  1. I don't think they are that helpful when it means losing out on work.
  2. I had a restrictor fitted to my 2004, XVS650 when I purchased it, I am now out of my 2 years and now want it removed. The restrictor is supplied by FI International and was fitted by my local dealer. I am not sure where it is located (the restrictor not my local dealer), air intake side or exhaust side and if it is a big job to remove it. If I can do the work myself I can save £50.00 and then spend it on shiny things for the bike. Any advice would be gratefully received.
  3. Hi Goff and thanks for the information, I managed to find a black 950 in one of my local dealers today, as you say its so light, noticed this when lifting it upright from the side stand. Trying to find a dealer with the blue paintwork version to have a look. Think I need a change from the chrome and black. Now all I have to do is get the permission from the Bank Manager (Wife) and Financial Advisor (Daughter) and I think this is the one for me. Thank-you for the reply, its good to get the real facts from an owner.
  4. Hi I am thinking of trading in my XVS 650 for a Midnight Star 950 is there anyone on the forum that has any experience of the 950, GOFF being one who might be able to advise. Anything regarding rider comfort, reliability, teething problems etc. Look forward to your replies and info.
  5. Hi, the names Ian, age 58, rode bikes from the age of 16 years to 22 years old (50cc - 250 cc) didn't take test, riding on L plate. Sold the bike and bought a car (Vauxhall Victor FB, total rust bucket, eventually broke in half) had many cars over the years, got married, had kids, never really had spare money to buy a bike. Worked a lot of overtime, eventually bought a beautiful XVS 125 two years ago and instantly became a cool dad and immediately won the admiration of my kids, friends and neighbours (wish I had bought one sooner). Passed my CBT and gained road experience over the next 3 months, a large percentage of that time practicing U turns, then took my theory and test, passed both and had a ceremonial burning of L plates. Rode the 125 for 9 months and then bought an XVS 650, many visits to the shop with shiny chrome objects, kitted out the bike and now she is my pride and joy. Loving every moment of motorcycling again and will carry on riding until the knees give out.
  6. Hi, I returned to motorcycling 3 years ago after a 30+ year lapse. I bought an XVS125 for learning and taking my test. I can recommend this bike, it is easy to ride, corner and stop in a hurry if it all goes wrong, the only drawback is the top speed. There is plenty of chrome and accessories you can add to give it that custom look and the bike looks a lot bigger than it actually is so you get plenty of attention. Taking the test was no problem apart from the U turn section, due to the longer profile of the bike I had to practice for a long time to get the footbrake technique right. After passing my test I rode the bike for another year to gain experience and then easily traded it in for an XVS650. This experience on the 125 was invaluable to get me back into motorcycle riding and gave me the confidence with riding the heavier 650. Whatever your choice Ride Safe and enjoy the biking experience.
  7. Hi thanks for the info, I will check what type of restricter is fitted the weekend. Ian.
  8. Hi to everyone, I'm new to the Yamaha Owners Club and this is my first topic listing, fingers crossed it all goes well. I have to get a restricter removed from my XVS650 in the next few months, if I remove it myself will the bike need an engine re-tune.
