  1. haha! This is funny. wheelie= sport bike. Good luck trying. Post it on youtube when you perfect it i gotta see it.
  2. Well i am in the final stages of getting this bike on the road for september's voyage to OC MD. bike week. 4hr ride.... I just recieved today, my new clip-on's, and headlamp ears, and motion pro quick trottle kit. Now to fine tune my vm34 round slide.... this outta be interesting. So i have a set of forks for my xs400 that come ready to mount a left hand caliper but every xs400 ive seen in the states only have a rt. front disc brake. Anyone have any suggestions where i can find this lt. front caliper?[/font ]
  3. I was thinking of using an acewell gauge. More or less to combind all the instruments into one. Or maybe none at all.
  4. Thanks Drewpy! Your are always on top of it!
  5. Hey all! So i am starting the process of installing a 18" wheel on the rear of my previously 16" wheel equipt 1979 xs400. Starting with my 18" used wheel i removed the old tire then position the wheel on my homemade wheel jig (axle and 2 jack stands). To find the wheel has under a 1/4" of run out left to right. Then i started to try to tru the wheel my self only to realize all 36 nipples to the spokes are pretty lose. Then i make some phone calls to some local shops that probably have a better idea on how to handle this more than myself. Well that is not the case. So anyone out there have any advice or knolege on this? Im gonna give this a go on my own. whats the worst that can happen!?!?!? Haha.......
  6. Mine would have to be a fzr400 and 72' xs650's.
  7. Can i ask what kind of rear sets u are running on your xs400 cafe? I've been looking for a set for my 400. omars offers a direct bolt on but they are a little cheesey looking. I also found a couple sets that are universal, but then i run into the problem of getting the correct hardware for the shifter and brake adapter. U have one great bike!

    86 radian

not a radian rider but, does it have stator output voltage?
  9. Thats funny i have a 72' cb 350f but it is blue. I do like that candy gold though.
  10. I will be adding a xs360 18" front disc spoked wheel and a xs360 18" drum brake wheel. I plan on adding a 99 ducati SS front brake rotor and caliper to give it that resto-mod look and functionbility. The drum front brake is scarey worthless on this bike, yet i like the way it looks. I have my eye on a set of tires, but got to keep speed rating and heat range in mind for a bike that isn't the fastest on the road. All in all it has to be one of the fun things ive built yet.
  11. Wow this bike is awsome. Great work! Nice to see a fellow xs400 cafe owner!
  12. Yeah like i said though its just a protype. It needs a little more work. But it does function quite well. Thanks!
  13. AS far as the seat goes. I am still working on the cushion part. I just love the way it looks, im afraid i wont be able to make a cover to compare to how well the pan it self came out.
  14. Hey thanks. yeah i am actually gonna paint the whole bike as close to raw metal color as possible. If i could it would all be raw metal but that would last 1hr until it rust. I am also looking to fab up a set of rear sets soon too. I want to get rid of the gauges and replace them with a mini tach only. And trust me the tought has crossed my mind about that factory orange color. I think it would be cool to do the whole bike like that, but then again i like the raw mechanical look of things. who knows a project is never done!
  15. I guess you could call it a whole different model of the xs400. I just cant leave well enough alone.
  16. thanks for the diagram, drewpy!
  17. Here are some pics of my 79' xs400 cafe project. There is alot i am changing with this bike. Dont worry bars are on the top of the list (going to install some clip on's). And yes the seat is a fab'd steel pan. The gas tank is a 77' xs360. The bike has been converted to a single mikuni vm34 round slide. Plans to completely change the whole image of this once original bike. check the pics out and let me know what you think.
  18. glad to see this thread is still going. Well i have 4 sets of xs400 forks to screw with. One of witch i am currently getting ready to drill the fork tubes. I have another set i was going to have the fork tubes shorted and re-threaded for my cafe. I love how low my bike is but, I dont love the fork tubes sticking out of the top of the triple. (looks like shit). Well lets keep the replys going. everyones feedback is great so far.
  19. Well as for this weekend my test start and prototype intake manifold was a sucsess. Now to fine tune the jetting. The bike runs a bit rich. But has super throttle response. Bought a brand new vm34 mikuni from a fellow on ebay. So far the bike runs and starts. I will post pics in some days to follow. Anyone have any wiring diagrams on the 79' xs400 models that they could share? I want to take some short cuts in my build and modernize some of the wiring system.
  20. thats a sweet bike. myself am working on a xs400 cafe racer. (will post pic once i learn how)lol! Can i ask what size rear wheel you are running?
  21. Thanks, Yeah i replaced the swing arm bushings with a needle bearing setup about a year ago (what a difference!) I also have a second swing arm that i made with more bracing to it (havent added it yet.) You are deffently right about the fixed dampening ordeal. Thought about doing a set of cb550 forks with emulators and springs (alot more avalible for those.) I know, i was told before that i have a shot gun style of repair... Im all ways trying to fix whats not broken. Thanks bud!
  22. Hey bud. I have tried this swap.... In my experience with this, i found that altering the frame that much and the light weight suspension, makes the bike nearly imposible to ride as a normal motorcycle. All though very fun and quick, it make for a very scary ride. When i chopped up my xs400 frame, i damn near made the frame the same size as the original xs650 frame, there for the xs400 suspension was evan worse acting then before. I found it was just easier to just buy the whole xs650.
  23. So i am going to put a spoked 18" rear wheel on my xs400 cafe racer to replace the 16" "Hardly" looking junk. I am thinking of the Avon AM26 Roadrider 100/90V-18 Blackwall Tire. I think that it would give it a decent ride/road contact feel. Maybe evan give the bike a more sporty road behavior. What do you fella's think?
  24. Hey any of you xs400 guys out there know of any semi-performance upgrade fork springs avalible for the xs400? My xs is so sloppy in the front end, I found "hagon" fork springs on wemoto, anyone know if these have a stiffer spring rate then factorys? I want to do a fork brace from (omars), Steering stablizer from (mikesxs), clipons from (fastfromthepast), and new needle bearing for the head tube. I want to improve the handling. Any ideas throw em out there... thanks!
