could any one post up a service manual page on installing the kicker gear in a 78 dt 400. I can not seem to get it to wind up correctly and don't have a book for it. thanks

if i'm understanding you correctly, the rubber bushings are most likely to blame. Try and get the part # from yamaha and check to see if you can get them anymore. you could always solid mount them but it will chatter your teeth.

I think it would be great, there is nothing out there for Yamaha sleds especially vintage sleds. This may not be a big deal for some people, but here in Minnesota and the great north woods we get snow. It would get used believe you me. THANKs tO All

ok so i got the 70.5 mm from wiseco, this way i can hone it out and make sure it gets a nice cross hatch. wow these are spendy
-
check to see if your compression is getting low

my mic says its 70mm,and the mic doesn't lie. The thing is the piston in it now appears to have about 10thousanth slap on the skirt end, and on the top. So i cant help but think this was never the right piston in the first place. Also when i got this bike i tore the top end off only to find the piston in backwards .

wow you fellas come up with some wacky stuff over there.

well my cylinder is 70mm bore but the piston is stamped 0.50mm and the #1 or 4 followed by 52p2 is stamped at the top. I have sent for a new 70mm piston, but wanted to know were this other piston is from. any ideas???????

i have noticed over time that these old yamaha bikes just kinda evolve from one another.in a way i always thought of the as the small block chevy of motorcycles. but i don't like chevy...........GIVE ME TWO WHEELS OR GIVE ME DEATH.

has no one ever heard of the yamaha factory perfomance kit, the GYT kit was available from the dealer when you bought your bike or snowmobile. This kit included tuned pipes, carbs, clutch set, a complete top end with bigger ports and more compression.

I have a lot of 70-78 yamaha sleds 292-433. I am hoping for info on any gyt kits for any of these old sleds,or for older bikes like the dt,rd,yz all mid to late 70's ,and especially for a 69 ct-1

when i got this bike i tore down the top end, only to find the piston in backwards and a very shoty base gasket . after looking closely and picking alot of old gasket material out of the oil journals and transfer ports i reassembled with new base gasket. and it still wont so much as fire. I also cycled through the timing and not a sputter. does anyone know about what these should have for compression.

For dirt the yz 400 78 give it a twist and let er buck weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. For the road a race gas rd 350 with some good pirelli tires is almost too much fun, especially when embarrassing honda cbr's
