  1. sorry yeah I was filling it up with oil n when I filled it up, the level has went above the max line on the wee oil viewer
  2. .when I put my bike into 1st it starts moving forward, even with my clutch fully held in I'm having to hold the brakes to stop going, n its murder getting it back into neutral. Is this something I can fix myself? Or would I be best taking it back to a mechanic?
  3. I've bought steel wool, permatex and afc50. I've been cleaning it every Saturday with muck off shit n spraying it with muck off protect spray but guess with the salt etc it just wasn't enough. I've also bought a better cover. For a first bike this thing has cost me a fortune.
  4. since I've been riding it I've cleaned it every week, and oiled my chain every week. How can I try and maintain it a bit better, this is my first bike so I dont wanna wreck it after a few months.
  5. I got my bike 2 months ago and its been given me jip for a wee while, so I got someone to take my bike apart and he's noticed my brakes are rotten n fucked and my chain is far too loose. I'm considering going to the garage that sold me the bike because they appaz done a full and service check of the bike before I bought it, so I was wondering if this much damage could be done in such a short space of time. Just thought id check before raising hell and making a clown of myself.
  6. oil is fine, air filter is clean, bike isn't even starting now. Had to phone a mechanic to come look at it cause I haven't go a clue. Bloody raging
  7. I'm working until 830 but as soon as I finish ill make my way to where I abandoned my bike n try all the suggestions, I have downloaded the manual, and I've got step by step instructions bookmarked for most of the checks. I never realised when I bought a bike I was gonna have to learn so much mechanical shit, bloody crazy, but suppose you gotta take the bad with the good eh
  8. a mechanic checked my bike over just before Xmas. OR at least he said he did, and I paid him for it so I'm assuming all was good.
  9. I got my bike roughly 2 months ago and have done over 2k miles already, when I got it it only had 8000miles on the clock. Yesterday on my way home from work when I dropped from 3rd gear to 2nd(I was at traffic lights) I heard a clunk, this happened again at the next set of lights. I didn't think anything of this. But today I got caught at lights after travelling 22 miles and when I was sitting waiting for the lights to change (in 1st gear) the bike kept cutting out. I got it idling after a minute or two but when I pull away it stutters and then high revs appear from nowhere. It done this twice more at traffic lights but its finally gave up the ghost and when I try to idle the bike in neutral or first it just cuts out. Its full of petrol but other than that I'm shit out of ideas. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  10. I have got it working, just drove from Glasgow city centre to gourock, roughly 22 miles, It still feels like it leans to the right, but the forks look straight. I have a bike mechanic guy having a look on the 31st, so ill see what he says and report back with a cost and see if I'm being ripped. What big game man??
  11. thanks guys, I know a mechanic that wont rip me that's coming out on Thurs to give it a check, ill let you know how I got on and how much he's gonna charge to fix whatever is wrong
  12. yeah I regretted it as soon as I started riding my bike and I felt all my aches creeping in, but it was a lesson learned and ill never ever let someone drive away ever again. I went to check on my bike this morning and it started no problem and I drove it 4 miles with not a problem, now I'm left with a dilemma whether to take it to a mechanic who can give the whole thing a once over just in case theres summit wrong and leaving it longer could make it worse or just riding it and hoping I dont break down again
  13. hey everyone. Stevie here from Glasgow. First time driver of anything and for my first mode of transport I got a xvs 125 dragstar and I bloody love it. I Cant wait until I get my full license now and get more bikes.
  14. cheers man, ill give that a bash and see if it sheds light on my steering issues. legend man, I'm gonna go pick ma bike up today n ill give the fuel cap a loosen and see how i get on. Thanks man
  15. I done my cbt 6 weeks ago and have been driving about on my yamaha xvs dragstar 125 ever since, without any problems whatsoever....until....the 23rd of December, an old lady decided that she was going to pull out right in front of me on a 40mph road. I was only going 35ish mph as I planned on turning at the next corner at the end of the road so had already started slowing down, but at 35 mph I still gave her car a good whack. As I picked myself up off the ground and checked my bike over I couldn't see any problems. The old lady wad hysterically crying and faffing about on the road, I spent a good 10 minutes calming her down but eventually she started doing ma head in so I just told her I was fine, my bike was fine, she should just go and get her car fixed, the most important thing was none of us got hurt. As she careered away at a hasty pace I started to realise how daft and premature I maybe was by ordering her off, but at the time with my adrenalin pumping and her crying on the road I thought fuc£ it. Fast forward 4 days and I've had nothing but problems with my bike. When I drive it feels like its driving squinty also this morning it keeps cutting out every 1/4 ish mile and I have to pull over, wait 10 minutes and then drive another 1/4 mile before it then cuts out again. Things like scratches and bumps I know I can just order new parts for but does anyone have any ideas why it would keep cutting out or why it feels like it drives squinty?? My mechanical knowledge is absolute zero, but I'm a fairly handy guy so whatever the problem is if I knew what was wrong I could probs give it a good bash at fixing it but because this is my first bike I'm a complete novice.
