  1. Several years back I got a letter through for jumping a red light. Odd, I thought as that's not my bag, but being the sucker I am I thought, "oh well I must have done wrong so I'll just suck it up".

It was only by chance that I tuned into chatter around the office, and like wild fire I heard one person mentioned they'd been caught jumping a red light - then I hear someone else say the same, and someone else... So of course I piped up too!

Turns out we'd all been caught on the same day, at the same lights - very close to our office. So we all requested photographic evidence and conveniently there was a light glare across the traffic lights - so whilst it showed us all going over the line, there was no way to tell which colour the lights were on...

We all appealed and it got dropped. Still to this day wonder whether it was an honest mistake from someone doing maintenance on the camera (or whatever), or something more sinister hoping they'd get away with a mass of fines!

  2. Great stuff, always good when you grab a bargain. Never owned a 12 string myself, fear I would not do it justice!

Currently got an acoustic Stonebridge (aka Furch). Always used to buy LAG guitars, but understand they're suffering to get a distributor in the UK now - would buy another in an instance if I could, fantastic and a great left-handed choice to boot.

One thing I hate about being a "leftie" is guitar choice & cost! Always get tempted when I walk into music shops, but can then only try less than 10% of the stock if I'm lucky!

  3. Enjoy Leeds... I used to work at Bridgewater Place, Water Lane (think the building is known locally as the Darlek). Apparently it's created a wind tunnel effect and as a result causes no end of trouble. Someone was unfortunately killed by a lorry that got blown over and they added more divided between pavement and road as people were getting blown into traffic...

Anyway, as I've witnessed for myself it can be mighty dangerous for bikers - so if you ride near there, take it easy.

And as for potholed roads - don't leave Yorkshire and head over to Manchester city centre, it's even worse...!

  4. Think it sounds like a fantastic idea Jimmy. Even if he gets bored (hopefully not), it'll give you something fun to do.

And if he does get bored, I'll head up and you can teach me, ha ha!

  5. No it's ok, he loves this sort of stuff - done a lot of his own research.

Don't recall when it happened during his duty, but he broke both his ankles when a dropped torpedo rolled and crushed him against the wall. They make an awful cracking noise! Had to have them set whilst still in the boat, then spend sometime down there before docking. You can see his face wince when they lock up...!

  6. Mike - reminds me of my dad...! He got his tattoos from various places around the world whilst in the navy. Only has 5 - biceps and forearms, but very typical of the times. They used to be full of colour, but not anymore.

His best one though? A small ladybird on his stomach. Got it in Japan as a drunken dare whilst docked there. Shortly afterwards he stole a locals bicycle and launched himself off the end of a dock. Sums him up perfectly...!

  7. Finally... For the first time in ages I've been able to log into this site via Tapatalk. That's one of the reasons for my silence, I use that app for other forums and find it easier to navigate around and view unread posts etc.

Lazy, I know - but I got a little fed up with the spate of changes so stopped logging in via my browser.

But anyway, whatever changes you made recently have sorted Tapatalk - so thanks Alex!

I work in IT, with systems so appreciate the task you have on your hands, especially when it's not your actual job. For what they are worth, my suggestions for a potential smoother upgrade process in the future:

    - Consider purging your database to get rid of ancient / obsolete data. Appreciate there are a lot of valuable topics in places like the workshops etc - but areas like the welcome section can be cleaned out after a period of time. They offer no value long term and just take up space.

    - Trouble with a general forum (any manner of Yamaha model), you're naturally going to get a large number of accounts. Again consider deleting unused ones from a defined timeframe. Get a comms sent out forewarning them if worried about repercussions.

    - Pointless functionality, or lesser used functionality should be switched off, as you've done with the garage. Just an extra thing to maintain and support.

If you would like any assistance then just give me a shout. I've got a lot out of this forum (knowledge and friends) so happy to invest some time in helping.

  8. London, Russia, Netherlands, Spain... And when I'm not drifting about I'm at home in Glossop! In fact I was down in London today, been a long day... Left at 3.30am and have only just got home.

So Stoke-on-Trent will make a lovely change!
