  1. Why is everyone assuming it wouldn't be fun to ride? The size of the "body" (very appropriate in this case) makes virtually no difference to the handling of an outfit. Everything depends on the position of the wheels and their angles relative to each other.

And if you've never ridden with a sidecar, you've missed one of the great motorcycling experiences!

I agree....Heres a pic of my mates GPZ1100(Ok its a kwak, but this has the same leading links at the front, this enables the combination to handle very well. Ive been in it a few times, woke up once going down the M62 at 125mph. He has been clocked over the mountain road in the Isle of man by the police doing 153mph....

Its all in the set up, from the size of the wheels, car wheels in this case, to the setting up of the bars, high risers, and that amazingly created front end and also down to the rider. Two years ago we went to a Santa toy run in Irlam, he was infront of me and set off from a set of lights sideways!!! It has been entered into quite a few competitions and has won.

Some of you may recognise the very top part of the front fairing.....anybody guess?

  2. I've just done a little experiment. I've been using Super Unleaded to see if:

    a. I could tell the difference under normal conditions.

    b. There was an improvement in fuel economy.

My normal ride is a daily commute of 16 miles cross country on B roads followed by 10 miles on the motorway and the last mile or so in city traffic. Speeds are progressive but sensible. Overall, as I know the route well it is as repeatable as you will get in the real world.

Having purged the tank of normal unleaded by refilling 3 times with super I then brimmed the tank and concentrated on how the bike felt running 99 RON unleaded instead of the normal 95 RON stuff I had been using. Conclusion - absolutely no difference. At the pumps - absolutely no difference, just over 58 to the gallon on normal and just over 58 to the gallon on super.

Ultimate conclusion - for my bike, on my normal route with my riding style super provides no noticeable gain in smoothness or performance and no improvement in economy and is not worth the extra money.

By the way - on the last tank of normal unleaded I bottled out and filled up after 223.5 miles with still half a gallon left in the tank!

Interesting conclusion, I get 110 miles before my light comes on when riden normal from 95RON. On 98 RON I get 130 miles before the light. This is using a bored out ZZR1100 to 1260 cc with a few engine upgrades and the usual straight through end can with a 19 Litre tank. If I put a standard can on, I get 100 miles on 95 Ron and only 120 miles on 98 Ron. Im not too bothered about my MPG, I just fill to the brim and go, but its an interesting thing to look at.

My mates Standard zzr1200 used a full tank of petrol in 15 minutes, well he was going 160mph+ for most of that time....

  3. In all the miles (300,000) I have ridden in the last 2.5 years, Ive seen lots of stupid driving, parking and general chaos.

Heres just a peek at what Ive seen in regards to parking.....

Firstly..A professional, ahem parks his instructors car on a junction and in a bus stop on a yellow line...

    :cussing::rant:

From my first postin this thread....

Just checked this guys training car out as I saw it again yesterday around Blackburn, HE IS NOT INSURED AT ALL!!! Stay clear of it.....

  4. Was up in the Lake District today, 3 up (My other half and Georgie the dog and me), saw loads of bikes around, if you did see us and gave a wave or nod, excellent!!!

Anyway we had fun, weather held out for us too, maybe see you up there sometime. Usually park at the marina next to the Pump House when up that way.

  5. I went out for my first long ride since passing my CBT and getting my bike today and all was going well Till a chuffing white van driver was up my bum so being on a 125 i couldnt leave him so i let him go past and about 300 yards down the road I got skimmed by a empty bottel of coke a cola i think it was the frigin idiot. I saw his arm out the window and the Barsteward threw it out. I couldnt belive it as he knew i was there as he had only just overtaken me. I dread to think what could of happened if it would of hit me. I was doing 50 mph when that bottel whisked by my head.

I just wish I had taken his licence number down but guess the police would do nothing anyway.

Has anyone else had this happen to them.

Lots of times, had a brake shoe thrown at me, coke cans, bottles, nappies (dirty bastards), plastic off car bumpers (well these where just coming off the cars as they where going down the road) and a handfull of what I believe was kaylie (sherbert) .....its not the first and cetainly wont be the last...

  6. Ah.... Let me rephrase;

I often twitch the throttle and nudge the bike ahead a few feet, so I'm in front of the car where they can clearly see me, rather than off their back corner and invisible!!

Even if they don't look before they change lanes, in the latter position they'll not hit me.

The word 'blast' is relative - At motorway speeds on my 40BHP Cruiser, this takes a few seconds, rather than the Hayabusa 0.3 seconds it might actually imply :D

And yes, the idea of moving ahead or backward on multi-lane roads to avoid being caught in a blind spot was taught to me on DAS.

    I still think that

    a: undertaking is illegal

b: unless u can use your mental powers to keep a car or van or whatever it is ur undertaking in the same lane, you should avoid going up the left side...mind that 89 year old who didnt see you because they didnt bother to look at you gesturing to them..

c: if you come up on vehicles from behind with your lights on, a mere flash or touch of brakes to make your light dip up and down will ensure they see you...and if they havnt then you be patient and sit behind ...untill they notice and either get thier foot down or move over.

d: people will expect you to overtake on the right, ive even overtaken on the *shudder* white rumble strip in the outside lane, because id rather ride there than get a tosser trying to kill me in-between 2 cars.

  7. well today i got my first parking ticket not to bad as i am 61 years of age and been a biker since i was 16, but as i am now disabled and am lucky to get my road tax free under the disability scheme the traffic warden was a prat he said i should have displayed my blue badge even though my council dont issue them to motorcycles as they would get stolen and used by other motorists, as he is employed by the council i went to them to ask the score and got the replie well you didnt display your badge to which i replied well where would you suggest i display it she said you should display it on your dashboard well i cant find my dash board anywhere so it cost me £35 even though it says on my tax disc disabled is it me or what

What a feck up that is, that has to be a first, Id take it further, see a more senior member of the council. I park on pavements and alsorts, including pedestrian areas in town, never before has that happened. Money grabbing so and sos!!!

Good luck with an appeal if you go that way. You should win.

  8. Same reason I bought mine!!

Well, that, the fit and the price, TBH.

Reasonable lids. Kinda noisy sometimes, but nice. I have the old 104-V2 model.

    Apparently the flips are noisier...

Noisy??? They are deafening...did 70,000 miles in one....wont touch it again!!! Had to wear ear plugs, even with a standard can on. Wind noise is terrible when you do 500-800 miles a day. But apart from that, the visor is good and the flip is usefull.

  9. No its not - they have moved to a shop up the road.

Its now in the main carpark (top left as you go through Matlock coming from Buxton way) where the tea bar is - i think theres a museum or soemthing there. You have to walk past it to get to the loos.

Sorry, stand corrected, those shifty bastards! Thinking if they move, nobody will know who they are.....I must have walked right past it,was down there on wednesday...

  10. make sure you've got decent tyres and be smooth with your throttle. When breaking don't just grab a handfull be progressive. Keep slightly more distant from the car in front when at speed, watch out for damp patches on an otherwise dry road, they can catch you out.

And keep relexed, don't tense up because your worried about the condition or you're more likely to make a misake.

I agree, also take your bends slightly differently, dont be leaning over too much, dont get me wrong, thier is plenty of grip on the surface, but if your lean angle is too much in the wet, you will slide, take a more straight approach. Try to be comfortable in your clothes, dont be cold!! Good gloves, boots, winter jacket and pants are needed if you are really wanting to be out in it...its quite tranquill when your out in the snow up a moor somewhere.....

  11. What makes you say that? He's got a crash frame on it... Practicing all day... Stanchion went...CRACK

I agree with you, Ive a fork here with a broken stanchion from a bike that I practised with.....

The crash frame tells all, plus no screen, its a practise bike....

  12. Hello peeps, Its short notice, but for anybody who lives near Rochdale/Manchester/Blackburn and Burnley areas, The Whitworth Warriors are holding there second annual Bike show tommorow ( Sunday) in Whitworth, You shouldnt be able to miss it as Whitworth is small and thier will be a few bikes around. 13. If you really want to carry a laptop on a bike, I think a top box is the most secure method available. Make sure you have the PC suitably wrapped up, mind; you don't want to damage it in transit.

Whilst it's not cheap, the Givi system for hard luggage means that if you change your bike, you can retain the top box and just replace the rack because all top boxes and panniers fit using a common, modular connection system.

I wouldn't worry about the height issue, unless you intend mounting the bike à la cowboy films, i.e. leapfrogging onto the bike from behind. My other half is 5' 2" and can get on my TDM (which is considerably taller than a YBR 125) with not much effort and the top box fitted. Go into a bike showroom and ask if they have any bikes with top boxes on for you to try to get on.

Another alternative is a tank bag. However, I'm not sure you'd get one that a would easily contain a laptop. My Oxford humpback tankbag expands a lot but I've not tried getting a laptop in it. Oxford also makes another tank bag that may fit the bill.

    Anythings possible...

  14. hell no, i love this place, i got it becuase it was a freind of mines and he is giving me a good deal on it.

i am only a student at the moment remember, but yamaha is my choice of bike so i will be buying a r6 next year once my insurance goes down abit !

i rode it home, it was in the town next to me and the only way to get it home, wont be going back out until its proper legal.

    Uninsured.....Sort it out!!! Bad boy.....

  15. Right iv given up with trying to fix it! I want rid of it now!

Whats the best way of getting rid of it?

Be vary wary of pulling wires...most alarms are integral to the wiring loom, even if you do remove it, you would probably leave your machine in a worse state. Maybe you should contact Datatool themselves, im sure your problem is nothing they havnt heard before.
