  1. May I not be afraid then? Hm..Paul are you done with bobber thing? Do you have removed / old steering head bearings with you...I need the exact bore size of the lower one... By the way, where does the oil come from mate? am confused, why do you say its normal?
  2. Hi sorry if I was confusing you..let me be more explanatory here.. I bought new bearings...two with same size bores... (bore that's the term mate )as you may know each bearing has two cups once balled and greased on the groove and overlapped forming bearing..the 4 pieces I bought for two bearings had the same size bores...however it wasnt the case with old bearings...on the bike top ( I mean steering head's top) bearings had a smaller bore while steering head's lower bearing had bigger bore...in this case I replace old ones with the new..so I put one new one with the old bigger-bore one..but old one was kinda worn out so head is making noises when running. So what you are seeing in the pic is the OLD TOP bearing and a new bearing. Now I want to buy a big bore one to fix the issue..so I need to know the bore size of the lower bearing...as it is a pain in the neck to disassemble handle, heads etc..
  3. Hi Paul and all..here are the images of tappet (hopefully) oil leak.. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  4. The rusty looking two at the left are old ones, other two at right are new, but as you can see at right, the middle hole of top one needs to be big...and it has adequate margin to cut of which will be ok..like the top one's hole should match the hole in the lower one's...please I hope you've got my point..
  5. Hi Guys, I've got steering head problem of my xv125 and I have bought new bearings, but these purchased bearings have similar diameter at the middle hole which is not the case with the originally fitted in the bike..in other words, the lower bearing in the bike required to have a higher diameter than the upper one..so few weeks back, I put a new macthing bearing for the upper one and let the old lower bearing to remain..but still I get dock dock feeling in steering head when I ride..so wanna get diameter of the left new bearing adjusted with some lathe machine guy..there is enough space on the new one to cut...so I want to know the exact diameter of the lower bearing if you have them removed in the garage by chance...hope I have been clear with the request..I am attaching a pic of new one and old one..but these are of the same diameter..what is not available here is the lower old one..as it is fitted to the bike I will have to remove handle bars and all to get the dimensions which is a headache..please see what you could do..thanx in advance..(am in a hurry so typed fast, sorry if not good at taking you to the point)... 6. No not that long..it rained last 5 days back..its sunny now...but during last few weeks many areas of the country were flooded heavily...plus we had an amazingly cold weather...
  7. Methilated spirit means methanol + ethanol right...that is poorly distilled arrack...
  8. But my XV125 tank does have an internal paint... ...probably your tank's paint degraded...make sure u clean perfectly so that rust particles/flakes wont block pipes and damage pumps...
  9. Hi guys I just found this circuit diagram..hope it will be useful for you all as some customs do not have a Rev counter and you might need it during engine tuneups.. http://www.aaroncake.net/circuits/tach.asp
  10. Hi I have this Yamaha XV125 PARTS CATALOG (german)...I can send it to anyone who might think it helpful to keep with..
  11. Hi Paul thanx for the reply..no no smoke at all...am about to take her for a smoke test as I have to register her for the new year..I will get a report for CO2 , CO emission levels etc...I cannot register for 2011 without it...plus am gonna buy a new drive chain...will post pics... :)
  12. Hyya guys... I earlier discussed here about a gasket issue..I looked more closely into the engine heads and saw oil leaks from the top of each head..these are tappets right..? I guess they deal with the opening and closing of vents when engine running so am afraid of timing alterations that would kill the engine..both oil leaks appear to originate from exhaust ends..oil leak is more prominent at the left of the rear head..what should I do guys...is it possible for me to remove the head covers and see whts going on...the left right cover of the rear head was loose when I was buying the bike..and from that head leak seems to be high..do those nuts of the cover tightens some part(s) inside? I am very reluctant to go for bigger steps..engine starts fine..after 24 hour break and may be because of chilly rainy weather these days..I have to press the start button 3-4 times..sometimes bike starts at the first hit but if stops accidentally it will need few more hits to start...is this normal..? At very low speeds the engine doesnt feel stable..it doesnt maintain..kinda flow..engine rev speeds keep changing...I dont know whats going on... Is this a big issue guys...?
  13. Thanks Paul, but I just have few tools with me (just few wrenches and allen key set..so will get to a mechanic...yes I applied WD 40 after making them shiny and fitting together..I foresaw your point.. Yeah will get it sorted out...
  14. Its ok Ray..no worries..you owe me several pints of blood though...that burned lot of blood in me..couldnt even eat... tc man..merry x mas plus happy new year to all!
  15. Ya Paul I think you are right about the gaskets as I see some worn out gasket parts in joints..yes it starts fine..no issues..hm seems the only option I will have is to buy tube and gaskets from ebay... I bought WD40 and applied it to battery terminals...once or twice I had terminal oxidation that didnt send in the current to lights and starter motor..so I abraded the terminals fit them back and applied WD 40 so the surfaces wont have oxygen/water to react..is that cool? that is cool as issue fixed after that.. Am pretty sure oil leaking from worn out exhausts..I got afraid after NEVERSAYDYE's comments..I am scared of engine issues..
  16. Hey..really? I'm afraid of inside-engine issues..what should I do if it is a piston ring issue??? Rings are available to buy? Please answer...both rings gone since oil leaking from both heads? This affects combustion? will it consume more fuel? what will be the worst at the end? Please advice!
  17. Hi...lot of questions.. Changing gaskets because at either ends of the engine heads where exhausts fit..there are oil leaks..I should look into gaskets in heads therefore.. On silencers the corroded holes exist under the belly area.. and side so they are not drain holes..they are not that big so I can get them covered..then I may be able to smoothen them and apply some chrome paint? It is normal here to remove a drive chain link or two when the slack becomes unmanageable..that solves the problem..a new chain would be a bit pricey so people try best to repair the existing. I pulled the rear wheel backward to the max to solve the issue but you have no option other than shortening the chain by removing a link thereafter when excessive slack troubles you..trust me removing a link will solves the problem.. There is a oil leak in the container..from the piston area where break handle presses the piston..washers worn out? what should I do..am not sure if I could find the unit here man...
  18. Hi guys after long time... Was sometime away dealing with the bike, been understanding it more..plus I found a local store that sell genuine Japanese parts..at least they know the bike...errr yes they know the bike but for the gaskets I was given XV250 gaskets which I strongly think wouldnt fit.. Has someone got any experience on gasket replacing? XV250 thing wouldnt fit at all right? Same store gave me steering head bearings but the lower one's hole was smaller than the vertical rod of the steering head so had to put the old one once again which seems to cause issues..must remove them once again and take the lower older one to store to get a matching one.. My silencers have several corrosions (holes) and I wanna get them fixed...welding with some non-corrosive metal would work? When you weld would it be better to remove silencers from the bike? I replaced oil seals and dust seals in front forks... however bearing problem still there Removed a link of the drive chain and put new break shoes..had to remove front break pads...they had worn out..bought new ones but there's an oil leak in the break oil reservoir..oil was removed and now no break in front wheel... Please someone help me on these..if someone could send me break reservoir system for the bike I can send him the cost..I will see if that's available here.. Guys am wishing you merry christmas here! (am a Buddhist)
  19. Ok guys, thanks a lot for the useful tips...I should remove all the covers and have a good look...wires, connectors as well as plugs..
  20. Thank you guys, will address the issue, missfiring of course not an engine issue, its water on plugs for sure as it happens every time I wash my bike....
  21. Hi there, It's heavy rain season here...roads get flooded easily..I was on my way home the other day when I was caught up in a heavy rain..I didnt want to wait till rain cease so rode in rain..roads were flooded and I noticed heavy knocks in the engine...like I was on a single piston, one wasnt working for some reason, bike wouldnt move fast in high gears so mostly I had to ride in first or second..bike was slowing remarkably and sometimes I had to open throttle to the max but still bike was slowing...but at that point once I shift gears to first or second the bike would accelerate... Muffler seemed to have water inside and vaporized water created some smoke... Same thing happens after I washed the bike... My problems are.. What causes this issue? Bikes should not be ridden in heavy rains? I think wet spark plugs causing the issue..if so why dont bike manufacturers at least cover plugs? Are there commercially available covers for xv125. What is the specialty in Iridium plugs? When bike is wet electrical system can get wet. What about components such as rectifier? Have they been made water-proof? CDI unit can cause issues when wet? I know there is a computer in every vehicle..do bikes have some electronic piece to control ignition sequence etc..? Help me, lets discuss this..
  22. OOh I might love downloading a superb 125cc, fuel efficient (45km/liter) bike from UK with your help someday mate..you are welcome!
