  2. Right so after owning a dt for a mere few days and having ti heat seize on me i have now had it rebored to first oversize and new piston rings little end to match. Fitted it all and it ran seeme fine a bit smokey but i put that down to me putting a liltle extra oil in. Let it warm up then cooled it doen then let it warm again and cool down again, then left it running so i could get my helmet just as i was walking back to the bike it stopped. I couldnt get it to re start no matter how much i kicked it over, choke in or out, I took plug out and checked for spark good spark there. checekd pv and everything else all seemed ok . removed carb cleaned and put back still no joy. the only thing i dont like is the mix screw is broken some one has rounded the top of . so it hard for me to test by putting back to factory but seeing as the bike ran fine on this carb before i cant see why it needs readjusting. grabbed the carb of my gilera runner 125 4t and wiggled it on now the bike would start be very smokey but at least it ran. Now the carb on my dt is the mikuni one flastside i beleive 26 mm. can i find a rebuild kit for it .... no. I cant even find a replacement carb. Anyone know what sort of other carb i can get that will fit straight on but i guess will also need a jetting kit to suit. I feel like giving up and selling the bike for a loss. and getting something else im at my wits end i bought this so i could get to and from work on but havent been able to do this even once and im quite out of pocket now.     rebuild

    So I bought A DT and my first reaction was ... this is slow and gutless! My Gilera vx 125 would be flying past ! Bike wouldnt really ride above 50 mph and not rev past 6 1/2 k unless you was in first or 2nd. So i did some reading and thought uh'oh this is the model they heavily restricted. So did the usual, checked pv was ok. Checked air filter, Checked plug Unplugged reed switch from clocks and wrapped up air\water tight and placed someone else dry. Now when riding the bike if i took it up to 7k through first and 2nd 3rd but in 4th would start to feel like its hitting a rev limiter, bike would try to rev up but is going duh duh duh duh stuttering but if i held on to the throttle at WOT and would eventually pull through this, but still not get past 50/55mph so i can be trundleing along in 6th at 50mph at about 5 1/5 k revs but now i need to overtake someone drop it down a gear and then it starts doing the thing like hitting a rev limiter. So i then thought ok fueling, stripped carb cleaned couldnt see anything obvious, all looke ok so built it back up put it back still no difference, got a new br9es spark plug checked the gap still no difference. So after much reading of similar problems im now down to checking the reed valves and cranks seals. So after all of that i think ok low on power no biggie road it to work, and about 3 miles from work it seized with a metalic clinking sound . bike still runs but as soon as it gets a little warm you can hear it sticking then stalls it self, if you rev it sounds very metaliclly like something is hitting. So I stripped it down not rally too much wrong can see skirts of piston can see signs of siexing and same on bore but no really scorches or deep marks. I have now sent the barrel of to be re-honed and they will aldo supply the gasket set and a new top end bearing for me . Will re-build in a few days and report back ! ~ Wolf
  4. So First things first , Hello My Name is Don aka Wolf, I am 26 and from south east london UK Recently i joined the darkside and bought a DT125r , MMM love the smell of 2 stroke. I also have a Gilera runner twist and go 125, I bought the DT 1. to get better on geared bikes to do big bike test. 2. have some fun on! The other love of my life is my car A subaru impreza turbo, running around 160bhp atm. So my ol' gilera was getting on a bit and now im bored of it, used it for 4 yrs now ! Good work horse tho, 40 miles a day never misses a beat. ! So i was starting to look at geared bikes and also off road to have some fun on . Now most were not also road legal and the ones that were , were 4 stroke, and I didnt really want a 4 stroke bike again, I feel they are all a little underpowered even when they have been tuned. Just doesnt seem much to gain from small 4 stroke engines. So I looked at DTS,now i remeber when i was a kid , (i Know Iknow I still am compared with some of the older lot on here ) They used to fly power wheelie and all sorts , i thought to myself ooo ill have a bit of that bike to ride on road and then to have some fun off road So i scoured the local papers and websites and found one not too far from me (around 60+ miles) Went up and had a look, now it was a 99 dt125r in almost perfect condition, clean as, all original, Paid for it not too much just a little of £1000 , taxed and mot'd for another yr.
