  1. I've only got one key for my DT. Anyone know where I can get a key blank from. Google only brings up US supplier.
  2. Popped in to Yam dealer in Loughborough today. They do a new after market ignition switch for the DT including wiring down to the connector for £25. Only problem is the helmet lock won't work with the new key. I'll stick with my direct wired mod.
  3. Thanks for the reply Cynic. I'm actually right on the border near Theddingworth (between Market Harborough and Lutterworth). I've taken the bull by the horns and wired the relay directly to the battery's +ve. There must be a short somewhere and so I decided there was little point taking a feed off a live from the ignition switch. The good thing is that the indicators now work perfectly although there is a tiny flicker on the brake light - nothing that you would even notice if you weren't looking for it. The only thing I haven't done but will do, is insert an in-line fuse. Thanks for the offer. If I spot a DT in Market Harborough I'll stop ya for a chat (there can't be that many in the "Middle of Middle England" ! Enjoy your holiday in Cornwall.
  4. So eventually I've got round to trying to sort this issue out. Direct live from the battery improves the situation to the point of it being OK but there is still a slight dimming of the brake light when the flasher is going but otherwise the flashers are good on all quarters. I've tried to sort all the earths and I removed the ignition switch but all connections are soldered so not sure what I can do there. I've also noticed that if I leave the indicators on for a minute or two then the flash gets dimmer and slower. Wondering if the relay is knackered or on the way out(even though that isn't the main problem). My voltmeter is a Black Spur cheapo and doesn't want to play at the bulb although there's 6v getting to the relay from the ignition switch. I've had the headlight out and checked all the connections in there (among the spaghetti). Front indicators are also brighter than rear, and nearside rear is the dimmest. So, anyone know a decent bike sparky in the Leicester/Northants area coz I'm stumped. My only alternative I reckon would be to run a live direct to the relay and try not to leave an indicator on when parking up.
  5. Thanks again guys. I'll try cleaning up the earths first then if that doesn't sort it on to the live directly to the relay. Are you bike mechanics or just enthusiasts?
  6. Thanks for that. I guess with the German on the plate that's where it started out its life. No prob with the bump stopper (I pm'd you earlier but there's no urgency - too bloody cold to be messing about even in the garage) V5 says first registered July 80, first reg in UK Sept 2011. '79 build?
  7. Hi. Bit of advice required if anyone can help. My near side rear indicator isn't flashing with full power and when it's on the tail light slightly pulses. Does it indicate (pun not intended) a short somewhere or is it just an under charged battery. I'm still waiting for a 6 volt charger which hopefully will be with me by middle of this week.
  8. Pretty much what the title says. My chassis and engine number start with 2K4 and on the info plate next to the chassis number I have "Model DT175 Type 2K4" with a bit of German as well. I know the bike is an import from details on the V5 but does the 2K4 give any more info.
  9. Thanks for all the welcomes guys. Yes it's been jacked front and back hence the block of wood which was to level it up a bit for a pickie. The stand is too short although it does still hold it up but boy does it lean. That's on my list of jobs to do - remove the jack up kit. I'm 5'8" and getting on the bike is not that easy. I think the only problem I'm gonna have is finding an original bump stop on the rear shocker. According to the instructions for installing the kit, the bump stop has to be cut down so presumably it has been. Also the extensions will have been locktited (?) so not sure how easy they'll be to get off. It'll test my limited mechanicing skills but I like a challenge. Just don't want the bike to be down for too long ! A summer job I reckon.
  10. Here we go with a pickie. Tried to post an image from Google Drive, Dropbox, Sky Drive and finally one that worked after reading FAQ's - Image shack!
  11. Hi everyone. Pretty much as the title says. I had one of these as a field bike some 30+ years ago and after watching a few Youtube vids decided it was time to get another one ! My normal ride is sports bikes + a Buell Lightning but so far having done about a tank full of short trips I'm loving the DT. What potholes in the road? I believe it's a 1980 model first registered in the UK in 2011 and judging by the number plate Redrose have been involved at some point. My first run out was a bit of a mare - the bike stopped after a mile, started after 2 or 3 kicks, then stopped 1/2 a mile later and that routine continued until I got home. I suspected fuel starvation (from how it just died but then started after 10 seconds) and sure enough after stripping the fuel tap and giving it a good clean, all is well. Not being much of a mechanic I was well chuffed to have sorted it - beginners luck maybe. I've already got a couple of question so I'll post them elsewhere in the next day or so. Cheers, Rick.
