  1. Hello everyone,

have been very quiet, but still reading posts. But now i need some advice.

I had my bike (xvs 650) painted a short while ago, and now i seem to have a leak on the fuel selector valve. Difficult to pinpoint exactly where.

Strangely the stuff leaking looks more like oil (a bit yellowish) than fuel. smells like fuel though, and i cannot imagine it being something else.

I removed the valve (thats what i think its called) with the 2 screws, and later just put it back.

Was i suppose to change any seals or so?

    thx

  2. do you still have the original front wheel on it?

Wheel size influences the speedometer. A smaller front wheel will cause the speedo to indicate more than your actual speed, and vice versa.

  3. hello guys,

i'm abandoning the idea of using parts of the original exhaust, and getting the idea of making it new front to end.

Buying pipe and bending it (with a hydraulic bender) the way i want.

But how do i make the connection to the cylinder? Can i buy a standard connecting piece and weld my pipe to that, or how would i go about that?

    thx

    Peter

    Hello all,

again looking for some advice from the pro's...

I've taken up the idea to remove the mufflers from my exhaust, and make a set of new ones myself.

Just a straight pipe, pointing a bit upwards...

Now i'm looking for baffles which would give me a nice deep sound, not too loud...(but still loud enough :) )

    any advice?

    thank you

    Peter

  4. holes were pre-drilled when i bought the handle bar, so no problem there. Needed to extend the wires though, which is a bit of work.

Plus the bike is always in the garage, next to heating :)

When you routed the cables through the bars, I take it you drilled a hole in the bar? Would that not affect strength? And do you suffer from corrosion if you had to drill?

  5. here's what i did with mine.

For my feel, it is very comfortable. My back is not 100% (thanks to a nice horse !@@#$$#), but i did a tour of several hours last week, and still feel ok.

What you need to consider is the routing of your throttle and clutch cable, and electrical cables.

I put all of my wires inside the handlebar.

And i used risers. If you just put the new handlebar on the existing mount, i could be that you lean to far forward.

  6. Oh shit, so the connecting pipe really connects the 2 exhausts?

I thought it was only for rigidity or so...

    pfff...there goes a nice plan i guess.

    thanks

    Peter

  7. yep. i'm screwed...only the last one comes off....

But if i cut the interconnecting tube, front one should come off also.

i'm thinking of a system where i can still revert back to the original mufflers.

If it ever gets to be more than an idea, i'll post a picture.

And, ...i started her up without the last muffler :) very nice!!, but not for the neighbors.

  8. thanks guys.

I was planning to just take the end part off (i think that's called the mufflerr?). doesn't it come of without cutting?

    thank you

    Peter

I took photos of my exhausts, but not the baffles.......

    Here are the exhausts

and here are the baffles which were supplied with my pipes http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DB-KILLER-universali-MARMITTA-exhaust-pot-auspuff-/230490165693?pt=Ricambi_e_Accessori_Moto&hash=item35aa48d1bd

The full set can be found here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-DRAGSTAR-V-STAR-XVS650-XVS-650-exhaust-MARMITTA-/230490166500?pt=Ricambi_e_Accessori_Moto&hash=item35aa48d4e4

Peter, think long and hard before cutting your original pipes as they are very expensive to replace if you ever need to. Better to buy a set of noisey pipes and hang the originals in the garage, just in case.

  10. ...and also the rear view mirrors. They look fantastic. What brand are they?

    hello,

risers are highway hawk, 4" high. I first got the 6" one's, but they were too high (bit better comfort, but didn't look nice to me).

The mirrors are "Scythe" from Kuryakin.I got them in the local harley shop,so needed a converter to metric.

They do tend to vibrate when i go over 80 kph...but probably that's normal.

The handlebar i don't know what brand...just bought it at "Louis" shop in Germany.

  11. ahaaa, that's why i see pictures from other people in the post.. :)

yeah, throttle cables need to be changed. They have enough play, but i want the metal braided type,to match the brake line, as well as vance & hines pipes, other air filter, dual headlights, forward controls....better stop here.

The links now work......however if you put [img] in front of the link, and at the end of the link, you get this......

Very nice 650, but those throttle cables look very tight.

  12. not that specific one, but here's what i did...

when i first bought the handlebars, it looked very wide. But once installed, i find it looks good, and the ride is very comfortable (i used raisers also...).

Mirrors also changed...but don't have a picture of the bike with the new ones..

    Hey everyone,

Any V-Star 650 riders who have replaced their stock handlebars with custom handlebars especially the Baron Starbar here?

    The link is HERE
