ... so what do you call a bank holiday ? Regards Jim
  12. Yep well correct .... but I would also check that your new licence is vaild for use abroad ... tbh I would guess there is no chance you could hire a bike abroad (or here) on such a new licence, there may be some odd rules that don't allow you to ride in another country until a period has expired, I guess I'm wrong but if I'm not you could be doing 10 years in 'Sing Sing' (prison) just thro a lack of research ! Regards Jim
  13. We used to have Jack's Day may Grandfather insisted on it .... he felt the country would not be reborn in the spring without it ! Regards Jim
  14. Oh OK, not anything I know anything about & it was just a search, but take into account my beginnings in a rural area this was not taught to us at all ... there after to private school & tbh this was focused turning you into the next MP/CEO gladly they failed..... I ended up doing the motorcycle examinations (city & guilds) an returning to a rural area until my grand parents died ... but thats another story ... sorry for my misaligned comments Regards Jim
  15. Perhaps the law is wrong if your 17 or 27 you will not pick up the concept of riding a bike of that power within a week with that in mind perhaps when you take the test on a 125 (for all) you have to stick with that for a time then move up to say 40bhp for another period of time then unlimited after maybe 2~4 years rather than 7 days in some cases (from no license to full). I went out & picked up the bikes from fatal accidents, when you could ride a 250 on L's, and tbh a lot of times it was down to rider inexperience (hence the 125 law) and it would appear all the good thoughts in altering the law have been forgotten, for some 7 days training puts an R1 on the road with the rider having no idea on how to ride it. Regards Jim
  16. Hi Ben, First thing to think about are you looking at the tap in the side panel or the tank (behind the the fuel pump) ? I guess the side panel one & if so there is no OFF (the fuel pump handles this) Res would connect both on & reserve pipes to ensure all fuel is taken from the tank. Pri would connect reserve to outlet in order to bypass the normal circuts and of course in the on position that pipe will sit inline in order to supply fuel Regards Jim
  17. Hi the actual part number is 31A-82305-10-00 have a look around the net for one but on a quick search I drew a blank ! Regards Jim
  18. Hi Mark, just go steady with the inlet 'adjustments' as over doing it may cost you more than what you may gain in BHP/speed Regards Jim
  19. Hi DirtyDT, I guess the tail pipe was not a good fit to the exhaust system then ? but if the exhaust is a different brew to the tail pipe there is a chance there may be some difference in their sizes and the replacement will leak also Regards Jim

  21. Hi Goff, where does this come from During the mid 1700's the Parisian salón, a gathering of social and intellectual figures normally held in the home of a wealthy noblewoman, was reaching its height in popularity. The average salón was a forum for discussion and debate, and also the place of most social interaction among the wealthy and elite. Madame Chappieus, the wife of a French noble, was known to hold a highly popular salón in her husband's home while he was away on diplomatic business. Outwardly, this salón was no different than the others of the Paris scene. However, research has concluded that Madame Chappieus' salón was in fact only a front for celebrations of the most despicable kinds of debauchery. The wicked underground of Paris flocked to her doors to enter a world of decadence, orgy, and demonology. this came from a seach on The Diviner's Secert Window ( http://www.pyramid-gallery.com/SecretWindow.html ) and tbh decadence, orgy and demonolgy do't do anything for me ! Regards Jim
  22. Hi Drewps, I would guess there are very few people left with working XS2 carbs (34mm 650). but you need to take into account that the XS400 manifolds were/are staight where as the XS2/XS650 are slightly offset and may not produce a seal within XS400 the manifolds, this would hold out as the older carbs (34mm) will 'sort of' fit and as the offset is increased on the larger venturi there is no chance ! If they do fit & are jetted to suit what happens with the progression holes/ports in the carbs ? if they don't match the motor/o.e spec there is a chance the bike will drop 'into holes' when the incorrect holes/ports take over the carburation but as you have improvised I would guess you know how to over come that problem. Regards Jim
  23. That is were the test is now wrong ... I did my test & tore the L plates off the RD200 and rode it for some time ... there was never an option (if you are over 25) to hire a smallish bike pass your test then get on something there is no chance you can handle.... jumping off my RD200 10 mins after I passed my test onto an XS1100 would have been a route to disaster .. I know I could have done it but I had to pay off the 200 b4 I could have anything else which gave some time learning how to ride with passengers and the extra points they make on riding. If I had just hired a bike for the test I would have been able to finance a large bike and perhaps live the finance agreement in my will ! Regards Jim
  24. That would look good pulling up on a DT50 !!! no worries just having a laff Regards Jim
  25. if the bike is still over just make sure you do nowt wrong ... taking youth from the equation I think I would not be able to ride a bike on the wrong side of the road without some more riding/driving experience if you do it just make sure you don't do the islands backwards ! Regards Jim
