thing is I don't want to change from Yamaha they are reliable engines in my experience
just need looking after
but ill try anything let me know
im getting on the phone to insurance in the morning
and got it booked in at my local Yam dealer for accident repair estimate
if its a write off (worst case) I wil look in to buying it back for a reduced price
and crack on with 250ing it

iv reused the gaskets nad no leaks should be ok

put this down to bad earth/connection or corroded contacts

I had spend a fair bit on it but even just in service parts
I have just been buying all the parts for an engine swap now that's gone t waste
read though my insurense the bike value is 1200 and my excess is 950
on a TPFT but luckily I whent with MCE and they do excess cover on non fault claims
so MCE will only give me 250 pay out and
I will have to wait up to 6 months to receive the 950 excess that MCE take off the value
gutted I would fix it in a few days but the engine does not sound good which could get expencive
and ignitions fucked key doesn't work so I wouldn't leave it any where other than locked up
might start looking for a new bike soon Whats an equal in Yam land to a Kawasaki ZX4 (90s)

iv used a local spotted facebook page with over 3000 likes had a few responces no leads though

yerp im alive and sore as fuck, luckily iv got a lot of experience over 3 1/2 years 45000 miles and new how to leave the bike when in danger as safely as posible
I payed upfront for all costs of the lisence bike comes included

well a friend just told me of some one over wednesfield wolvo same description
and was driving like a dick almost force his car with his kids in off the road

im appealing to any one that saw a hit and run to day
around 12 in Dudley on castle island involving a black and gold XT (<Me)
and a black corsa with blacked out windows and rims young I think female driver early to mid 20's at a guess
as I was undertaken bye this twat as I whent to exit a 3 lane island taking the 2nd exit from second lane when
corsa on the out side lane cam from behind on the outside lane to take the 4th exit
I hit the rear offside and whent down
all the police need is a number plate the got the car on camara and witnesses totally in my favour
so if you saw any thing or no any one with a car of this description with crash damage on the rear offside panel
please pm me the number plate so I can get them sent down
she has pretty much wrote off my baby and injured me/nearly fucking killed me
this person has been seen driving like a right twat on and around Birmingham new road
which makes me believe she is local and was heading toward tipton/b-ham as she sped of through red lights
any help would be greatly appreciated I don't want this to end my passion for riding
I have the das booked next Thursday and no fucking bike :@

I thought the same thing with my XT but when iv been sat next to a friend on his YBR
the engines sounds exactly the same and his and he'd only done a few 100 mile since getting it from the yam dealer
at this point id done 35000 mile try not to worry to much
Im sure they use springload tensioners on the YBR & XT
in the service manual check for the tensioner
is to remove tensioner (two bolts either side)
remove end cap on tensioner and insert a thin long screwdriver
in the the opening and gently push
you should feel no resistance by this I mean should not catch, feel rough or grip when checking operation

the loom for the suzi 250 has arrived
all I need is oil change, cdi, ignition coil and make two downpipes
£200 and it will be time for me to get to work
it uses the exact same battery 1 less cost happy days

and what did you set it to if you don't mind me asking
stock intake valve is 0.08 closed
stock exhaust valve is 0.12 closed
im going to spend some time tomoro
messing and tweeking to get her running better
so this would be helpful
I assumed you had to change the cam
to get the valves to a lift higher
or is there limit on the free play

iv had recent back firing an it was due to the hose from fuel vac to manifold being kinked and perished
I this will sound abit of a novice but could you change the value timing by
turning crank to TDC
take the cam covers off
remove tensioner
and rotate the cam side chain gear by
1 tooth or however many times either way
keeping the chain in the same place (use markings)
then fit back together
not the most technical but you get the idea
I may try it before I change engine

you might find you have to adjust or swap a few things
and changing cam timing sounds like an idea tell me more

have you changed anything else on the bike
air box, carb main jet, removed AIS, spark plug
or made any adjustment to
idle screw, fuel mixture sxrew
seems like a mixture problem
also is it a full system or just end can
hows the fitting between the can
downpipe and engine this could be an air leak
I use an over sized tail pipe which every 500 mile
the connection between the upsizer to down pipe degrades and lets an air leak
and back fires like fuck soon to be welded tho

speedos shoot mate best get a new one there around the £200 mark for new one from yamaha
ive managed to fit an aftermarket one only took hour and half
the XT's looms to short in general over the whole thing
the positioning around the steering stem plus the length cost me two looms all ready
2nd time shorted out the speedo and when I cracked it open
there was a nice circle of black where a component should have been
remember you can still pass an MOT without one buy its against the law to be on road with out
and you don't need the twat lights either this may give you an advisory
that's what im using at the moment works fine

Nevs right its the tyre sizeing for the speedo
this is happening because you have a bad connection to the battery
or broken wire to the battery which is causeing it to reset
trust me sort this sooner rather than later iv had this problem
otherwise it can do 2 things new speedo or loom
speedo costs 200+ so check your connections
if this fails check the connector to the back of the speedo
XTs have SHIT speedos this is fact
if it dies completely
replace it with an aftermarket like trail techs vapour speedo

well the xt 660 would fit in with the petrol tank reformed and a bit of welding
yeah a 350 would

well I would strip the trics out of the xt and probably use the engine on something else
engineer report is something I could possibly get from my local yam dealer im always up there and they will help me get it to standard
insurance and dvla ill defo be telling
but I guess I best get searching for the rest of the electrics then
supposedly XT stock only produces 9.?hp 20 should be fun

so iv wanted to get more power out my xt 125 r engine im still working on this
but I brought a engine last year for cheap and it was a good runner
Suzuki 250cc AC SOHC 4v twin exhaust port with carb
supposedly produces 20.1hp on the bike it came off
has a standard 3 phase stator + single timing pick up
it will need new brackets made
and electrics I have a 12v 3phase rec no cdi
sprocket alignes like its meant to swap
I have my mod 2 DAS in a couple of weeks
so questions are
would it be worth it (im keeping this bike for ever )
will I need its original cdi or would I be able to run a xt's
and has any one else done this to there xt

well yea it does happen to me
only when I dump the accelerator from really really low rev's
I put it down to the amount of restriction on this bike
and that would tie in with what cynic sayed
take as much of the restriction off as possible if you want to prevent it happening
and cv carb is this the type with some sort of air vacuum on the top which draws theaccelerator pin up

iv got a lot of stupid drops and slips
the one ill always remember is hiting a local dirt lane that goes for my house to a friends
midldle of winter a lil bit of snow fell over night
id just been home to grab an allen key for my bars
on the way back down this dirt track I came across 3 lads my age, one had a .22 pellet rifle
thought best not stop
heading the same way they stepped out the way so I carry on past accelerating
100m up the track there is a tight blind chicane I remember at the last second
looked down I was doing 50 . . . shit tried to slow down didn't happen just sent the backend to the side
round the chicanei for a second I though yes im going to make it until I hit a pot hole the size of my wheel
I go straight over the bars almost KO'ed me, got up a bit dazed dragged my bike out of a tree where it landed at this point
these lads had nearly caught up so I jumped back on started it whent to pull off and nearly droped again
cus it was still in 3rd and stalled it managed to pull off eventually
just as they got there with the handle bars on my knees I got off feeling like a right dick
I still use this trail I just never forget where to slow down

iv brought a hydrolic clutch system for mine only problem is the slave cylinder has no bleed nipple and it needed all new washers and fluid
im gonna give it a go tomoro its been set up to go on for a couple of weeks now

even tho the xt's fucked down the one side iv bodged the gear lever back on and set me forks as straight as I can
cus I couldn't miss this weeks sun
I go to work at 10pm and back at 6am and do about 10 mile in one journey
so this weather is a dream ot me rather than -15.C
I need this sun
