  1. Just in the process of fitting a 2000 R6 rear shock, and then turning my attention to the front. I am of two minds at present, I might just get the original dampers reworked by Maxton who are quite local. but we shall see... I will post my progress up if anyone is interested.

    Having recently bought a complete bike as a donor I am tempted to use the left over frame as a template to build onto, which might just end up as new project.

    I have enjoyed 500 miles on my xj600 this year but decided that I want to make a few mods, so it is time to pull her apart and make some changes over winter....

    I have looked on xjrider.com and a lot of the diversion owners are swapping for fzr front ends and swing arms, so  I am looking to do the same to the earlier model...

    was wondering whether anyone with a 3HE would mind taking a few measurements and letting me know. Prior to having an ebay buying session, I would like to get an idea of what I am likely to have to chop and change.....

    I really only wanted distance between centres of the forks at the top, overall open length of forks,  distance between fork mounting faces of the front wheel, and the same for the rear wheel.....

    The idea is the conversion would give me wider front and rear wheels, bigger brakes, better forks, while hopefully retaining my original for mounts.

    The other option is that I widen the front and rear wheels, and modify what I have. which would be cool as it would retain the original old skool wheel centres....

    I am not massively experienced with bikes, my own pre divvy xj600 is still not "finished-finished", but I am an experienced motorsport mechanic and fabricator. and, at the risk of making a rod for my own back, I have a tig welder at home.

  4. I would be tempted to suggest the same as above, my pre divvy has yet to have this specific one, although might be worth looking at fuel tap and filters..?

    I have just stripped a running pre divvy as a donor for my cafe, and have a ruck of bits left over, some of which (inc engine) will be finding themselves onto a kart chassis, if you are nearby, you are welcome to try borrowing a few bits to cure her.

  5. Hey y'all....

    Quick update.... after a few more bits of buggering about, I got t'owd XJ into the sort of shape I wanted for now.... and then in Oct last year, finally passed my test and took my solo flight on her. Admittedly I am not experienced in bikes but I love her.... and she gets the right looks from people... most ignore her. others stare at the engine to see the manufacturer's name cast into the side to work out what she is.....

    The only down side is the first time she got decently warm, despite new oil and filter, the bottom end sounds knocky..... I can play a tune on her on the throttle when she is up to temperature, so I think she will need to have some surgery.... either replace or rebuild. other than that, love her!

    In the meantime, my bike instructor has become a mate, and I have helped him to get a GSXR thou lump into the back of a smart car... and I have acquired a 91 XJ600 Diversion too...... so maybe project number two is waiting in the wings already.......

    I will try and get a few pics of her on soon too. just to show she has progressed a little......

  6. side plate thingies slice? do you mean a vertical one along the front mudguard? I designed the back end to take a plate, I may stick a teeny tiny one on for (ahem) show use, and a normal sized one for road use, using velcro to swap between the two......

    Although I havent even got this one on the road, I was also starting to get ideas together for my next project, maybe a a similarly styled Diversion but running a turbo.... I quite fancy the challenge of turboing a bike engine (internal mods, setting it up nicely and making it look neat), mind you, I had better put that one to the back burner for now, and get this one finished!

    thank you, I know, I really am loathe to stick a plate on it now! it is a shame it is no where near old enough to have a black/silver plate..........

    Thank you for the kind comments! I am really chuffed with the way its shaping up, still lots to do, and I want to ge the panel fit a bit nicer.....

    Really pleased that it has met with people's approval. poor old bike didnt look like much when I got it, and it has been done on a budget......

    Again, thank you for the nice words and encouragement! (I am especially chuffed that the new back end didnt repulse anyone! (admitedly it was done out of sheet steel in a few hours, so it is never going to look as shapely as a GRP panel)

    I have tried to keep it fairly tasteful, the back end may not be to most tastes but it is the first one I have made from scratch, so it is quite functional!

    The mirrors are currently the stock items and will be replaced with something a little more in keeping soon!
