78 DT400 Posted May 30, 2010 Share Posted May 30, 2010 Greetings all..... I havent been on this website for quite some time. I was tinkering with the toughts of selling my 78 DT400, but I have changed my mind and I think I will keep her. Has anyone restored one of these? Mine is complete. It needs a tank repaint and new decal stickers. I am needing to find an original, maybe NOS, Front Fender in yellow. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions regarding these bikes? Thanx! Decals you will get from http://www.reproductiondecals.com Re your fender you will be hard pushed to find a nos one but ebay always has a good selection of parts search dt250. I see these on eBay here on the west coast of the states occasionally. I know a co-worker has one as well. That link is a gem! I must Thank You very much for that one. There was a guy on eBay who repainted and reinstalled decals for these & other bikes but I lost that contact seller. He did Gas Tank repaints as well. That fender is tough! Ive been looking for a few years; just not so regularly. Some guy in Thailand seems to sell them; I dont know if they are correct????? I need to restore the front fork tubes, repaint my tank and install new decals, and detail the rest of the small stuff. Typicall stuff I guess. On the Motor, I would really like to improve the carbeuretor and add an better flowing air filter then have a custom designed Chamber Exhaust pipe made for it. I sorta kept this one after I sold a few of the Yamaha's that Ive owned. The reason I searched out this particular bike was the fact that I couldnt live without a 2-Stroke! The Enduro was the answer once I researched out what was available. I started on a 1979 Yamaha Daytona Special. It had a set of pipes. That bike belonged to a friend of mine. I learned how to ride on that bike. Then I owned an RZ 350; that bike was a ton of fun. Easy to ride, easy to manuever, easy to operate. Quite possibly the perfect Daytona overall. My thirst wasnt enough and thus I had to own an RZ 500! I purchased a Canadian version; I was hooked. You may not like this but I sold it to purchase a Walter Wolf RG 500 Gamma. I must say, as I recall, that RZ handled so much better than the RG. Even though the RZ had the steel frame, the RG having that Aluminum frame, I still feel that my steel framed RZ out cornered, out performed that RG!!! (The RZ 500 was stock, but that WW Gamma had a set of Wolf Pipes on it. Guys could here me coming thru the canyons miles ahead!!!) Well, enough of that, here I stand still owning a 2 Stroke, and let it be : a 1978 DT400!
