  1. Thanks, I'll check it out.
  2. I agree. I was just wondering which one to go with. I think I'll try the #42.5, since that is what the bike appears to be tuned to. Thanks for the input.
  3. I looked at the parts catalog, at it states that it uses #42.5 What is the difference? Does #45 make much of a difference?
  4. I pulled the pilot jets out and found that they were both completely clogged. The left pilot jet head was badly stripped and will be replaced. The service manual states that they should be #45, but these are #42.5. What difference does this make? Should I replace them both with #45?
  5. I have been attempting to get this bike running for a few weeks. It had sat for about two years. The carbs were hastily cleaned in an attempt to get it running. Unfortunately, I overlooked the gas tank. The bike will crank, but only runs for a few seconds before shutting off. After reading previous posts, I have surmised that it is from a combination of two issues. First, I need to clean the rust/crud out the gas tanks. It has an old liner in it, from the previous owner, that is starting to flake off and looks decrepit. I was thinking about using POR-15. Any other suggestions? Second, I need to completely break down the BS34 carbs and thoroughly clean them. I figured it would probably be wise to go ahead and get a rebuild kit and replace the jets while I was at it. I have tested all the electronic components, and they are functioning properly. The petcock is in good shape, and I replaced the o-rings last week. I cleaned all the electrical connections and coated them with a thin film of dielectric grease. The spark plugs are NGK D8EA and gapped according to the service manual. I have not checked whether the gas cap is venting or not, but I will address that issue when I get to the gas tank. I have not found an inline fuel filter short enough to fit between the carb and petcock. Any suggestions on what to use? Any other possible suggestions for this issue, or how to go about it are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Edit: Does anyone have a good method to clean the dull finish on the engine casing?
  6. I will certainly try that. I can't believe that I didn't think of that. Thanks
  7. Is it easier to attach the airbox joints to the carbs and then press them into the airbox? It is still giving me a hard time.
  8. I had not tried pushing the airbox completely forward. That sounds like it might work. The airbox connectors are stiff and very tricky to slide onto the carbs. I wish I had never taken the carbs out, but they were in need of rebuilding. I will try your suggestion. Thanks
  9. Has anyone else had a problem with connecting the Mikuni BS34 Carbs to the air filter box? I can't get them to connect for the life of me. I have had no problems attaching the carburetors to the cylinder side, but the two connectors on the air filter box will not connect no matter what I try. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
  10. Thanks to everyone for the replies. This forum has been most helpful.
  11. I have an 82 XS400RJ, and need a new seat. I was wondering what other models will bolt up to the SECA 400. Any help is greatly appreciated.
