  1. First project out of my garage for Son #1, DT125R. Now son #2 has been rummaging through my shed and the leftovers of the first bike project, and come up with: a complete rolling frame DT125LC Mk1 - all there minus engine, carb, exhaust, radiator. almost a complete DT125R minus frame. Should I rebuild & fit the later engine, forks, yokes, wheel, disc brake etc into the Mk1 and have a kind of Evo? Source a Mk1 engine and rebuild the bike to keep it original? Source a DTR frame and rebuild the later bike...? Anyone got experience of updating a Mk1 and thoughts? Blinkin' kids and their bikes...looks like my projects are on hold again
  2. One of the coils on the stator had very high resistance, and as that particular unit is the feed for the CDI main capacitor, seemed a fair bet. So swapped coil, sorted some other wiring disasters - poor earths and suchlike, then all good. At least, until the water pump packed up....impeller had fallen off the driveshaft. That all sorted, it was great until the rear tyre came off the rim! Think a YZ rear rim is next...
  3. Thanks guys! I'll save the dummy-spitting til the next time son #1 wrecks his new toy (DTR) again......tomorrow I guess!
  4. Cheers. It turned out to be a really easy fix...I'd over-estimated the complexity of the Yamaha ignition system Bike looked like fun for 10 mins until the water pump packed up! Luckily we were able to get new parts pretty quickly so all good again...
  5. Hi All New here, managed to miss this section at first attempt and upset someone by directly asking a question. Slapped wrist. Anyway, had Yamaha bikes since early 80's and still got some of them amongst others. Now my kids have joined in too.... Mike
  6. well didn't take long to offend someone, I'm almost proud Apologies to all affected. Yes you were right. As it turned out I could fix it.
  7. Hi - new here so apologies for probably repeating an old topic.... Just bought my son a DT in pieces to use as a field bike. Having put it back together, the wiring loom has clearly been modified/butchered and the bike must have been running without a battery...assuming it was running previously. Having connected the obvious items such as magneto outputs to cdi, cdi to coil and rectifier to cdi, the engine will generate a spark but not multiple sparks. The wiring diagram I've found for this model is short of detail so not much help.. I'm an engineer in the motor racing industry so should be able to work this out eventually, but any quick answers from experience would be gratefully received! Mike
