As and when i am permitted to buy parts (without getting kicked out to live in the shed or threatened with divorce), and actually start doing my bike up, I would like to change its number plate to something more suitable.

Its currently on an age related 1983 plate.

What can i go for and wheres the best place to look? whenever i look at a web page the price for the one i fancy is for some reason the most expensive.

Anybody been down this road?

If you can find a scrap bike on ebay with a plate you like transfer the number and sell off the pars from the bike to recoup the money or even turn a profit

Have to ask - why? It's just a means of identifying the machine for the cash collection operatives, an easily remembered number could be a disadvantage:

Plod - "Can you remember anything about the nasty biker who zoomed past at 200mph?"

Scenario 1 - ordinary plate:

Doris - "It was a red bike, that I know, think the number plate had an N and a 5 in it, or was it an S?"

Scenario 2 - 'Wanker plate':

Doris - "It was a red bike, that I know, oh and the number plate spelt PR1CK"

Most are done via agents hence if you search a number on a couple of reg plate sites the same one turns up. A Drewps said............ "supply and demand". The government want their cut but you can hold a plate on a retention certificate. The bike would have to be legal so buying a scrappy with no MOT means that you can't swap that plate until the bike has a ticket. Also the plate can not seem to make the bike newer so if your bike is a '83 you can only have a plate registered before that.

You could always change your name to something like AZS 291 W by deed poll as this would only cost £13.39

I was amazed to see the incredible prices of personalised car registration plates in an advert recently. However, Halfords kindly did me a set of "NEV1" for £30, saving me about £10,000.

Hi try DVLA, '83 plates or earlier will as the rest have said will cost you more than a new bike/car/house/world cruise. follow the advise find a vehicle with the plates and start spending money.

I've got a personalized number plate. But I had to change my name to W4N KER
