Would you say it's worth fitting a steering damper to the new R6? This bike won't see a track day.
Thanks

tell me what mods you done/got in mind........if you wanna chat. first trackday (ever)end of march shittin my self already.....surely must be normal.......this bike is a beast!!!
What's the new bike like then? Had you had / been on an R6 before this one or just had the 125?
What's the ride like - every review going says the new bikes are far too firm for the road. Would you agree?

Hi im 15, Almost 16 does that mean i can go and do that track day?!
Yes Phil, you can do it on a Honda CB500. You get to use their bike, with full kit and caboodle - race leathers, lid etc etc. Full pre track briefing, 2:1 tuition on track. Followed by a handling course. Ron is usually about, sometimes Leon mucks in too. £179.

I love mine!!! Although its not a 03 model its the same shape! lol
Ive had no troubles with it and in comparison to all the other 600's of this period i think this is the best one to live with. I use mine almost everyday......including today..........and its a 80 mile round trip to work and back and when the roads are dry and the sun is out its never a long enough ride home!
Everyone i speak to say its a lot more managable and user friendly on the roads in comparison to the newer style one as this is a lot stiffer and designed more for the track.
Hope that helps!!!
Matt
Thanks Matt. On another post you say the earlier ones tend to be a bit more twitchy at the rear. Does that include the 03 or pre 2003?
Thanks

But if you aint got a full licence have been told you have to do it on CBR125's if you are under 21.
I have done a trackday at donington park and watch out for Mcclains corner (just before copice) if your front tyre aint warm enuff as i made the mistake of sliding and ending up in the gravel!!
Good fun thou! lol
Anyone over 14 can now do it on a CB500. If you're used to riding a 600 regularly then a CBR600RR is supplied. After that they'll let you on a Fireblade.

Hi i have been searching forums for a very long time now so i thought it was time to go to the best!
i am 18 and have never ridden a bike but i will soon be taking the test for my restricted licence...once i have passed i was hoping to buy a 2001 R6 and fitting a restricter kit...any advice? i have also recieved a decent insurance quote of £1200
Hi mate, sounds like a plan to me. Where did you get your quote from for £1200?
Ron Haslam runs a trackday / race school at Donnington, you can use their bikes and all their gear and pick up some one to one tuition too. Will also be helpful when it comes to road riding as it teaches you real life high speed handling techniques. Full licence not required!!

HI MATE
MAKE SURE YOU ARE PUTTING THE YZF-R6 THEY SHOULD THEN ASK YOU FOR YEAR OF BIKE WITH A DROP DOWN MENU, PUT IN YEAR OF BIKE IF IT COMES BACK WITH THE SAME AMOUNT YOU WILL BE COVERED IF IT IS THEIR MISTAKE I WOULDNT OF THOUGHT THEY COULD ASK YOU FOR MORE MONEYS AS YOU HAVE DONE WHAT THEY HAVE ASKED FOR.
IF STILL IN ANY DOUBT THERE SHOULD BE A CONTACT PHONE NUMBER FOR THEM YOU COULD ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK OVER THE PHONE AND THEN BUY ONLINE TO GET THE DISCOUNT
I DONT KNOW YOUR BACKGROUND BUT I AM INSURED THROUGH MC EDWARDS ON THE NEW SHAPE R6 ON A 06 PLATE FULLY COMP PROTECTED NO CLAIMS WITH 250 EXCESS AND I PAY £115.00 PEANUTS MATE BUT I DO HAVE FULL NO CLAIMS BONUS AND 34 YEARS OLD BUT MEGA CHEAP
YOU COULD ALWAYS USE THE CHEAP QUOTE YOU HAVE GOT TO USE AGAINST OTHER INSURERS TO SEE IF THEY CAN BEAT THAT YOU NEVER KNOW YOUR LUCK UNTIL YOU TRY
HOPE THIS HELPED
REGARDS R6DYS
AND THE NEW R6 IS AMAZING I NORMALLY CHANGE BIKES EVERY 18 MONTHS OR SO WITH THE NEW BIKES COMING OUT AND GETTING BORED WITH MY OWN BIKE BUT I HAVE HAD THIS TWO YEARS NOW AND AM NOT PLANNING ON GETTING RID OF THIS BIKE AT ALL.
Thanks that's useful, wasn't sure about phoning them as I don't want to alert them that there might be an error. I'm 25 and first bike from direct access, have ridden when younger on 125's but insurance wise it'll be my first year so approx 650 fully comp.
Slightly apprehensive with the whole powerful first bike thing but I will take it steady until I get the feel for it.
Thanks again

Assuming that you put your details in correctly and asked for the same level of cover, then you would be insured. You should also check what you are insured for, as this can mean alot of difference to the cost.
Thanks, the policy is fully comp with most things included. Just thought it very strange that there should be a huge difference between R6 compared to CBR/GSX-R/ZX etc when every other site has them at same cost.

Hi,
Thinking of getting a new (07) R6. Have been on a couple of insurance websites looking for quotes and one in particular offers the R6 at approx half the cost compared to other 600cc sports bikes.
I've checked that I've put my details in correctly god knows how many times. Personally I reckon its a mistake within the website and how it calculates the premium eg, when I put in YZF-R6, it really thinks I've said something that resembles a hairdryer.
Do you think the insurance company can make me pay the extra if at some point after I've purchased it they realise the error. Do you think there is an error or is it me? I read an old review from 2002 that said 'due to a bizarre insurance mix up I had to sell the bike', and i don't really want to be in that position.
Any ideas??
Thanks

Would you say it's worth fitting a steering damper to the new R6? This bike won't see a track day. Heard it's prone to shaking a bit.
thanks
