Scotia, I just bought a 96 Virago 750 with just 3241 miles on her. I too wanted a 1100 Virago, but couldn't find one in very good condition. When I found this 96 I snapped it up. Turns out I'm glad I got the 750. Plenty of power for my style riding. I'm just 5'10" so the 750 fits me perfect. Pulls the wife & I like we're not there. The 1100 may have a little more room for a taller guy, but otherwise the 750 is great. I had an 86 700 Virago, but wanted something newer. Don't get an 80's model as they had starter issues which I've dealt with a lot. I also used to have an 82 Virago 750. The 82 & 86 both gave me starter drive problems. The later models have smooth starting.
  2. Have an 86XV700, but a month ago bought a 96 Virago 750 with only 3241 miles on her. Gonna sell the 700. Just wondering if there is anything to keep an eye on with the 96? She is just like new & performs just like new also. The handlebar position is way more comfortable than the older 700. If there are any quirks I should watch out for, please let me know.----Thanks---Daniel
  3. A bit over a year ago my XV700's ignitor box failed. It went to only rear cylinder firing. The front coil had some spark, but too weak to fire cylinder, and spark dissapeared at any throttle above idle. I bought another used one & she then ran fine. Now she did the same thing again over the weekend. Limped home on one cylinder. Lucky I was only 30 miles from home. Wondering if this was/is a problem with these models?? I'm looking at new ignitor box, but wanted to make sure there isn't anything else that could lead to the ignitor failure. I love the Virago line. My plan is to repair this one, sell it, then get a later model Virago 1100. But I want this one going in the meantime. Thanks in advance.
