  1. Hi there, I am wondering if there is any way to change the speedo on my DT125RE 07

I have gone from a 21" to 17" wheel size, is it possible to change the speedo so it recognises I have a smaller circumference, with it being an analogue speedometer?

    thanks alot

    Jake

  2. Hi there,

I have asked this sort of question before and am sorry,

but i have a friend who has an Aprilia MX 125 supermotard

the measurements of his front forks and rear swing arm are about equal to my DT125RE(from my measurements my DT may be a little wider)

does this mean that those wheels and other wheels of this type could be spaced to fit?

his rear wheel is wide and really tops off the 125 making it look like a bigger supermoto bike.

    any help will be appreciated

    thanks

    Jake

    EDIT: front: 3.00" x 17”; rear: 4.25" x 17” <-specs

the rear wheel fits with a smaller spacer either side, and looks really nice.

not sure about front couldnt seem to get the wheel off :')

  4. This question was already asked not long ago.

From what i hear, the mud-guards can be made to fit, possibly the carb, again with some modding.

But the forks i don't know for sure, if it is possible, it will mean changing the forks, fork yokes(top and bottom) probably the bearings and bearing races too, front wheel, brake etc.. Just off that, it would mean you would loose the steering lock from your bike and probably be overly expensive for the small benefits reaped by fitting upside down forks. Not to mention that YZ forks are designed for off-road and thus would give a decrease in handling on-road. There are probably better bikes to take some forks from.

from that i guess its better for me to just buy some socks to spouse it up a little :)

    thanks

  5. well, just thought this may be a good thing to post.

yesterday, my xt500 broke my leg. the kick starter kickback from hell. some how it cracked both my leg bones at my ankle, luckily for me everything is still in the right place and i have avoided surgery for now.

this bike had given me a pretty good wack before, even left me a little bruised, but obviously nothing like this.

so I was hoping some would be able to give me some hints.

is this a malfunction or has the xt550 maimed before? I know that the auto-decompress was working properly because I had just recently had it adjusted and it was doing its job.

has anyone else experienced such a nasty bite from their xt? is this perhaps indicative of a malfunctioning CDI or timing.

to give a bit more history here, i have been experiencing what I thought was carb troubles and have not been able to get the bike started for a few days, in fact the accident happened while working on it. the day it happened i had just cleaned the carb, fixed a leaky seat, and replaced bowl gasket, and had it all set up back to factory settings, however the bike still didn't want to start. I was getting spark, although without a way to really test the spark strength i am not sure how good it was. it would jump a 1/4 inch outside of the engine.

well, even though I won't be kicking that thing for 8 more weeks, i would welcome any help with what might be the problem.

anyone experienced nasty kickback that was actually a precurrsor to someother malfunctions?

take tare with that kickback. i was quite surprised when i came to hauling myself down to the emergency ward.

i don't know anything about the bike but damn hope your healing ok :)

    get riding again soon

  6. Hi,

I have a Yamaha DT 125 re (07) and I'm not sure weather it has a restriction of some sort,

I have come to think this as I am unable to rev high in top gear

all the gears have quite abit of pull in them too but top seems to

    not give this.

is this just due to the size of the bike or a restriction,

    thanks

    Jake

  7. That makes sense, fitted a big-one silencer to mine that had been cut shorter to fit the standard front pipe. So they did the opposite on yours by the sound of it and cut the front pipe

Personally i wouldn't have the pipe welded together though, i would keep it as it is.

yeah im not planning on having it welded, its easier to remove as it is :)

  8. Didn't expect that kind of fix from a dealer  :thumb:  Think you should name and shame em tbh.

Silicone sealant* ( bathroom kind of stuff) handles very high temps quiet well, used it as instant gasket for the cylinder head before now.

*not to be confused with frame sealant though, which tends to clog the cooling system up when it melts

yeah, they said the problem was due to a previous owner buying an after market silencer and having to cut down the pipe, then putting the old silencer on for sale

it was either that quick cheap fix or a new system so I opted for the cheaper option
