  1. Not the best of images, but all I have at the moment...
  2. The switch is a good idea. Toying with where to put it now. Could either make a hole in the top of plastic part of the fairing, or just have it tied to the fairing struts out of sight, and out of weather.
  3. I was thinking of pulling apart an old car one I have, but then saw these on Amazon. Only thing I'm not sure about is the connection, it has one normal round terminal like you put on the battery, then one bare wire which they say "connects to electrode wire of power switch" that I'm not sure where it would go.

I think I joined the back of the queue as the front was leaving Ace The little group of bikes I was in got split from the pack in London somewhere, and none of us knew where we were going! Ended up going down the M20 to Ashford and entered Hastings via Rye. The route we took is in my sig. Hastings was bonkers. Never seen anything like it. Something like 30,000 bikes in one day, according to the police estimates.
  5. Can anyone recommend any paper maps that are particularly good for motorcycle use? It's just for UK really, and I generally use a satnav but thought it would be nice to go back to a paper map in the tank-bag Otherwise I'll just go get any old map off Amazon that fits the size.
  6. Good morning, folks. I need to get a source of USB power onto my new XJ6, and as I need to charge hungrier devices like smart-phones and tablets, I need to be sure I have a decent 2A charger. A lot of the bike ones I've seen look a bit cheap so I can only imagine they're crappy little 0.5A 'traditional' mobile chargers. Can anyone recommend a decent device that will present a weatherproof USB socket that I can either install or tie to the fairing? Alternatively I'll have to take something like a cigarette-lighter style charger that I know is powerful enough, and take it apart myself. Also, where should I be taking power from on the bike? I'd rather take it from a part of the wiring that's only live when the ignition is on, to prevent any drain while parked. Is there anywhere 'official' I should be taking this from, or just join onto something like the rear-light wiring - they're always on when the ignition is on. thanks, Mark

  8. Loving it. Just finished a round trip of about 230 miles today, and no I'll effects apart from some aching shoulders - but 10 hours in the saddle with a couple of breaks will do that :-) Woking - Ace Café - Rye - Hastings - Eastbourne - Pulborough - Woking

  12. So I've got a last-minute reprieve from duties, so can get bit of a ride out in this great weather on my new bike I need some suggestions of where to head for - I'm based in Woking, Surrey, so anywhere an hour or two out with either a nice route and/or a nice destination would be great!
  13. Got it! Not bad - next day. I've had nothing but good service from the folks at Woking Yamaha. Feels a lot bigger than it looks in that picture! Okay, I'm going to fire my photographer though. Seems his iPhone in full sunlight doesn't get a black bike very well
  14. Hi folks, Picking up my new XJ6 Diversion tomorrow, and was wondering if there is anything I should be doing to keep it tip-top. My previous learner YBR suffered some pretty bad pitting and exhaust rusting in just 5000 miles, but I know it is a more cheaply constructed bike. I've heard of people going to town with ACF-50, is that something I should be looking into? It'll be used for a daily 2x30min commute in whatever the Surrey weather can throw at me :-) Cheers
  15. Hi folks, been a while since I've popped in, but I finally passed all my tests last week Just acquired myself a Yamaha XJ6 Diversion, should be ready for delivery tomorrow! Can't wait - bit of a step up from the trusty ol' YBR.

  17. I found a home for it. I found a parking bay at the back of the flat big enough for 1.5 cars, and the big Range Rover that parks there turns out to be owned by a decent person (I know! Who knew?) and she was quite happy to park to one side, leaving plenty of room for my bike. To one edge of the bay is forest, so I sneakily dug out a small hole and sunk a concrete lump in there with an achor point in it. Job done, and once some of the soil is moved around, the only sign of disturbance is the blue hoop sticking out of the ground.

  19. How does that work? Aren't these usually "permanent" installations? If you don't strip the heads of the bolts, can't crooks just unbolt the anchor?
  20. Hello folks. My new Yamaha turns up in a week or two so I need to turn my eye to securing it. I live in a rented house, and don't have access to a garage, so the 'easy' option is out of the running. I do have a parking bay with space for my bike, but can't really dig a hole in it for a concreted in anchor, unless I try and get away with one of those u-shaped ones that's flush to the surface - not sure the council would approve of me digging up the King's Highway though The bay is adjacent to a wooded area though, so as far as I can see I have a couple of options: I can use a chain around the nearest tree (that would be a 4m chain, to get there and back), perhaps buried a bit for concealment but otherwise non-intrusive, or I could dig a hole, fill it with concrete, and sink a standard anchor into it. The problem as I see for the "lazy" tree option is that the chain is pretty long, so could be prohibitively expensive, and also it's just lying out there, with loads of opportunity for leverage etc. If going for the buried concrete block option, does anyone have any recommendations for a decent anchor? It's only a little (but new) YBR 125, and it's generally a pretty safe area, so it's not worth spending £2000 on ironmongery, but I don't want to just give the bike away either! I assume one of the post-like anchors is better than bolt-down plate, as I can just sink it into the wet concrete. Regarding the chain and padlock, I guess I just go for a decent brand claiming to be insurance-approved or something? Or are there particular features to be aware/weary of? Web searches for these sorts of things seem to result mostly in shop-sites, rather than reviews. Same for disc locks. Apologies for the rambling question, and thanks in advance Cyl

As always when haggling, I think I had my "oh my god I want this now and I'm not walking out without it" face, so failed miserably at the hard-buy, but still got £50 off accessories in the shop. Does mean I'm now the proud owner of a shiny new Yamaha YBR 150 Will take delivery in a couple of weeks, which should work out perfectly as I can't ride it until Thursday, and then I'm away for a long weekend anyway. Can't wait! Now it's time to work out where I'm going to park the damned thing, as I don't have a garage.
  22. Cool thanks. Just thought I'd get the lay of the land I know it's a pain in the arse when people try obnoxious offers when it's not offered anywhere in the trade. I may see the shiny and forget to haggle, but I'll try!
