  1. Ok so now I've got my xv125 virago working it's time to start chaging everything, I'm starting with handlebars Im getting these And have seen some point ended grips , Now for the silly question, The bars are 7/8 which fit my bike, do I need 7/8 grips or do they need to be 1 inch . Sorry of this is obvious, it sounds it but just like to check, also are grips just grips amd they will fit my throttle cable
  2. Quick question, what's the easiest way to clean the engine block, specifically in thr fins, seems to be a yukky deposit building up,
  3. Wow so after a couple of days of no issues I have yet another one with my Xv125 , When riding I turn the headlights on and it's faint, like almost candlelight and doesn't light up the road at all, but high beam works well, both indicators work fine, Is this just the bulb blown as I believe it's duel filiment , or something else ,
  4. I have news, and it's good, I drained the carb float bowl and gave it a few light ish taps and and refilled and then started and it worked then didn't, after a lot of looking around I found one wire between tci and coil was slightly broke so only worked some of the time, that's been replaced and now have constant spark and fuel entering re cylinder , thank you so much for all your help I've learnt a lot about my bike. Solved
  5. Yea I knew it was fuel after what u said, my point was is thr carb cleaner sposed to pour straight out inlet or should it dissappear and go through carb to cylinder, as it seemed carb didn't let it in
  6. Ok sprayed carb cleaner directly into the inlet from pump and it all just seemed to pour back out, managed to start it bit barely and idled/spluttered for about 20 seconds before dying and now nothing again,
  7. Update and a good one, Tried easy start (turns out the carb cleaner I has isn't an easy start substitute) It fires up and idles , but still seems laboured ans when I put in gear and go to pull away it dies, also if I put the choke on , More concerning, when idling it seeps wot I would call too much fuel from pump to carb cable to the point it's dripping down on cylinder
  8. Yep throttle handle snaps back nice as does the other carb end of the cable om that wheel . I checked float level on carb and assuming I done it right seems ok, can't undo the float bowl screws at mo as they seized so put some wd40 on and will try again later, checked fuel pump and that definitely spits fuel when cranking. Only thing I can think from everything I have read is block jets but why wouldn't it start with fuel directly in the cylinder , unless of course I added too much/little
  9. Ok I've tried putting petrol in cylinder and cranked and no joy , and even tested spark and was bright blue, seems crazy as was running absolutely fine until my throttle cable snapped and now it's a non starter
  10. Plugs were bone dry and no smell of petrol at all,
  11. After cranking and hearing fut fut noise this is straight after, both are the same, Any tip on how to ans how much fuel into spark plug hole, Also thr hose going from hexagonal pump to rhe carb is seeping at the pump end. also tried the drain screw on carb and a bit of fuel came out but I guess that coulda still been there from before it stopped working
  12. Both plugs were sparking nice and blue when resting on the engine fins , I'm 99% sure the coils are going to correct cylinder, I've had a look and can't see any obvious pinched hoses, but plugs come out as I say spotless, I've even cranked with petcock on prime for a few seconds and nothing happens too
  13. Would it still be the pickup coil issue as I have blue sparks ok both , Also when my no spark issue started I had one wet and one black sooty plug when I pulled them now when I crank it it turns and obviously there was a spark outside the engine when testing but they come out and still look brand new which I guess would indicate no fuel. Just wanna say thanks again for all your help,
  14. Ok so I plugged and plumbed everything back together, and now I have what appears to be a nice blue spark in both plugs, which I'd great but when cranking it won't fire up just turns and makes a fut fut noise still, which I assume is pump putting fuel into cylinder. Is this because I need to wait a few seconds for fuel to reach as I disconnected the fuel tank and probably drained a bit of fuel from the line, or any other magic things u should have done
  15. Well I was gonna hardwire the 3 white from stator to spade terminals attached to RR, also is the pickup coil ok as didn't get a continuous reading just jumped and went back to 1 tho maybe due to not much contact. And still don't understand how that would cause no spark
  16. OK checked stator 3 white wires tested at 200 ohms A to B 0.6 A to C 0.6 B to C 0.6 All 3 wires to earth didn't register a reading at all, all 3 wires stayed at 1 , ( used engine fins as a ground) Checked the red/white to green/white and it jumped to about 194 then back to 1 on the multimeter Also noticed the red/white and green/white are only wires going into one plug to tci, took a pic And orange, red ,white and black from other plug
  17. Spade terminals to the RR and the plug that attaches to the wires from stator plug under seat The wire group with yellow tape at end is from the pickup coil and other component attached to stator and has 2 blue wires and a green wire but go into the red/white and green/white to tci
  18. And if the RR has gone how would that cause no spark
  19. Already done this, posted results a bit further up (12:45 on Tuesday), though if specs are the same as the article then my RR is well and truly gone .
  20. Awesome I will check those ans upload some pics at first available opportunity , also do I need the battery connected to conduct these tests as it's currently sat on my side charging?
  21. Cheers for those links , though I'm leaning more towards stator issues as the main issue was no spark so the white wires melting between RR and thr stator shouldn't have caused that presumably, can't check some things as cant start the engine so have no idea how to test stator output, also instead of replacing wires and plug can't I just attach female spade terminals to rhe end of stator white wires and plug staright into RR male spades
  22. Update on this , I've discovered the 3 white wires going to the regulator from the plug that connects to the stator wires was melted and corroded, unsure as to what component has failed or if it's just old wiring, but I'm struggling to find out the correct wire I need so gonna bypass the plug and connect the 3 white wires from stator straight to regulator via the spade terminals , and see what happens, I've also tried getting a reading from the other 2 wires from stator leads, and so far got nothing, I know this is to do with ignition but not sure I was testing it right with the multimeter. or I was and the 2 coils next to stator are the issue ,
  23. Also I tested the 3 white wired coming out of the RR, on positive and negative, and of 6 test on 3 wires most were about 603 but 2 were about 592 ish, is this close enough or is this an indication of a knackered RR also Thanks in advance, I'm new to taking bikes apart and fault finding,
  24. Ok I've tried testing the stator with a multimeter from the wires at the plug and can't seem to get any reason at all putting blacl probe on ground wire and touching other 3 white wired and thr other wires , nothing at all.
