Moderator drewpy Posted May 22, 2011 Moderator Posted May 22, 2011 So far cheapest quote ive had for the frame only is £230 to be shotblasted and powdercoated, is this a decent price or a ripoff?. sounds expensive http://www.triple-s.co.uk/prices.htm they charge £89 for yours (in black), all threads covered, shotblasted and powder coated!
wild foamy Posted May 23, 2011 Author Posted May 23, 2011 sounds good, will have to pay the £50 courier charge as west yorkshire is too far from me to drop off in the car, would cost me more than that to get there each way!. have pinged them an email and hopefully will be able to get a few other parts powdercoated aswell (surge tank for example) EDIT: just recieved a reply from triple-S and they will charge around £250 to collect, shotblast, powdercoat and deliver the frame, swingarm, handlebars, engine covers, sidestand, mainstand and seat pan, so the rest of the bike will be dismantled shortly after i get back and prepped ready to go
Moderator DirtyDT Posted May 26, 2011 Moderator Posted May 26, 2011 Should this picture be in the "Blokes" thread Drewps? Does the frame fancy going for a drink one night
Moderator Cynic Posted May 26, 2011 Moderator Posted May 26, 2011 Think you have lost out there mate, the frame apears to have its spindle firmly burried in the swinger. Oh hang on, er,
Moderator Cynic Posted May 26, 2011 Moderator Posted May 26, 2011 Art, Porn or just a machine? That is a question you could level at every motorcycle, answers on a postcard.
Moderator drewpy Posted May 26, 2011 Moderator Posted May 26, 2011 wait till you see the rest of the bike.... anyway
Badgerofmight Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 That is a question you could level at every motorcycle, answers on a postcard. Asthetically pleasing, complex, engaging, and all components working together in harmony to move the subject. I'd say that qualifies as art...
vic-fzr600 Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 I popped into one of my local dealerships on saturday, they have an XJ Turbo there with only 580 miles on it - that's better than porn to Foamy.....
David Baker Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 That's what you can find down the bottom of your shed if your not careful haha
wild foamy Posted June 1, 2011 Author Posted June 1, 2011 Vic: just curious, what sort of money were they after for that turbo?. ive decided to get another used tank aswell, should hopefully have most if not all of the parts required when i get back to the UK, then its a case of stripping everything down ready for powdercoating, was considering getting the engine cases powdercoated but is it really worth it and will it look right?, also the handlebars were chrome plated at one point but most of it has flaked off, since they are going to be hidden under a cover is it worth getting them re-chromed? im not looking to get the bike to concourse condition but as good and as near to original spec as i can get it for under £2,000
barkwindjammer Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Powder coat is a polymer and not suitable for engine temps, might be ok on the bars if you completely strip all the chrome off, or you could get them re-chromed with some of that 2k you have burning a hole in your pocket-just means polishing all the time
vic-fzr600 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Foamster, I don't think they even had a price on it - was more a centrepiece for attention! I remember walking into another dealers many years ago & they had a Honda NR750 sitting on display (I've nearly stopped drooling now)
Knight3179 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Pji Fast Black works fine on the engine, as for casings i painted the outside and polished the centres Bought a NOS clutch cover centre from an xj750 which fits fine and looks the part i do recommend soda blasting the block before you paint it, makes for a far nicer finish The Pump cover just needs the gold inlay doing Or send your small bits to me and i'll do them in with mine, or can swap your old stuff from my 2nd turbo
wild foamy Posted June 2, 2011 Author Posted June 2, 2011 blimey Knight, lets hope i can get my "working parts" to look as good as that!. i think i will stick with the original clutch cover for now to keep it as original as i can, as for the cases after seeing how good your have turned out im going to paint them instead, the handlebars will be powdercoated though, isnt really much point in rechroming them as they are going to be hidden under a plastic cover anyway, or i could get some "chrome in a can" from halfrauds lol and no 2-wheels, i havent finished it yet lol, im still out of the country, but im now stockpiling parts ready for when im back
wild foamy Posted June 29, 2011 Author Posted June 29, 2011 well peeps its been a while, less than two weeks now and i will be tearing into that turbo getting it ready for powdercoating/painting/rechroming, havent yet managed to find a decent new-old-stock 100/90-19 front tyre (got myself an avon roadrider for £15 for the XJ600 though, sweet!) all the bits are waiting at home, everything from the brake pads, caliper seal kits, the new seat i got from america, even a load of PJ1 cans!, its going to be like christmas day when i get back!
Knight3179 Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Ah theres nothing better than a big pile of boxes of new parts
wild foamy Posted June 30, 2011 Author Posted June 30, 2011 ah yes there will be bubblewrap and cardboard everywhere, like a masacre at a shipping depot
