  1. Thankyou for all the advice on this, much appreciated
  2. hi everyone left my xt660z tenere idling for a few mins after a run was going to check the engine oil level and noticed the downpipes started Glowing Red! near the cyl head, is it normal? never noticed before bikes only done 1200 miles runs great otherwise
  3. Thankyou again Gas up, it is a fiddly job similar to my old xt, length of hose pipe , funnel and supposed to fill the tank initially with 1.9 l of oil, then start and tip the other 0.6 l in after the levels dropped so being clever thought id just tip that little more in, big mistake too much, so theres the funnel filled with oil not going anywhere, hose pipe in the hole, so thought take it out and the oils gonna go everywhere, so i just pushed the starter and thought it should just go down, Wrong! blew all the oil back out the funnel over me and the fuel tank and everywhere! funny really, will get it right next time
  4. Forgot to mention im 95 kilos, so its gonna compress! thankyou for the info reckon might make things a little easier.
  5. Hi,I am after some advice,The XT 660 z is a tall old beast, and ive currently got a problem with the cartiledge in my left knee, does anyone know if the sidestand would be strong enough to actualy climb on the bike from, as opposed to trying to get on to it from the ground. appologies for a daft question but its proving a prob climbing aboard as it is, for me. i wonder because on my old XT600 the sidestand actually sheared off up near the weld at the top pivot point, never used to use the stand to climb aboard on that, as it was a fair bit lower, not sure why it broke, had it welded at the time and the guy said the metal at that point was way to thin so maybe was a defect in manufacture. at the time did contact yamaha, but as the bike was out of warranty then,so no joy, so thats why im wondering if its going to be wise to try and use the stand on the Tenere?
  6. Thankyou Gas-up, its the xt660z thankyou for the info
  7. Hi Can someone advise me the correct torque wrench setting for the xt660z tenere engine oil, drain plug, hand book states 30nm, that seemes rather tight. just thought id double check as changed the oil yesterday although when using a new washer, it seems to be getting tight, but its as the washers compressing. just tightened it to 25nm in the end, but obviously dont want it to come loose. any advice appreciated.
  8. Thankyou for the info Gas up, interesting point about the noise, still running mine in, only 400 miles so only reving to 4.5 so guess it will sound better when i can give it more revs, still not sure about aftermarket silencers for it, £ 350 still a fair bit of dosh esspecially this time of year ,[ moaning wife whining kids, ] that kinda thing. can just see em looking beneath the tree, and one big box labbeled Leovince! ill be a dead man!
  9. Hi Everyone, am thinking of fitting some aftermarket silencers to my 08 tenere, fed up with it sounding like my Flymo, have seen some leovince ones on ebay from Italy, what are leovince like, Quality and sound wise? and are they a pig to fit? there around £360 on ebay , think thats around £60.00 cheaper than uk prices. not sure if its a good idea buying direct from italy as if theres any probs, then would be a lot of hassle. would anymods to fuel injection be needed after fitting these.
