  1. I LOVE Thailand.

Phe Phe and Koh Samui being my haunts.

Although since the Tsunami its gone really touristy - much much more than it was before so its kinda lost its appeal for me - but i havent ruled out going back again. :D

  2. I had a Caberg V2 for ages - noisy as hell.

I used earplugs but didnt like them at all either.

I now have a Shoei XR1000 Diablo Limited Edition

Lightest helmet ever and extremely quiet. It also has the pinlock visor which has NEVER steamed up yet.

OK so its a bit pricey at around £350 but i wouldn't change it for anything now

  3. When the weather is fine and the it's baking hot - *hangs head in shame* - I have been known to go out wearing trainers, shorts and a shirt...

    I KNOW, I know - I shouldn't, I know if I come off it'll be agony and I know it's a silly risk.

    *here come the excuses*

Only on bright clear sunny days,

    Only by myself,

Only "cruising speed" (more than 50mph gets too chilly anyway)

    NEVER on the motorway!

You MIGHT survive the accident if you come off - but you're more than likely gonna die from the severe injuries you will sustain - even if its just losing half your skin from severe road rash......theres more to it than just patching you up and sending you home - you will more than likely lose the limb you have scraped along the road through it becoming irrepairable or gangrenous - and if that mutha spreads you're well and truly fucked

    On the flip side -

I wear a Hi-vis vest over my jacket to and from work (commuting ain't about style - its about surviving!)

My waterproofs are Hi-vis too (if it's raining, visibility is reduced and breaking distances increase... so I want to be seen!)

I'm a BIG fan of Draggin Jeans - two jackets and lots of jeans/camo's/combats... The jackets are ace for those hot, sunny days and I now at least wear the Ultra-light whenever I go out (it's cool enough for even the hottest of days!). The jeans are my everyday trousers - which makes it a lot easier to jump on the bike at a moments notice.

Pillions MUST be wearing decent gear, Boots/Jacket/Gloves/Lid/Trousers NO heels/skirts/bare-hands - If the worst happens, pillions come off the worst! also, no speeding with a pillion.

p.s. When I had the GS - I ALWAYS wore ALL the right gear.

Apologies for length - you may flame me now...

At least you got SOME sense ;)

Just be bloody careful out there........20 minutes to gear up properly could save you 20 years of misery......

  4. Out of interest were is this shop in Matlock?

Hiya Geoff, its down one of those little arcades...if you blink, you will miss it.

No its not - they have moved to a shop up the road.

Its now in the main carpark (top left as you go through Matlock coming from Buxton way) where the tea bar is - i think theres a museum or soemthing there. You have to walk past it to get to the loos.

  5. Matlock, cracking ride out I have to say, Sunday morning, JayCee's breakfast, and a browse round the shops, ace ;)

The people running Twisted Spanner, have history....and searching for info on them, I came across this post....

Being a keen fan of Ogri (You know, the fella who's in Bike Mag, back page - past 35ish years), I'm in the know about a few inside bits and bobs....

    Now come the interesting facts....

Ogri Ltd went into recievership this year due to contract breach, and vast sums of money owed to many of the people concerned, printers, supplers and more importantly, the creator of Ogri himself.

The result of this, was people, in a similar fashion to Goff, being messed around and dissapointed by ordering goodies off the Ogri.co.uk website, to have their money "dissapear", never to be seen again.

The creator of Ogri has been happily illustrating the strip for the past 35 years, and the damage the Twisted Spanner owners have done to his, and his characters reputation, for some, is irreparable.

Browsing around the shop, I have to say, I was disgusted with the fact that these people are still selling "illegally I might add" Ogri stock....

The more people aware of these facts, "might" just stop these crooks from continuing to carry out buisness in the fashion they do, and hopefully, Ogri Ltd, may, become the proverbial Phoenix that rises up again, to inspire, and brighten up the lives of the many bikers out there who have known him for many many years!

That's not to say that Ogri is still out there, as he is, same back page of Bike, and hopefully, will be there for many years to come....its just a pain in the arse that you can't get any of the cracking merchandise that has always been out there...

Were Ogri able to pull himself out of that strip, into our reality, I'm pretty sure that the Twisted Spanner crooks would be dealt with appropriatly, but unfortuantly, the only way to stop these people from carrying on their illegal trading, and crookery is to spread the word of their antics!

    Peace!

Can you PM me with more info on this etc?

    Cheers ;)

  6. I have some very nice Caligula Wave pipes on mine.

Yeah i hear ya go "you got whaaaaaaat?"

I got these from Italy for the princely sum of 250 Euros. Ok so they aint top of the range but fook me they sound the dogs danglies and they look the biz too. You can see 'em on Elvira if you look at me profile. ;-)

  7. Please note that the Canine brand of anti-theft products have a high daily maintenance cost.

Food is required to keep your Canine operational. Introductory vouchers for Pedigree Chum are included with the product.

Walking is also neccesary to maintain the maximum capability of your Canine. Tying it's leash to the back of the bike while you blast down the A4074 is not an approved Walking technique and may invalidate your warranty.

Making A Fuss is an essential maintenance procedure. Instructions included.

For those unfamiliar with Canine products, a national directory of Obedience Classes is provided to assist you with the programming of your Canine anti-theft product.

Installation of a Canine anti-theft product may result in your motorcycle picking up a heavy, urine-like scent. It is the authentic Canine marker, similar to the holographic Datatool stickers.

    Thank-you for buying a Canine anti-theft product!!

    lol.gif CLASS!

Although My dog would turn his nose up at Pedigree Chum - he eats a raw diet - and its cheap too!

  8. Fuck the alarm - Datatool are shite anyway. I had one on my CBR400RR and it caused me no end of headaches.

get yourself one of these - aint no one gonna steal my bikes while he's here.....

  9. thanks for the info guys - i actually ended up buying a classic as it was just down the road and got a decent price for what they called a fixer upper but is fine as it is!

am just putting the shopping list together at the moment, i am glad i waited to get this 1100 before i spent anything on doing one up, the difference in grunt and braking is massive so i am really happy with the 1100 now.

have spent the last 3 weeks away from home so not had the chance to touch it really :-( but managed to get the windscreen, front toolbar roll, saddle bags and supports off so far.

next is tricky - for things like forward controls, exhaust, handle bars and especially a 5 degree raked front end i would love to see one already done to compare so that i can choose but i havent got a clue where i can get to. hopefully enough people will still venture down to the poole quay meet near me and i can get along to see if anyone with a modded one is already there

    thanks, dan

    Does this help?

Its a 650 but you get the idea - here's whats been done to it:

The neck has been raked 40 degrees and a set of 6 degree Triple T’s added. ‘Forking by Frank’ of provided the 4 inch over stock 41mm fork tubes. 60 Spoke chrome 21inch front wheel. Rear suspension lowered by repositioning the shock mount . Sits at about 4 inch ride height and seat is at about 20 inches. The custom steel rear fender is attached to custom made brackets giving it that low tyre hugging look. 18 inch 1.25 diameter Apehangers with internal electrical wiring.

Maltese Cross mirrors, turn signals and tail light on billet side mount for licence plate, all LED plus a Cobra Rocket Headlight. Hard Chrome 2.5 inch big straights exhaust system, Mapam forward controls and custom seat

Now THAT is one nice bike (cept for the apehangers - id never be able to reach them!)

  10. Well Hi to all in Yammy land.

Hello to you too and welcome to the forum.

Seems a nice place you have here, one or two idiots, but hey thats life....

Yes we do have a nice place ta very much.

As for the one or two idiots comment - depends on who you're talkin about.......... but we aint without our fair share thats for sure.....seems to be growing by the day too...........

  11. Has the fule got underneath the paint? This happened on my bike and it was caused by bad preparation around the petrol opening and the fuel got under it and bubbled my lovely new paint job. Its been repaired since, its been rubbed right down around the opening and sealed with JB Weld - and i had a stainless Steel ring made just for added protection.

Nothing is getting under that bugger. You can see on these pictures the damage - and the last one is after repair withthe ring added. :D

  12. No need to get personal.

You asked for opinions - you got them - you tore them to pieces in a rather arrogant way and have now resorted to personal insults.

If you think WD-40 is the dogs bollox for everything then go ahead and use it as you see fit.

You have been given nothing but sound advice here, if you dont agree with it - fine - you dont have to - but deliberately winding folk up will not do you any favours.- i suggest you wind your neck in and behave.

  13. Thanks to everyone for advice - haven't checked oil but will do so as well. Problem seems to be sorted. Have fiddled with cable again, leaving a little slack as suggested and managed to get to a point where it will go into gear and the bite point is in the middle. Have priced up a new cable just in case the trouble comes back but fingers crossed :)

I'm wondering if it just needs a good run?

Anyhoo, will keep you informed and no doubt will be back for more friendly help and advice :)

    Many thanks all

    Chris

Let us know how you get on. A cable shouldnt be that much money and at least, if your twiddling hasnt sorted it you can replace it and elimate that and look at somethign else if the problem persists. Good luck. :D

  14. Back to the original topis and to Mr. Knackered Avons.....

What's wrong with brand new Avons, then???!!!

I do believe he didnt say there was anything wrong with them - just had anyone a comment on a better tyre.

I run a 650 Drag on Avon Venoms quite happily.

I have ridden in pissing rain (including over the weekend), freezing weather and chucking snow, all at up to 107mph.

OK, part of this is because I am a nutter and DEMAND my bike does what she's supposed to.

107mph in those conditions and on a Dragstar 650 too eh - nutter you may be, some would say it was absolute suicide.

Screwing the balls off the bike at 107mph wont do it any favours either.

The other part is because I have excellent tyres.

Manual says Dunlop or Bridgestones, I believe....

Well, I've decked the pegs out at ninety-something without any hint of traction-loss.

I've ridden 12,000 miles on my tyres and I'm nowhere near thinking of replacing them yet!!

Nowt wrong wiv yer Venoms, mate!!

    Pretty cheap, too.

Decking the pegs out at 90 - you're determined to wreck that bike aintcha.

Tyres are personal preference though. I have Pirellis on my Bandit - great tyres - but they might be shite on the Dragstar........

  15. Thanks for the advice so far :) and the welcome Goff (Love Elvira!)

Any takers on how to adjust clutch if necessary :)

You can do it at the lever or down the bottom near the engine or both - but i think you've tried that? I would give a new cable a go before you decide the clutch is knackered.
