  1. OK bad typo I knew what I meant, where can I get something close ?...cannot be the only person who wants to spray a Yamaha stock white ? or close to it....I take it we don't get many paint questions on this forum ?
  2. Hi guys, seem to be spending loads of money on Halfrauds paint trying to get something close to the white Yamaha used all them years ago on the DT's...have tried Ford Diamond White which is too creamy, now I am on Frozen white which looks to white.....doh All I can find online is Clear White 36/W ?....however not after a show bike just trying to get something close to the stock colour....any takers on which car colout might match ?....failing that it will have to be a guess colour
  3. Running much better now not perfect but video to show you.... http://youtu.be/_ZruYZwGzmo Anyone know what colour white the tank is close to ?, tried Ford Diamond White but it's to creamy ?
  4. Well 1 blob of solder on the pilot jet and she lives.....ordered a new 1 along with some tank rubbers/mounts and a float bowl gasket so hopefully come Wednesday the carb and tank can go back on. Connected the headlight up the other day and it didn't seem to work till friend turned the key a bit further amazed light worked ....thanks for the help guys, least if anyone else has the same problem as me they will know what to go to straight away....good old interweb Just a thought what if anything should I do about any excess fuel which has entered the crankcase ?....
  5. Stuck friends horrible earlier model carb on today been sitting in a damp garage for years, and she runs lovely.....only thing I have found is the pilot jet tip has broken off.....could this make the bike suck loads of fuel through and cause all my problems ?....never noticed it before but when I look at the end of the jet you can see an unclean face...looked online and it should have a plain section after the threads....mine stops just after the threads ?. Least I know it's the carb and not the motor ?
  6. Dip stick just got a nice film of clean oil on it, no petrol or even a wiff of it .....running out of idea's as I type as you say all looks good it's got to be something dead simple just looking at me in the face but cannot think of anything....friend has a beat up DT175MX field bike in his garage will pop down tomorrow morning and borrow his carb....only thing missing I can find on mine is the air mixture spring but that won't matter at this stage. When I ran the bike earlier it sprayed grey crap out of the exhaust all over my XJR1300.....grrr never noticed till just, thats the problem with 4 bikes in a garage no sodden room !!!
  7. Blackhat the short pipe goes into a longer sealed hole forming part of the carb bowl.... Does all look well on the main nozzle ? choke choke hole leading from short pipe, gets blocked by choke rods end seal when pushed in plan view
  8. I know this is what is doing my head in.....friend who messes with his 2 stroke all the time but nows nowt about the DT said take the choke out, I said you don't understand if I take the choke out it will be like fully on....anyway just to prove him wrong I did and bugger me it runs a lot better and fuel usage is much better ?.....something somewere is wrong plain and simple....but what.... She even smoked a lot less without the choke ?
  9. How crazy is this....with the choke completly removed the bike actually runs pretty good ?.....just by stocking your finger over the casting...this makes no sense to me and is driving me crazy, why on earth would no choke present be better than with the choke fitted and not turned on ?.....I thought the choke worked by sucking fuel up the internal pipe and this fuel was then introduced into the fuel/air mixture to richen the mixture, when the choke is off....puched in the rubber end of the rd blocks the draw tube and stop this extra petrol....?. Please someone tell me I am not going mad and explain why the bike should work so well with no choke fitted and a finger over the hole ?....
  10. Will do another video tomorrow bit late and I get gassed out in the garage lol....any thoughts on why she won't rev ?
  11. I had just started her....just done another test with choke fully in..OFF and she still drinks fuel ?....any thoughts now you have read the book and seen the film By the way she doesn't want to rev much either; if thats means anything ?....
  12. Took carb off again and checked everything including float height..21.5mm so spot on, I removed the reed valves which again looked perfect, stuck her back together but she still seems to drink fuel....see video...the syringe was well over half full after filling the bowl, by the time I had started recording it had dropped.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WU2Jp44paHE&feature=youtu.be I had a thought about the seal at the end of the choke rod....it seems dented slightly so I removed it and added a small thin piece of plastic where it sits then flipped the rubber over and popped it back in...bit like swapping over a tap washer...not tried it yet but would appreciate your thoughts on the video.
  13. Will pull the carb again and check the overflow and the choke...also whilst at it I will take the reed block out and check them....to be honest didn't think about looking at these when the bike was waiting new parts.........no fuel leaking outside the bike anywhere Neversaydie....will check the fuel dosn't drop when the engine is not running, there is no fuel tap just the syringe and 3' of hose to the carb .....starting to bug me now....saying that bike is a winter project and only had it 6 days, most bolts have been removed/replaced new airfilter, stator gasket, sump plug & gasket, cover screws, rear inner mudguard rubber thingy...horse shoe shape, petcock seal and a few other odds and sods....
  14. Choke was out to start, she started 2nd kick as mentioned but as I could only put a small amount of fuel in she died, started her again and she rev's sort of half way and dies back when releasing the throttle, my garage is carpeted and there was no fuel anywhere out of the carb, I checked all the jets / overflows when I stripped the carb all looked clear apart from the main nozzle as pointed out above.....just cannot work out why she would draw in so much fuel and still run ?.....how can it fill the cases ? reed valves ?...to be honest I never removed them but will do if you think they might be causing the sudden dropping of fuel ?. Now back in 81 I had a new MT5 and I could knock the fuel tap off and ride home on what was in the float bowl/pipe am I right in thinking the bike should run for a period of time with fuel in the bowl ?, as she stands as soon as my syringe empties the bike dies within a few seconds; the syringe is connected straight to the carb via 3 inch length of fuel pipe ....
  15. Well all my new parts arrived today, typical me fitted them all within 30 minutes....anyway she started 2nd kick but is drinking fuel for some strange reason; even more than my ZX12-R uses lol....cannot really work out why, she isn't running great produces loads of smoke cough couch and has stunk the house out....I am running her as I found her apart from cleaning her carb out I have not altered the needle position or even looked at it....I have set up a syringe as a fuel tank and you can watch the fuel disappear into her and she will empty a large syringe in a matter of seconds .....any advice on what to check would as always be appreciated she will rev in a fashion but I cannot think why she would start so easily if she was being flooded with fuel ?...I tried to do a video but she stops before I can start recording lol...
  16. Could you recommend / advise on which grade of oil would suit the DT ?....the book calls for SAE 20W/40 which my local Yamahe dealer doesn't stock, I have plenty of Silkolene Super 4 Semi Synthetic 4 Stroke 10W40 knocking about which goes in my other bikes would this be OK or should I try something else ?.
  17. Reporting back, so glad it came out as the small holes were well blocked up.....thanks for advice.....will let you know when she is back up and running....
  18. Thanks ever so much, I will have a play today and report back I don't think anything is wrong but whilst I am waiting for the fibre washer to arrive from Yamaha I might as well check this nozzle....tank was full of rust when I got her and bad fuel; PO had ultrasonically v;eaned the carb but I think they only dropped the whole carb in as there was a deposit of gunk in the float bowl....saying that the rest of it was pretty clear....Used a battery charger and some mild steel strip to clear the rust out worked pretty good...and some baking soda lol
  19. Good call....old age I missed the small numbers lol it does indeed say 3U500....does the main nozzle come out easily ?....I can remove the "O" ring easily but didn't want to damage the nozzle if it was difficult to remove ?...
  20. Hi there doesn't seem to be any numbers on the carb ? Looking more into it today it does seem to be like the 1980/1981 diagrams found online.... Is it normal to have an older style fuel tap ? Or do you think its been fitted later on ?
  21. Thought I would post these pictures in the right section as well...anyone know which carb this is besides a Mikuri ?.....cannot seem to find a diagram in the Haynes manual which has the same parts; specially the main nozzle ?....bikes confirmed as being a march 1980 build and 1981 model by Yamaha, but she is wearing an older year model fuel tap ?....any help would be appreicated
  22. I now know the year etc as I rang Yamaha today but still unclear about a few things...she was made March 1980 and classed as a 1981 model....Strangest thing being the fuel tap seems to be listed as a 1979 version yet the carb is not from that era...maybe someone can help out with this ?.... Fuel tap... Main nozzle doesn't seem to match any drawings I can find ?
  23. Hi guys, new DT175MX owner....currently own XR650R, XJR1300SP, ZX12-R to add to the fleet I brought a pretty stock bike not used in last 21 years from fleabay to look after and bring back to full mechanical fitness....as you are all aware to easy to chuck money at these bikes and end up spending a fortune lol....my intentions are just to make her run perfect and keep her original as possible.... Still struggling to find out her exact model/year etc as fuel tap seems from a 1979 bike but she has square swinging arm and Mikuni carb....anyway hopeing you guys can help out when needed.... Here's the bike...
