  1. good advice, but before doing that a simple hot wire test this is what i would do because you say some sort of security device as been wired in take a wire from the positive on your battery straight to the positive feed on the lead coil this will feed life to both coils and with the plugs out and in the caps earth the plugs against the cylinder fins ,no need to turn anything on because you have bypassed everything else then using the kick start check to establish a spark if you have connected the hot wire to the correct feed wire at the coil they should both spark assuming they do then do as described above its a matter of elimination don't go taking everything apart be methodical and you will soon fire it up let us know how get on as to be honest the symptoms do point to a inlet valve problem
  2. Bit of a what came first chicken or egg question Be good to hear your take on that Why did Edward turner decided on 360 oppose to 180 back in 1928 well the answer to that was never recorded? I know that turner was inspired by the two central cylinders on his riley car engine and that drove him to design the early known Ariel square four engine that should have been the BSA square four but was rejected by BSA in the same year ,he then went on to remove two pistons and conrods to see what it would run like as a twin In 1936 sangster who owned Ariel then brought triumph and made Turner general manager But in answer to your question Mr. blackhat both 180 and 360 both have their draw backs but they said that the 360 degree made around town riding more buzzy as well as being easier to set up using a single carb and a simple ignition system with one set of points and a distributor. Whatever it was, he knew that vibration would be a problem and he specified things that remain radical to this day, like the forged alloy conrods to minimise reciprocating weight. But IMO ....come on there aint nothing on this planet that sounds like a Brit 360 degree twin is there. Cheers miffa
  3. indestructible you say.........we will see..............engine very healthy but it certainly aint no trailer queen ,should imagine the larger cc models must be fun, find them a bit boring on road but not to bad chasing rabbits
  4. you will all be pleased im back again bike never took a bid on ebay ,so they aint the sort after classic i thought they were but had loads of emails after the item ending asking how much would take ,gave them all the same answer bollocks you should have bid anyways did the fork seals and it passed its MOT and even tho these bikes are the biggest piece of shite ive ever rode theres just something about them, so decided to keep it and blow it up took it green laneing this morning what a laugh, it through me off twice but it put a smile on me face, got some pics but cant work out how to upload them and theres todays dumb question ????? cheers miffa
  5. well gone about as far as i am going with this wonderful piece of jap history another brit bike came into the fold yesterday so space is a premium , the yamaha has to go ,got the fork seals late yesterday so not fitted but supplied think thats all it needs now for the mot and running in properly ,it will end up on ebay unless its sold else where if any one wants a pic or two PM me your email thanks guys for all your help, great forum you lot have got if theres any help i can return regarding british stuff just shout cheers miffa oh sorted the carb
  6. cheers mr airhead ok its that time of day again .....its dumb question time...... motor back together its now running i suppose as it should and sounds like a cat being attacked by mouse ,no more leaks from the exhaust or topend sorted the mess the wiring was in, put a new battery on and its charging i think .....whats the charge rate these pea shooters give out with lights off and then on please going to spoil you lot tonight heres the second dumb question stripped the carb down to clean it as thought there was some grit under the float needle as the carb was dripping with the fuel left on, it was dirtier than a roman catholic priest, but after putting it back on same problem so how tolerant are these on adjustment raising the float?? strip forks and replace seals tomorrow many thanks miffa
  7. question to mr airhead am i right in thinking the blue dt at the start page is yours if so nice bike, and where did you get the tank cover as you might have guessed my tank is racked off as well cheers miffa
  8. Barrel 28.93 lb ft Head 18.8 lb ft Is what I have. cheers for that took the top end off today, its about time i said something good about this crock of shit well there was no exhaust gasket fitted barrel nuts were finger tight ,but the good news is piston ,rings, gaskets and bore all in tip top condition cant get my head around just how basic these 2smokers are they really are child's stuff in comparison with the old shit im used to dumb question number 3 oil pumps are they interchangeable with other yam models say a early dt or a mx125cc are they the same part number?? so i can broaden my search still have not found a manual and more importantly a parts catalogue on line as yet thanks once again miffa
  9. thanks again guys for your time airhead in 1981 the oil tank was behind the RH side panel, it should still be there unless someone removed it yes see where it was meant to be but its long gone oil pump gone as well but the shaft worm is still in place now then my new made friends does any one have a spare under there work bench for sale along with tank and other bits to make it work ,i will repeat this plea in the wanted section dumb question number 2 this misfit of a bike must have been put together by stevie wonder and helped by ray charles i think theres half of it missing right mixed some oil and petrol to try and start and to my amazement after 5-6 kicks brum brum but noticed the amount of exhaust smoke coming from the cylinder head checked and tightened the exhaust manifold that was very loose, haven't removed it completely as yet so unsure if there has been a gasket fitted so the question is would these little engines run if there were no head and base gasket fitted???? can anyone give me the torque setting for the top end as i will be whiping the head and barrel off later this week to see whats missing out of there
  10. cheers Mr dirty probably wrong tho but don't think the tank would have been located under the seat, the seat is bolted down not on a latch, when i looked under it the space seems to be taken up by the air box ,agree with the constant changing of the amount of oil supply via a pump, much better with one as it will be a pain to pre-mix all the time i will remove the casing tomorrow to see if ones fitted .....if there is one is there a test i can do to see if its working thanks miffa
