  1. If you cant filter, give some space to the car in front, assess escape route and hold in 1st and watch carefully the numpty coming up behind is going to stop. Only go to neutral when said car has come to a halt.
  2. Had my new XJ6 (in black) 600 miles oil change last Monday. Have similar thoughts on the bike compared with the old Bandit. Overall the Yamaha is so stable, really fun and easy to ride. Gearbox seems to work better when the bike is working harder. Just as clunky as the Suzuki in 1st and 2nd but a definite double click changing up cold in higher gears. Also the vibes 6k which I assume (hope!) will get better - had a long go on a test bike which had no noticeable vibe. The vibes are through grips and pegs, where the Bandit was more a lower rev seat vibe. The Yamaha screen makes a big difference, though I always use earplugs these days. BTW I'm getting 160 per tank whilst running in.
  3. Hi Barb, Gather its been a tough cold Winter and Spring in the US as it has over the Pond. Hopefully warming up now for a summer on two wheels.
  4. Similar experience running in an XJ6N. 1st full tank went for 161 miles and refilled with 13.1 litres. That makes around 55.8mpg. My old Bandit 600 was similar and would routinely die on to reserve at 170. Not sure how much the tight new engine mitigated by light throttle use makes a difference. Will keep a check. Actually say I'll keep a check, but probably get bored keeping note and from now on just ride the thing
  5. Suggest you also steer clear of J&S Accessories up the A3 at New Malden, they've got two floors of stuff. What colour is your new Divvie? I'll keep an eye out as I commute through to New Haw.
  6. Hi there, I picked up my XJ6 from Farnborough last week. What accessories have you got your eye on?
  7. Well, picked up the new XJ6 this morning from Farnborough. Rode just under 100miles around Guildford, Newlands Corner as well to/from work. Pleased with the added Yamaha flyscreen (expensive though), dont notice too much wind difference from the half-faired Bandit - though obviously keeping speed down at the moment. The bike does feel much more nimble and agile - great fun to ride. Any downside? Well the seat isn't as comfortable (slight numb bum). Otherwise pretty happy. Have to get up early tomorrow and take a long detour to work. xj6-4 by tps58, on Flickr
  8. Welcome Steffan and enjoy your new bike. I'm probably not too far away from you in sunny (not) Surrey.
  9. Hi there, any update with the running in? I take delivery of my new naked XJ6 next Tues. I'm in Guildford which is exacly the other side of the M25 from A12 so we could probably circle the M25 missing each other all day. Cheers Tezza
  10. I grew up in Hastings and the father-in-law was a copper and told great stories of trying to police The Carlisle pub with Mods on the ouside throwing stones in and the rockers barricaded inside throwing them back out again. Guess its a little more civilised these days, but what a great atmosphere. Must admit never actually gone by bike, every year we normally go down as a family, stay with relatives and walk down the seafront doing a pub crawl around old haunts for old times sake. Cheers Tezza
  11. Thats a good idea. I'd do Poole on a Tues. Will need to get the new bike run-in though. Cylindric who local and also on this forum might be interested. Cheers T
  12. Well I never rode the later one with newer 650 engine, but the difference in smoothness, power and willingness to rev was really eye opening and sold me on the Yamaha.
  13. Hi guys, just joined today. Yesterday I traded in my trusty 03 Bandit for a new XJN6-N. The Bandit has been a great bike for the last 8 years for commuting and longer weekend rides, but had a good test ride on the XJ6 and really enjoyed it. Really showed what an ancient and out-of-date model the Bandit now is. Black, with Yamaha fly-screen (thought about some other extras but decided to take my time and consider). Anyway, shame I dont have the new bike now for a first run down to Hastings for the May Day Bank Holiday events (grew up in Hastings). Fantastic weather forecast (though beware the sea mist!), I hope everyone has a great day out. Cheers Tezza
  14. Hi all, Just registered, first post! Cylindric- How are you getting on with your new XJ6? Traded in my trusty 03 Bandit (kept for over 8 years) for a new black XJ6-N yesterday at the Motorbike shop, Farnborough. Had a long ride on their test machine around Ash/Guildford/Woking and loved it. Going to be used mainly for commute between Guildford and Addlestone. Cheers Tezza
