  1. When I get it out I`ll send you a pic.
  2. Took the bike for bit of a run..on the way back noticed indicators not working anymore or headlight bulb. I have not done anything with wiring yet only replaced bulbs not working. Some wiring was missing when I got it so no battery wiring in place yet, no fuses and no loom to rear lights. Indicators were working when I got it so just replaced headlight bulb and neutral/2 stroke idiot bulbs. Should I replace voltage regulator/rectifier before it blows more bulbs?
  3. As revs pick up she will suddenly start to rev up way too quickly after 5000rpm. This when I`m not touching the clutch. Feels like slippage to me. This bike was pretty knackered when I got it and I`ve done nothing with the clutch.
  4. Here was the problem..this needs to sit very tight on the kick shaft..the one I had seemed tight but after fitting a new one I saw the difference. Only ZAR20 to replace..kickstart back to normal.
  5. Thanks Airhead..will have to take carb off again, although I gave it thorough clean..did not check float height. Is there any way to check if needle and seat ok..I can`t believe what 2 little items like that cost.
  6. Think clutch needs doing though..definitely some slippage.
  7. Strange..took the bike for a spin today and now speedo works. Might be short lived..have ordered a new clutch washer from the dealership (only ZAR20). Maybe I wont need it.
  8. Clip is a loose thing (dont know why it cant be part of gear assembly). This getting quite irritating now. The cable spins when pushing the bike around..also when everything apart things spin freely..but when i connect to speedo.. nothing..tried another speedo cable still no joy. Would think the extra pressure having to drive the gauge is causing that clutch/washer clip to slip. Everytime its wheel off and greasy hands...oh the joy of old bikes. Looked on Yambits..they dont seem to stock a clutch clip/washer like this.
  9. Ok cleaned up the two gears and they now run freely. Greased and assembled everything but still no joy. The clutch clip with the two ears on it is not locking onto the drive gear (i see there are 2 flat spots that should lock it)..I would think that is what is causing my problem.
  10. Also got speedo doing nothing. Was hoping I could swop a working gauge from second bike and all would be ok..but no. Ive noted Airheads comment on the arms on the speedo drive..mine just spinning freely not doing anything on the worm gear below. Not sure how things work here..took an hour and lots of WD40 just to get speedo cable out. Everything seems jammed solid. WIll let it all soak overnight and blast it with jetwash in the morning. Will appreciate any advice.
  11. Hi Airhead..yes please..a pic is worth a thousand words.
  12. Hi Guys Been away for awhile as bills have to be paid. Bike running lousy..dies at high revs and wont idle. Removed carb today, stripped everything, soaked in boiling water, sprayed carb cleaner and blew all out with compressed air. Refitted carb but she`s leaking fuel badly out overflow and still running lousy...seems to get better with choke out. Could this be floats or maybe needle and seat?
  13. When changing gears when getting to around fourth she doesn't engage properly. Needs a second push into next gear. Is this a gear selector wear problem?
  14. I am also a stickler for keeping these bikes original but I think this just really looks too good to ignore. Not to mention everything does stay original except exhaust..seat..suspension and front brake (which will be much more effective). Also that is a terrible non original front mudguard on there which can go with pleasure. Might want to keep this one...depends..this can get very expensive so might be forced to sell once I can`t afford food. Not interested in going offroad anymore..motards better suited to tarred roads.
  15. OK I`ve decided I must do this. This is the target result. Spotted a likely candidate for this project today. Don`t even have to paint the tank.
  16. Thought would put a pic of what original piston looked like with broken top ring.
  17. OK..seems gasket sealer has solved the problem. Luckily I have some diesel mechanic buddies as I come from the earthmoving industry. They organized me a good gasket sealer used on Caterpillar earthmoving equipment (518 flange sealant). The clip in the pic makes a huge difference to kickstart action. The original was sitting a little loose on the shaft so i bent it closed in a vice. You would think that should be ok but when fitting an original new clip from Yamaha it sat a LOT tighter. Fitted everything back in place and VIOLA..kick action back to normal. Stuck some gasket sealer on that cover as well. So seems both bikes OK..will check tomorrow morning for any leaks.
  18. Well not being a mechanic..i have to ask why should one use gasket sealer (isnt that what the gasket is for??) anyway its leaking worse than before so i will do anything short of welding the damn cover on. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the pubic hair of the guy who decided everything mechanical needs to be in a oil bath.
  19. By the way..fitted new clutch gasket today..oil in and came straight out again. After some swearing found out I should apply gasket sealer to both surfaces...I am learning the hard way.
  20. Went to the dealership with my kickstart shaft and gear today..they say wear on these items look excessive. Before replacing expensive items, thought I would try replacing the clip which is obviously essential in getting the kick gear to engage (cost ZAR20). Also I noticed something today..on the white bearing (pic above) sitting on the shaft inside the return spring..there is a recess that fits into the spring up against the casing. Makes a big difference to kickstart return..otherside lever does not come back up. This observation sorted the one bike`s kickstart out..(this bike needed new clutch gasket). Now must check if it makes a difference to the other one with the more serious kickstart problem. Should get the new clip tomorrow and we`ll see.
  21. Battled all afternoon with this with no luck on getting it working properly. Not sure if something might be worn out. The clip in the pic fell out when i pulled the shaft out and sits very loose on the shaft. Maybe this caused the problem in the first place. Can`t see how the clip must go into casing. Need to see a pic of how things fit together behind the idler gear.
  22. good day and bad day..my new kickstart arrived from Thailand. Why do all my bikes have either broken or wrong kickstarts? My foot very happy to see a decent kickstart. On the bad side I destroyed the taillight lens trying to get it off...damn screws rusted solid.
