  1. When we had all that snow me and my mate thought hmmmmmm???....Arm chair....set of ski's....bolt them to the arm chair....add one 4x4 jeep and a ski rope....sit down hold on!!!....put your foot down on the gas as hard as you can and watch me sh*t my self and fall of at the end lol.. :D

  2. Well done Antz. You couldn't have started at a better time of the year.

Just be aware that as we are in a bit of a dry spell of weather when it does rain the roads will be slippery.

    Have fun

Cheers mike!!..i no it's been lovely weather but like you said when it rains it's going to be dodgy!!!...i have not riden this bike in the wet at all yet

  3. What a day guys!!!...well today was my first day out all day after passing my bike test tuesday :D ....so i done the shopping this morning done the daddy thing with my daughter pleased the missus ;) ...then i was all ready to go out at 10.00am on the dot!!!....so of i went to the petrol station to fill the little beauty up, and then it all went wrong!!!...i been waiting for today for 3 full days!!!, well i got to the garage where another biker had just filled up, got of the bike put it on it's side stand, walked to the pump and then :( ...yes the bloody thing fell straight on it's side and all you could hear was smash crack....i was sooooo gutted!!!...Lucky for me when i bought the bike a couple of weeks ago the bike came with crash bars on both sides so the only real damage was the left hand side mirror!!!...i felt like a right twat as the whole garage could see me picking the bike up...so i spent the next two hours riding around to find a replacment mirror and bracket..after all of this i finally got onto the a32 and just about every where else...and i have fallen head over heals with biking!!!!...I love it :D

  4. I can't speak for you, but if my missus said that I'd chuck a tent, some camping stuff and I'd be off, where? no destination, just choose a direction at each junction and see where you get to. When it gets dark, tent up, bit of food and sleep, then do the same thing tomorrow, and the next day and the next, until I ran out of cash or I smell so bad that I need to go home and get clean......

but then,,,, my missus wouldn't be so daft as to make such an offer ! So now I plan my getaways,,,, 21 days to departure, then a whole two weeks in the mountains and parks of Portugal, Gib and Spain :offtopic:

    :D

WOW never thought of it like that!!!...now you got me thinkning!!!.. ;)

  8. I hada run out on a XJ600 the other week, and I thought it was a superb commuter/first bike. There's just nothing difficult about it.

Remember, you've only passed a test, all that means is you are qualified to start learning now. It's a great buzz that first ride but stay safe and remember it's no use being right if you are the one in hospital!

Yes i no this!!! i have been riding for one year on my gilera cougar 125cc but with no power to be honest!! i also agree i am a learner again as i have never had a big bike i.e it's like going from a mini to a porshe in one afternoon,i went out today on the A32 it was lovely just cruised and enjoyed myself with the odd blip here and there on the straights!!!...i have a lot of respect for death and injury and at 33 i do not have the guts like i used to at 17 and so on...but i have to say i have finally found myself after many years...to some it all up...IM WELL CHUFFED!!!... im still grinning now :D

  9. i got to agree with 2 wheels , get to know your bike first , as all bikes handle slightly different, get your self some decent kit and ride safe I have only had one accident in riding i was stationary and it wasnt my fault but it still bloody hurt

God i sound like my dad.

Congrats on passing Ant and welcome

I 100% agree!!!....i pooooed my self and already have made a mental note ;)

  10. Good evening guys!!...and ladies <BOWS> ...my name is BIG ANT...well ant but aka BIG ANT... ;0) ...so here i introduce myself!...i am 33 live on the south coast ( lee-on-solent )...i have been rididng for one year exactly on a Gilera Cougar 125cc, to see if i liked biking and could handle all year round riding, as i go to and from work every day on my bike!...short answer YES!!!....i love it!!! so today i passed my last test MOD2...woooppp woooppp wooopppp!!!...yes im happy!!!... ;0) ....so i passed my test on a suzuki GS 500 and to me this was very quick, i quote for a newbie!..so as soon as i passed today i got straight home knowing my bike was ready to go, and of i went!! i was expecting slow pick up and not much pull ( according to MCN ) no power bands etc!!! i no i am a newbie but the suzuki GS 500 had some guts but OMG, i got onto a 60 limit let rip and flew past every thing on the road!!...i must add this was not my intetion the bike just went and i held on!!..all i am saying is this bike to me is super for a newbie and has given me a big grin on my face, and i look forward to many months or maybe years ahead of biking!!!...so i hope you guys and gals will let me join your club!!!...fanks for looking BIG ANT :P

  11. I second that, had a side-stand drop down while riding off road, threw me off and trashed my bike and the quad it crashed into after, luckily the 7y/o whose quad it was, wasn't on it at the time.. Its not worth the risk! its there for a reason.

The switch may just be sticky.. they're basic switches, at least have a look and give it a spray with wd40 or the like!

    Vez.

I also agree but at least he now knows the problem and can at least ride the bike until he gets a new switch

  12. I have had the same on my bike and it was the side stand switch!!! i spent money on the clutch etc and i thought it wasx fuel problem, you start the bike?.. all is ok revs etc?...you put it into gear and pull away and you die??..then it must be side stand switch they tend to break down ! you need to by-pass the switch get a multi-meter and see what wire does what and by-pass it,i think oldgitonabike is about right!!..maybe wrong but it ticks all the right boxes that my old bike had, good luck and let us no :)

  13. ;)For any one who did not read my last post i have bought my first big bike yamaha xj 600

21.000 miles full service history, and a lady owner for 5 years and hardly used, and garaged the whole time, the bike runs just fine but kicks out a lot of white smoke when it gets warm, and smells of fuel..only a bit!!...there is a ticking noise from the front of the engine, yamaha members asked me to see if all four exuast ports got hot, yes they did..and no i did not burn my hands lol i have phoned a local guy to get the carbs balanced but he reckons it will cost £100..is this right? a freind told me it's one hour work for a garage?..yamaha members also told me to video the sound etc so i did this afternoon the link is here....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IPYs7uhj9Q....i just hope it's not going to cost a bomb to put right as im allready low on money from buying this bike!!! and the wife it giving me the evil's rightr now lol...cheers guys!

  14. can you get a video of it running with the ticking noise ,if its been stood a while the white smoke could be condensation, and the petrolly smell will be the carbs which will need balancing, I would also drop the oil if its been run or serviced for a while.

Ok doki i shall do this as soon as i finish work!!!

  15. Isnt it a four cylinder bike? I'm talking about feeling the heat in the exhaust header pipes, nothing to do with cans. if a cylinder is not firing, the header for that cylinder will be cold and you should not continue to run the bike until this is investigated and fixed.

    DOHH

Ok ok!!!!...very sorry as stated im new to all this i will go check!!!...<<feels like im in 1st grade ;)

  16. Maybe its not firing on all four!, is it rough and lumpy...cautiously feel the exhaust pipes to see if they all warm up, and of course if they dont then theres your trouble. ;)

the bike did have 2 exhausts in the first place but was replaced by a single can NEXXUS exhaust so i was hoping the carbs had not been set up propley for the single can, but the tapping does worry me but it rides just fine just does not tick over with harmony!

  17. Failte: Antz To the YOC. cool.gif

Has the bike not been used for 5 years.

Where do you think the "slight tapping noise" is comming from ?

The bike has been used on and of by the ex rider in those 5 years, she stated she had only done 150 miles in the last year alone, the tapping noise is very slight and appears to be from the front of the engine, the reason i bought this bike from what i read it would last..but seems i may have just made a fatal mistake....i hope not!
