  2. I remember this issue. As it turned out it was loose wires coming out of the ignition barrel and the vibrations from the engine, at 5K, shook the connection loose. I soldered it back up, and all was good P.S. it has taken me this long to sort the problem out
  3. Pics you say? Spacer in yoke other one I should have taken more off here and less off the spedo drive. I will now I have a spare drive 2mm off each face Speedo drive Original Spacer used Speedo drive Looks like it fits to me
  4. OK! So in the end I've went for the 750 wheel and TRX disc option. I had to shave about 2mm of the inside of where the callipers mate to the fork legs to allow the discs to run through the callipers, I've head this is important I used the original spacer for the left hand side(looking at the front of the bike) had to shave off some of the speedo drive/spacer on the right. Also I made the bottom of the right hand fork the same width as the left. All has been running well for the last 300 miles or so. Other than something is making a groove in the left hand disc. I can hear it digging in when I apply the brake, but the pad (all new EBC discs and pads BTW) is clean from any chunks of metal...... not sure what's going on there, but I'm in the garage again this afternoon with and electrical problem so I might get chance to look at it then.
  5. Hi peeps. I was down the local racetrack the other day, driving along fine. I went to change gear and the bike died and the rev counter dropped to zero, then fired up again and all was well, for about 1 min then it dies, in the same way, but this time didn't start up. I'm on the fooking motorway BTW! So I pull over and go to start it again. It starts, but as soon as the rev counter hits 5k, it dies. Complete electrical failure, lights the lot. Leave it a couple of seconds and it'll fire up but dies again at 5k! Any ideas? Has anyone had the same problem with their bike?
  6. Does anyone know the tyre pressures for a YZF750? A friend has my manual and I cant get hold of him...
  7. I am a very, very, very lucky man!

  10. This may help you: Hi John, A new pair of EBC Prolite discs (carriers and outers) for your '94 YZF750R would be £215, delivered in 2-3 working days. Cheers Vince <[email protected]> He was advertising on ebay. drop him a line. you were using ebc prolites weren't you? And there is the brembo(916/748) option...
  11. honkdawillydahonk do you know if the Thundercat use the same wheel as it big brother?
  12. Oh BTW I was told by someone at DK Spares that 2003 R1 uses 230mm discs! Thanks m8;)
  13. This is great news So I have two options: 1) Use a thunderace wheel, which will allow me to use R1 298mm (what a daft size!) discs and keep the speedo. 2) Use TRX850 discs on my standard YZF wheel and keep the speedo. I now have two things to do a search on eBay for! Hallelujah! Thanks guy's, I'm sure this will help others at some point. Will let you know what happens. John.
  14. Are you saying 2003 R1 uses 320mm discs, but the callipers from a 2003 R1 have a longer reach than the blue star R1 callipers? If I could find a disc that would fit both YZF750 wheel and R1 callipers I would be happy to loose 10mm, that's not the problem: Is there a difference in disc diameter between 2003 R1 and earlier R1's? If so what are they and what years do the changes appear on?
  15. Hi all. I have, as you may know, a YZF750. I bought some R1 2003 forks to replace my original ones. I have had some shims made up to fit the gap in the bottom yoke. I have the wheel aligned central, the callipers (also R1, blue star type) line up, but I have one big problem: The 320mm discs on my YZF wheel are getting in the way of mounting the callipers on the fork mounts. The callipers are about 10mm away from the mounts. Does anyone know what year R1 has 310mm discs other than 2003, should I be looking for a pre injection model? I have also considered selling the 2003 R1 forks and buying a set of older R1 forks that would take a 320mm disc. Has anyone done this? Has anyone got any suggestions? Thanks for your help ppl, John.
  16. I've had that happen to me. They seem to be a bit rubbish these yamaha ignitions:)
  17. When you press the start button, do any light on the dash come up?
  18. I asked the guy, just for fun, what kind of mpg he got, but hes never run it. If i get £2500 in the next few days, its mine!
  19. E-Bay Link Is this for real? 170BHP from this engine? If so, what kind of maintenance would be involved? Rebuild every 3000?!!? LOL, what about mpg? --------------------- Here's an update, of sorts, for 31.3. 2013 I was chatting with a friend last night about our all time favourite bikes, and mine is my '93 YZF750. It threw a con-rod chasing a BMW M5 one day and that was that. We were looking at pictures of my old bike on BikePicks.com and also found this thread from 2005. The eBay link obviously doesn't work anymore, but I saved the listing details at the time, including pictures. So for the sake of anyone who might come across this thread, or for some of the people who originally posted, and would like a trip down memory lane, here are the details (with mobile numbers removed): YZF 750 BIG BORE 843CC RACE KIT MOTOR + FLATSLIDES + TITANUIM PIPES + FZR400 3tj FRAME Hi everybody i have for sale my project which is now impossible for me to build so it has to go!! 1st piece is - A race spec yzf750 engine but has had a big bore kit fitted!!! to 843 cc!!! This gives it 25% more power than the standard unit. ( this engine gives just under 170 bhp at the rear wheel ) This engine was built from a brand new yzf750 engine and then did 500 miles to run it in on the road. It has in it Yamaha Factory Kit race cams New valves and springs Gas flowed head done by cosworth (SEE PIC) Surface discharge plugs Forged J.E. race pistons New custom bore liners (+5mm) New yamaha kit race titanium rods with titanium big end bolts (the bushes have been replaced with solid bushes) Crank lightened and balanced All internal engine cases polished/flowed to allow easier oil movement. The sump of the bike is the race one which basically is 4.5 litre instead of the standard 3 litre It also has a yamaha kit close ratio gear box in it too. Being built as a race spec engine they took off the starter and alternator as these add drag and weight to the engine but these arn't hard to get hold of. 2nd bit is Factory yamaha kit Full titanium exhaust This system was built by termigoni for yamaha racing team issue. This is specially made so it comes higher up and closer to the bike for ground clearance but comes round the side of the large sump on the motor!! it comes with an end can. This has had a slight scrape but has been repaired, it has a small plate welded over the area that was scraped ( the system that is ). The end can looks very dated though so i was going to use the titanium bits and get a new cabon tube and packing and stick a new termigoni sticker on it !! failing this it would take another can anyways. It has had a slight scrape on the joining end of it but could be took off and turned round. Its the main system that is the thing though specially shaped exhaust ports and stuff and it weighs just 1000g!!! to hold is when you realise 3rd bit is A set of 41mm flatslide carbs these come with cables. They need the bell mouths for them but they are nowt. Now people say these arn't for the road as they are too sensitive but these have been altered by some well known race tuner(can't remeber the name now) so that they don't come in with so much of a punch cos unless you were on race rubber it would have spun the back wheel up. ( your going to be doing enough of this anyway with this package as it’s a proper beast!! ) The engine cost about £8000 to build (not including the cost of the new engine) the exhaust doesn't really have a cost cos its from factory yamaha (prob something stupid like £3000 i dread to think!!) and the cabs are a £800 new or something Also going to throw in a FZR400 3tj frame swing arm with standard shock, swing arm, brand new gold chain, rear wheel, standard rear brake setup, petrol tank, Frame comes with log book on a g plate. has been altered to take the yzf engine already and powdercoated black with swingarm. I would value this little lot at about £400 at the cheapest you could find them all. There is a small dent on the left hand side of the frame but its been checked for straightness and would be fine with a blob of weld in it and a sand up as aluminium is easy to manipulate. (I have done this myself before!!) You can make your own minds up about the prices but i'm sure you'll realise that its a bargain. I won't negotiate on the price! I won't split it. It may sound like an unrealistic package but i just need the cash i'm afraid!! This would make your yzf750 a bit of a beast or finish the project off, if your interested drop me an email or give me a ring my names Fenton my mobile is [removed]. or send me an email and I’ll talk to you about whatever you want know about this. It is available to view at any time you wish just give me a bit of notice on that!! As regarding postage on this I will think that it would be a fortune so I recon that I can delivery if close enough if you pay my diesel cos but would maybe struggle to get it all in (I do have an estate but its not the tardis!! Ha ha We can meet half way if you’re a good distance away. For international postage I would have to tot up the weights and give you a price on your individual locations. Any questions send me an e-mail but I’ll prob not answer till after 6pm mon to fri as I’ll be working. If you require any extra pictures or anything please don’t hesitate to contact. I have plenty of pictures so please ask and i will take more if you arn't satisfied with what you can see. Contact to be made within 3 days of auction end and payment within 7 please. Cheque or postal order (if paying by cheque please allow time for cheques to clear) Paypal - now i will take paypal if its absolutly neccassary for you to pay me but the fees on this ammount will be collosal for me prob cost me £80 so i would much prefer a cheque please people or cash on delivery if i'm to deliver it!!
