Hey all I'm looking to take my MT 125 down to the isle of Wight to see my mum this summer any ideas on the best types of panniers ? I have the tank bag just need panniers for the back [emoji2]

Any tips on cameras to I'm thinking of filming the journey.

Cheapest method would be some cloth panniers, throw over the back seat type thing, your not going to want hard cases as they will look bloody awful and cost a fortune. Ebay is the best place to find some, I bought a second hand set a few years ago and they were about £30 plus P&P.

When I had my YBR, I bought a rolltop bag from Oxford called RT15. Comes with a liner so contents remain dry and is pretty cheap (if memory serves).

I originally had just one as you can buy them separately, so that just got lashed to the pillion seat, but you can buy another and connect them together to behave as panniers. Good for if you need to spread out your money, or only head out on smaller trips.

I once did a wet October ride down to my parents house with it on the back. Rained nearly all day (about a 12 hour ride as needed to detour to Birmingham) but contents remained dry. Think I have a picture somewhere if needed.

Throwovers or a waterproof stuffa bag are the best bet.

If I was doing it I would post clothes to my mum and ride without any paniers. Alternatively go to Primark when you get there and buy some stuff for £3 each.

Good luck on the touring, rather you than me on the MT125 though. The most I've managed on mine is 225 miles (with just one 5 minute fuel stop) in a stint, but I do have a dodgy back. DT's suggestion regarding posting your gear is a good one, if you use one of the parcel aggregation firms to book a courier (such as Parcel2Go or ParcelMonkey) it can be surprisingly cheap. How many days are you planning on taking to get there ?

Ha! g1hsd id be approaching my 3rd fuel stop at 225 miles and the seat would have cut me in 2 with the exhaust cooking my knackers.

I'm planning on stopping off at Alton towers for couple days then heading to isle of Wight for couple days and the same on the way back up never thought about posting some stuff think my mum and step dad are going to follow back up to Scotland in the car so won't have to post stuff back.

If I can find a nice bag set or something just for couple days clothes I should be good.

P.s. I've ordered the nice comfy seat for the bike!

Defo check out the Oxford rolltop range as it's nice and cheap. Alternatively all I do on my bike is strap a hold-all (North Face) to the pillion seat and put my contents in dry bags (Exped). Cheap as I use both for camping and other things anyway, so not bike specific. Got some ROK straps to tie everything down, they are well worth the money.

2nd set look ace Tommy, plus they have a set of rain covers so at least the kit inside will be out of the worst of the weather.

Off to bike shop tomorrow to do a bit of shopping I will let you know what I go for love the Oxford rolltop and the panniers. And I'll let you know bippo when I'm going nothing better than riding with others. I'm usually the line rider going the other way.
