  1. thanks....that seems to be the popular answer. i was hoping not to have to clean them...starting it this week...let you know how it goes. i really do appreciate the input
  2. its a 1996 yamaha xj600S seca II any help you can offer will be great.... i've had a couple different suggestions: 1. bypass the fuel filter and have the tank run directly to the carbs...if she runs then i know its the fuel filter. 2. remove the carbs and clean them...if problem still persists, then i know its the fuel filter... i want to use the best option for not screwing up the bike and i don't want to do repeat work! what is the simplest solution i can start with to find out what the problem is? again, when i sprayed either into the airbox, it ran for a couple seconds...when i did that do i really bypass the carbs? thanks for whatever help you can give me
  3. Need some advice please.... I bought this bike from a friend of mine...He barely rode it and for the past year and a half he hasn't started it. I went to go work on it yesterday and the engine will not kick over. i sprayed Starting Fluid in the Air Filter and she turned over for about 5 Seconds before shutting off. I feel like its a fuel issue. vaccum seemed good going from the engine to the fuel pump...however the flow from the fuel pump to the carbs seems week. it did not change when i tried to start the engine...the flow stayed constant, there was no "squirt" of the gas. before i go ripping off the fuel pump or the carbs, i want to know if anyone has had this experience with these bikes. the bike only has 3,400 miles on it! what is the most simple approach to troubleshoot this problem: 1. take off fuel pump - either get a new one or clean existing one (if possible) 2. clean carbs and see where she goes from there. thanks, any help or diagrams would be most appreciated
