  1. Haha, good one.

I take it you're getting a refund then?

I managed to put them on, but they hold on to the fork with just one small bit of double sided tape, will not bother with a refund but will replace them shortly with something a bit more decent.

    cheers

    Joe

  2. I don't think they will fit, If they're the ones I'm thinking of they're made for hollow spindles...

despite the sellers promises that they will fit the xvs650.

thanks mate I think they are the one, I wrote to Highway hawk and they promptly responded they said you need to glue them on, what a joke.....

    thanks for replying.

  3. Sorry Joe, just wipe them with a rag soaked in WD40. Anything else such as metal polish or heaven forbid wire wool that will make them shiny but are all abrasive and will soon have the plated surface removed, riding in winter will also remove the plated surface due to salt on the roads, its an irreversible process if you let it happen! if youre going to ride in winter, this is the damage you can expect, all you can do is try to slow it down with regular cleaning.

Did not cross my mind to clean with WD40 will try that, so far I have only touched them with a dry cloth nothing else but some friends told me to use wire wool which sounded wrong to me ( thanks god) we don't really have road Salt issues here in Malta, nor do I ride in wet weather ( just to keep the bike clean) again it does not rain as much here, but still the spokes get so dirty and they still loose the plated surface as I have seen on other bikes.

Will give it a shot with WD40 this evening.

    cheers

  4. You can get rid of most of the vibrations by syncing the carbs. Make sure you turn the idle up to about 4k RPM when you do synch them that way the bike will be nice and smooth at cruising speeds. If you're not sure how there's a ton of info on the forums at http://650ccnd.com/perf.htm

I built my own carb sync tool from the local hardware store for less than 5 usd. Just make sure you use something like 2 stroke oil so if it gets sucked into the carb you'll be ok.

(best way to get oil into tube.. get 12-15 feet of tubing, stick one end in the oil and suck on the other end till the tube is about 1/4th of the way filled with oil.. then pull it out of the oil keeping that end up suck on the tube till you center your oil on your measuring stick... )

This helps like you wouldn't believe

In addition you can also get aftermarket grips for your bike. I noticed that as soon as I did that my hands stopped feeling like they were asleep after long rides (from the vibrations).

thanks saw it read it but too complicated for me, I guess my mechanic who charged through my nose will have to sort out, albeit i did increase the idle rev a bit and it feels much better.

  5. Hmm this is a complicated question, as I dont really know what Im asking! Basically, when Ive been riding for a while, my arms start to ache from the stretch to the handle bars- this is made considerably worse by windy conditions, and the fact my arms are quite short ( as the rest of me is). SO.. was wondering if you can get any different kind of bars that come up higher and further back than the stock ones that come on the dragstar 650 (classic). I know a screen would help the wind, but the "reach" is still a little too much, i sit as far forward on the seat as i can and im as stretched out in everyway as i possibly can be. Do they do different heights in bars? or ones that come further back?

    Thanks in advance

    Ever confused

    Sarah

you can get pull back risers for any size in fact I need a 1inch riser and 1inch pullback eventually, suggest you measure cables etc before you decide in case you don't get enough pullback. There are also various sized bars but I still think you would need risers.

  6. Apparently the V & H baffles are a ballache to refit - but dont take my word for it as its only what i heard.

I dont put the baffles in mine at all. If you think yours are loud now then i would leave the baffles alone - but compared to mine in their current state yours are whisper quiet! Depends on whether you want them loud.

I dont use ear plugs because there is no need - i kinda got used to it now, and to be honest its the vibration that does me head in more than the noise  Long journeys dont bother me one bit as once you hit 70 the noise becomes a lot quieter so its not really noticeable.

But seriously - if you think yours are too loud at the mo - leave them alone.

i did some good riding over the weekend, they are bloody loud, ye did find the baffles, I am not touching unless someone tells me how to put in something better to quiet them down, according to my OH I have f....up the bike hehe Performace wise I am not happy either after rejetting and putting on the HC the bike seems faster on acceleration but have to shift more frequent, doesn't feel like a cruiser anymore......and yes the vibration is another killer although now at least I am not feeling the terrible vibration on reaching 100k ( kilometers) now it is vibrating all along heheh

    Cheers

  7. my vance and hines camewith no baffles just straight through and sound loud enough to annoy the neighbours. you can buy baffles seperate that just screw in the end of the pipes but not worth it.

Ok silly question coming up how can I tell if my brand new V&H cruzers have baffles or not ? they are bloody loud...

  8. I was gonna say something impolite, like 'bollocks', but I've recently been accused of extreme rudeness. So, I'll instead simply say that I disagree in the friendliest possible terms.

You can use hosepipes and even the local self-service jetwash (some Tescos have 'em). All our local dealers (including the branded ones like Honda, Yamaha and Triumph) hose their bikes off.

You do have to be careful around the seals and keep it on a low power setting, but they're fine to use.

However, don't try and power-blast every bit of muck off.

Use something like Muc Off. Scrub any large bits of crap, then spray down with COLD water.

DO NOT use hot water as it can help dissolve the salt and it will have an even easier job of getting into and rotting away your internals.

Dry the bike (or leave it in teh sun if it's a warm day), polish up any chrome with Autosol or similar, then coat it with ACF 50 (keep it away from the brakes).

Whenever you go for a blast, particularly in winter, hose the bike off and re-coat with ACF before putting it away, to help keep the salty badness at bay.

    NO.

Dozy fecking cow.... What's she doing even near my bike in the first place?

I have been strongly advised not to use Autosol but something lighter and les abrasive..........starting from the yammi dealer to my mates........

  9. Can anyone tell me the difference between Vance & Hines "Cruzers" exhaust and "Straightshots"?

I'm looking for some pipes that will give me the really powerful sound but not "too" loud - I'm about to get a Dragstar 650 Classic. Any other recommendations?

    Thanks.

I have just installed teh Cruzers, a bit too loud for my liking but I believe the Straighshots are louder, they have a fantastic rumble on idle but as intimated I wanted something less noisy :( I think the best bet if at all possible is to listen to one that is already installed, it is only then that you know if it's the right level for your taste.

  10. Ok here goes my update……

V&H Cruzers installed, together with Kuryakyn HC,

As advised by MagEurope who are the European distributors and also some correspondence with Cruiser Ecosse I opted for the 31501 model as they recommended which is listed as 49 states up to 2004 models, regrettable the bracket does not fit and my installer had to manufacture a completely new bracket. In short the 31505 is the correct model for the 2007 Classic.

Pipes went in well not so happy with the hose clamps that tie in the heat shields as the bolts show from the bottom, pipes look ok but nothing compared to the originals. Now I need to solve the output which is just under my saddle bags :(

    Now for performance.

The bark is loud much louder than expected, but has a deep rumble and on idle the sound is fantastic, Performance wise, seems the bike is faster but feels to have lost torque, not sure as I still need to do a good run and also test 2 up, the HC looks good but does rattle a bit, anyway overall great sound, good looking pipes but if I had to turn the clock back I would leave the originals on nor would I re-jet……

That is my two pennies worth of update.

    Cheers

    Joe

  11. I have had my dragstar for a year and have nearly run over a man who did not hear me coming down the street and the other week got slammed by white van man who did not look in his mirror as i was overtaking him.

I have been told that load pipes save lives so have started looking, and what a choice.

The thing is i dont want to mess about too much with re-jetting if i can help it and also dont want to fall out with my the people who live next door with excessive load pipes.

All i want is that nice deep rumble and maybe a bit more poke - Can any one give me views on whats good/bad? such as any problems with performance "popping" or trouble getting through the MOT etc?

My local agent sells Highway Hawk but also sells Vance & Hines. I have been recomended Jardine and silvertail Ko2 but had not had the chance to meet others with the same bike

    Any one got any advice?

I have the V&H Cruzers but still in the box, but rejetting is recommended, I have heard the Highway hawk not too loud but I promised myself no more HW products as they rust and/or pit too quickly. The ones I saw were already blueing afer one year

  12. I am moving to San Diego and deiced to sell my truck and rely solely on my vstar for transportation. I definitely need saddle bags and I like these:

    normal_101_0090.jpg

Where can I get those and what are they called?

Also does anyone know anything about this windshield?

    P1010021.JPG

    I appreciate the help!

Jeff, i had crossed the site which was in the US but cannot remember however you can find info at this forum

http://forums.delphiforums.com look up saddle bags if I recall correctly they made of fibreglass and they sell them un-sprayed or a choice of two colours.

  13. Nice one cili, you'll never look back now, sure is a great past time eh. BTW do the Ninjaj and R1 wait for the rest of you at every junction? :P

Nope they ride at the back, but sometimes they do get bored and give it one hell of a drag then they wait for us at the next corner hehe......it's rather difficult to pick up some speed here in Malta the Max I ever saw was 140Kph and only for a few minutes if not seconds....still I thoroghly enjoy my riding...........

  14. btw if you are a returning biker (70/80s) I am a complete newbie my first ever bike at the age of 46, It all happened March last year when I went to a birthday party and the host showed me his Shadow 750, I sat on it pretended to ride and told him OK I am getting a bike, took me 3 months to get the license and 2 months waiting for the bike to arrive hehe now I have around 3,000KM under my belt but I guess still reckoned as a novice......I ride with 3 Shadows, 2 Ninja's 1 R1, 1 Roadstar and 1 fatboy and I simply cannot hear my bike when riding with them :)

  15. My plan is to replace them the day the warranty expires! I have been advised by two different sources that re-jetting is not necessary but I will follow that up nearer the time. I agree that having more volume makes cars more aware, and a friend was knocked off when a car driver said he wasnt aware he was there, since when he always has loud pipes.

I ride often in a group of six, one Bonneville, one Fazer, one Daytona (I think!), one Harley, one 250 Dragstar (hubbie's), and my 650 Dragstar. The Harley is the bike that cars seem to move over for! You always know where he is when riding together. And his pipes aren't the loudest I have heard on a Harley.

It was quite funny that a work colleague said she saw and heard me go roaring past her house the other evening so maybe the bike sounds louder than I think. She knew it was me as I have a quite unusual pink bike jacket and a champagne coloured bike, which you dont see too many of, round here at least!

I would like to know how you get on with the replacement though. Goff tells me it is quite simple and I am sure she knows what she is talking about. Me...... I am very unknowledgeable and don't mind admitting it. What year is your bike?

    Take it easy.

No I will put them on the minute they arrive, but it will be a mechanic for me as I am not comfortable playing with pipes, although they do seem to be a simple fit. rejetting is not really my choice but everywhere I read seems to indicate the best thing to do with such pipes. My wife also says she can hear me turning round the corner coming back home but I still think they are not loud, albeit, the bike does seem to be getting a bit louder by time. Cruizercustomising have shipped but I am sure it will take at least 4 more weeks to arrive....will keep you posted.

    cheers
