FFS, why??

As I write this, 5 of the top 7 threads in the bar are WORKSHOP questions. It only takes elementary reading skills to find the WORKSHOP section and post WORKSHOP questions.

In case help is needed, WORKSHOP is spelt like this. WORKSHOP

Having been guilty if this myself I would like to defend newbies who perhaps use smart phones. When you have visited anywhere in General, when in mobile version, all Yamaha sections including workshop disappear from view and it is only when you scroll all the way to the top that you can go back to 'Home' when you can then see all the section headings.

My first post was in the bar section (my bad) because after writing a brief intro I scrolled down and there was no workshop section visible. This and after visiting the bar I saw others had also raised queries there!

The defence rests, your honour.

I understand that there will be occasional postings in the wrong section. I use my phone to access the forum. I am now using tapatalk 2 which I recommend. This can also cause double posts where the 3/4G service is patchy.

A problem arises when a new poster comes along and, seeing a number of workshop threads in the bar, does the same in the mistaken belief that they are doing the right thing. They can then get told to post an intro and post in the right section as their first reply. This doesn't show the newbie the true helpful nature of the forum. Recently, the newbie first question posters tend to get a very supportive hint to post in the newbie section - this does depend on how their original post comes across - and a lot of them shoot straight over and post an intro. Hopefully, this means that the new member will stick around for a lot longer than one question. Better to get it right than possibly being ignored.

The Mods have the power to correct most things. This includes; changing titles; moving, hiding, deleting, combining threads; and more. All that is required is for the OP to post that they want the thread moved etc or PM a Mod and this is easily done. A Mod may take this upon themselves to do this anyway. If anyone thinks they need some help, just shout. The Mods don't bite and can help.

I forgot to add that there should be no excuse for regular visitors using the wrong section. That IS just plain rude!

I don't want to get into finger pointing fella. Just for people to have a think.

We all cock up from time to time and it isn't a "life or death" situation. just meant as a reminder and for people to seek assistance if they need it.

Indeed not! In fact if I remember correctly you offered assistance without me having to ask on one of my first visits here. :)

This is a bikers site not a poets or debating society, personally I don't care what goes where so long as we help each other out. when we need it.

This is a bikers site not a poets or debating society, personally I don't care what goes where so long as we help each other out. when we need it.

But isn't that the point? The reason that there are different sections is that people can follow what interests them. Some people may not visit a particular section, Classics for example, because they may not have any interest in classic bikes. Having different sections allows people to just follow what they want without trawling through everything else.

Maybe the question should be; why should anyone be against posting in the correct section?

I disagree with the comment about "debating society". There have been some good debates and opinions shared, and sought, over the years on this forum.

Well really sorry for my post in the bar, I use an ipad, where is the workshop?

If its the same as the iPhone, you need to go back to the home page, then scroll all the way down to the bottom

No need to apologise fella.

The beauty of having the workshop - and other specialist sections - is that the people with an interest and knowledge of these specialties tend to "hang about" in them more often. This normally gives a better selection of advice, opinion or help.

Easily remedied.

Look like I'm guilty of posting a tech question in the bar! Scrolled down the forum page but couldn't see the workshop sub-forum, found several tech posts in the bar so added another one.

Im with DDT on this i use the forum and moderate entirely by phone. Pictures etc. The mobile site if anything is faster and more concise.

As to posting in the wrong section. Just above the start topic button it shows what part your in. Just tap the yamaha owners tag at the top and scroll to whatever your flavour may be.

If thats too tricky, the big white light on the bike is the front the red one is at the back.... :)
