  1. hey guys, I got some used carbs and they worked fine for a while than I discovered the Ethanol based fuels is destroyed the brass jets and needles in less than a year Any idea of any up to date carbs or after market carbs that I could buy to replace these with? 43mm outside measurement to connect to the manifold bushings. Ethanol is a bane to older bike carbs, fuel tanks lines and petcocks. It also causing water inmy fuel tank and rust. Is there any type of fuel conditoner I could buy to solve this problem? Still stationed in the Philippines so limited on what is available.
  2. did you solve the carb problem? You bike looks like a Maxim 400 your's is off the line 2500 before mine. There are less and less of these bikes running. By 2015 there may not be but a few of the 20,000 there about that were made still on the streets. I am planning on repaintng mine. I will strip the whole thing down to the frame. I am wondering how to repaint the rims to match the original paint job. any suggestions on how to do that?
  3. Hey Paul, Where are you in the Philippines? I have a home in Puerto Princesa, as well as in the states Not only are they good to Cafe but also to bobtail for a chopper style. Did you see the Harley at the Market Market Mall In Quadelupe?
  4. Hello My first bike was a 1972 Yamaha RD350, my second was a 1970 Honda CB350, currently I have an 1982 Maxim 400 XS400J and a little toy 1999 Honda Dream C-100. I pulled my vintage 1982 Yamaha Maxim 400 Model XS400J out of storage in 2007 after it sat since 1991. ahd to do a lot of work but I got it up and running. I was wondering if anyone knows how many of these bikes were made and how many are still on the road. Mine has 5500 original Miles all original parts except head light and tires. I am looking for a set of carburators to replace mine. The idle screw plate broke off and there was a crack inside the housing of the float valve assembly. I bought the bike new and it never ran right, it always flooded or overflowed into crank case. The shop could never figure it out. That is the reason I put it in the shed. I only recently discovered the real problem. I venture to guess the metal used for the Mikuni BS-34 carb was substandard. I have temporarily fix it with some epoxy and now it is running better than it ever did. Does anyone know of a new set of after market carbs I could buy to relace these with? Also I am looking for any parts or a non-running bike with good parts just for spare. I am currently serving in the Philippines and there are very little parts available here. glad to join the club. 5. Fuel level: 3 + 1mm (0.12 + 0.039in.) below from below the carburator mixing chamber body edge you wil need a level gauge with adapter to check the fuel level in the bowl. first do one side then the other.
  6. you do need the filter cover it helps to keep dust off the filter eliment. I saw some on Ebay for sale.
  7. I had a similar problem with mine. Your carbs are over flowing into your head and filling up you crank case. In my case I found a crack in the right hand carb on the housing for the float valve. I epoxied it and replaced the float valve and needle. no problem since then. try replacing your float valve assy. clean carbs and inspect for small cracks.

More than likely you need a set of Mikuni BS-34. Very hard to find and there are none on Ebay.
