  1. Should the headlight come on without the engine needing to be on? Just with the ignition on. Only aware of one fuse from the battery live. Not sure there is any others. Will have a look for loose connections in the morning.
  2. 6V 35W bulbs. As should be according to Haynes Manual. Hmmm.
  3. Not sure how old it is, only got the bike recently. Looks fairly new, not sure if it's original. It's a Dynavolt if that helps?
  4. ONE FINAL PROBLEM - HOPEFULLY My headlight won't come on when ticking over, it only comes on when I give it loads of revs, after that it stays on when ticking over. It changes brightness a lot too. Would this make the bike fail it's MOT? The battery is charged as it gives out 6.23V or somewhere very close. Could the magneto be screwed? If so, is there a viable fix for these, I should imagine buying them is expensive.
  5. Haha cheeky ****! Thanks, read up about it and it just seems odd to me! Cheers guys
  6. That seems odd, surely the oil light shouldn't be affected by what gear I'm in. What if you are in neutral and the oil light is supposed to be warning you, you wouldn't be able to tell...
  7. Tested everything, the bulb socket and switch all work correctly. I traced the fault to the wire being broken. If I use a floating wire on the bulb and switch it all works well! One last question, the oil indicator lamp comes in when in neutral. Should this happen? If not then there is a short between both neutral bulb and oil bulb negative wires.
  8. Yeah the bulb works. The only problem with soldering my own wires is tracking them back to where they came from. Do you know where the light is connected to on the bike? Couldn't find it on the diagram, my bike is a slightly different model to the wiring diagrams in the book. I wish I could test another socket on the neutral wires to see wether the problem is the socket or the wiring. Thanks
  9. Sorry to revive this old post, Just updating. Voltage regulator swapped and working. Just bought a new bulb for the neutral light, it won't come on still. The bulb works as I put it in the indicator flasher and it works. Could this be the socket broken? Cheers
  10. Yeah, thanks! Yambits seems like a good site. Already started polishing it! Might be too soon for that haha. Cheers
  11. Yes, I did. The battery isn't 'konked' though, it's working and charged.
  12. Thanks for all the help guys. Could this be caused by another fault or is it just the voltage rec just knackered and burned out? Cheers
  13. http://imgur.com/UGB3s2t http://imgur.com/0UtrlI5 Close up - Looks like a voltage rec I take back what I said!
  14. http://imgur.com/LfaT4zp http://imgur.com/kuXUJ3Q Here are two pictures. Looks as if it is connected to the tank. Have taken the tank off and it is connected to the frame. Will upload another photo.
  15. It's just a terminal, doesn't look like a rectifier to me. Rectifier is like a black box right? Battery is charged, kicks out 6V.
  16. So I put the fuse in last night, electrics working well when not running. Start her up this morning and a smell a VERY strong plastic burning smell. Under the tank on the left side, a terminal was melting plastic. The terminal has 2 red wires and 1 white going into it. The terminal is clipped onto two pipes, leading to the engine casing and the oil tank, just breather pipes. Any help much appreciated.
  17. Will go to the local car parts shop and buy a fuse tomorrow, will test it out and report back on what happens, might help solve someone else's problem, you never know.
  18. Don't have access to a voltmeter at the minute, the battery seems to produce voltage though as the lights and bits work at higher revs. The electrolyte level is between the two markers on the left hand section, full on the middle and at the low line on the right side. Is the fuse in the little white ccontainer in the positive line? Just checking that now. An update. Just looked at the fuse, upon visual inspection it seems broken. Does this explain the electrics working at high revs though? Do they not use the battery when running?
  19. Hi, My DT 125 MX has a strange problem. The electrics, indicators, horn and brake lights only work when the bike is being revved quite high. This seems like the battery is not charged, or might be knackered. The only thing is, the headlight works whilst at tickover... It gets slightly brighter when revved but unlike the horn and other lights, doesn't die on tickover. Sound like a battery problem or a bigger fault? Thanks in advance
  20. Okay thanks. I know that 14hp is the limit for me at the minute. It's nice to see the history like that - might show that to my Dad that later haha. Just looking for a second opinion or knowledge on what HP the DT will kick out, just to be 100%.
  21. Thanks, just what I was looking for! As long as you are 100% sure that is! Don't want to risk riding her if not! Won't the fact it's imported make a difference? Yeah, first 2 stroke Ive owned, can't wait to get on the road! What date did restrictions come into force then? Just out of interest. Thanks Again
  22. Hi, Have just bought a DT 125 MX and was wondering if these bikes were ever restricted. Reason being, I need the bike to be 14hp or under for me to be able to ride it. I was told by the seller it was an unrestricted one, I didn't think these bikes were restricted however. Any help would be great! This bike was imported. If the bike is over 14hp, is there any way TO restrict it so I can ride it on the roads? Bike - DT 125 MX 83' Mk 1 2 Stroke Imported from America Thanks All
