Do we think Drag Stars will ever become 'collectible'?

I mean like Fizzies and early Yammies (RDs etc.) have?

If we'd all bought RDs 10-15 years ago (when they were real cheap) we'd be sitting on a bit of an 'investment' now.

Same with MK1 Ford Escorts - couldn't give them away 20 years ago . . . have you seen the prices now?

I guess I'm trying to figure the next 'thing'. :)

Your thoughts gentlemen?

In short, No.

Escorts Mk1's, I had a couple but always wanted a Mexico in poo brown.

RD's - here are the 2 400's I own at the moment. I also have a Suzi TS250C (1978), a 1965 YA-6 125cc project and a FZ8.

A good TDR250 is a very good buy, It's just finding a good one.

Much as I love them, I'd have to say no.

Draggies are cheap Cruisers.
They're hardy as fuck and will take a LOT of abuse... but eventually they will die. 40,000 miles seems to be the average before things start to give out.

Perhaps in 40 or so years they may have some nostalgic value, but they'll not be highly sought collectors items.

Who knows is my answer. As you know I'm into auld Triumphs and the prices of those are exhorbitant, even the wee 200cc Tiger Cubs are well over a grand.

Look at the prices of xs250s nowadays, they are the Yam equivalent to grey porridge, as Cubs and the like were called. Look at xs1100s

Heres my tale of woe

1980 xs250 bought 1981 for £625 sold 1984 for £125 selling now for £500 upwards

1978 cb400/4 " 1981 for £180 sold 1983 for £400 selling now for well over £800

1980 T140D " 1983 for £1100 stolen 1989 Ins paid £1600 now selling for over £5k

1955 Speedtwin " 1985 for £110 sold 1988 for £250, selling now for well over £5k

1979 xs1100 " 1990 for £380 sold 2001 for £850 selling now for £2500 -£3500

So as I say who knows, the prices of aulder Japs are climbing up and up so in maybe 20 years....

edit//: Just looked on fleabay 3 xs11s at a grand and under and 2 at £3999, although whether they sell at that we'll probably never know

I highly doubt they will be collector's items. They are after all like the Guys said above.

Plus I think the only ones that will fetch the most money in years to come are the standards ones and the ones not fucked about with by blokes like me ha ha

Generally to end up collectable they need to be memorable, and, well. Rd's were the fastest, TDR250's put people in prison or hospital, there has to be something.

Hell people swoon over cx500's so you never know.

I like Triumphs too. A TR6 would be very nice.

I haven't found it yet.............................................but there is no harm in looking.

I have just had the builder around to quote for a large slab of concrete for a shed base so I am sure I can squeeze another bike in the eventual workshop. I can't remember which way 'round it goes. Do you build a workshop and fill it with bikes or do you fill the garden with bikes and see what size workshop you need? :shrug:

I think when the 30/40 Year old now , in 10 years will re-buy what they had as first bikes, .

The YZF R1 1998 red/white will be the next brough superior , :yeah: .but the market will not be fueled by as many old bikers,

As we " were all on motorcycles when left school. most of my mates had a bike , till they passed the car test,,,

Cant see the volume of buyers, once were gone,,, :cloud9:

just about any 2 stroke commands top money now, really hard to find a bargain, if you had a shed full 2ts no matter the condition your laughing. Best not to restore them though as you won't get the money back, sad but true :shakeno:
