Good morning...... Can someone please recommend a genuine and good bike mechanic who works on `the older bike` local to Chertsey in Surrey, who is reasonable when it comes to the wonger. I have a 1980 XS750se US Custom (triple) that has petrol pissing out of one or more of the carbs. I have tried tapping the bowls to try and free anything that is stuck up inside but with no success. I think the carbs need to come off for a sort out. I`m a six inch nail and hammer man with a short temper ......so think it best to leave to an expert! I can deliver and collect the bike. Cheers, Mick.
  3. Thanks to all for your input. Can`t use the wife as she doesn`t even know i have this one!! I chose to opt for Flyin Brian`s method......perfick. so cheers everyone and safe biking.
  4. Sorry, been away for the weekend watching my football team getting knocked out of the FA Cup by a team 3 leagues below them!....pathetic performance but the other team were brilliant.....a case of good old FA Cup mini giant killing! Anyway, thanks for all your amusing replies. Can`t use the wife to check the levels...I didn`t tell her i bought the 1980 US Custom....she found out 6 months later and went ape!....understandable i suppose but hey! and I`m not going to tell her i`ve now bought the Dragstar!.....I`m definately a dead man if i do!! I`m nealy 60 for god`s sake....i thought you could do what you liked when you got older after the kids had fled the nest.....wrong!
  5. Hi all, just got my little baby. The manual (disk) says to keep the bike level whilst checking the oil level.....easier said than done on your own and without a centre stand! Do I `wood block up` the side stand, taking obvious care not to drop it to the right, or is there a safer way to do it? many thanks, mick.
  6. thanks guys.....will have a play and keep you posted.
  7. no.....choke def,def off....i`m not quite geriatric yet!! it turns over but does so like the battery is flat and as i have said....it starts fine when everything has cooled down but that takes at least an hour or so! the battery was purchased last year and the tester is telling me it`s holding it`s charge. cheers for the reply and thanks for the welcome.
  8. Hi everyone, I am new to the YOC and I have a shaft driven,1980 XS750 SE US CUSTOM....it`s in really good nick and i luv it. Got my license in `68 and have not ridden since `70 but have now been riding again for 3 months...her in doors ain`t happy though..but a man`s gotta do etc!! I am not very techy but able to do basic stuff, however, I have 2 clever biker mates who help me out. Right, now to my problem......it starts fine (electronic)and I keep the battery on constant trickle charge (optimser). If I travel a short distance (say upto 3 miles) turn off the machine...it will start again with no probs. If I travel further (say 15 miles) it will not start again (unless bumped) but will then start perfectly when everything has cooled down. Any ideas? Cheers, Mick.
