  1. hi guys thanks for all your help . i have finally found out what the problem is its my exhaust downpipe second in from left as you sit on bike . i bought this bike for £500 with 60k on clock have drove it for a year now and have loved every minute would sell my bandit and buy a black and gold one in good order . i have changed bike to a rat survival matt black with cast iron tractor seat . the bike was found by accident at farm yard were it had being for years iam so glad i found it and brought it back to life .i know the bike is bullet proof which helps being from northern ireland haha thanks again for all your help richie
  2. sorry for late reply . the ticking seems to be coming more from the left hand side if you were sitting on the bike. will have to get another look and listen . it does seem to increase with revs . thanks
  3. hi my mate and i went for a spin on our bikes today and i noticed a ticking from my engine its a 1992fj1200abs can anyone help . my opinion is it could be one of the following . starter chain . valves . shims . cam chain . hope someone can help we have alot of bike rallies coming up and i dont want to miss them . any help welcomed
  4. hi confused , kickstarting while running ? battery might light up a small light but not have enough kick in it a battery loses power day by day . try charging batt fresh petrol as unleaded can die over time do you have a spark at plug .
  5. first of i would like to say thanks for all your suggestions on my bikes problem . spent the full day working on it . stripped and checked all switches , then out with the wiring diagram started to check all wiring from switches all round the bike and conections . i had thought it might be the solenoid so i had bought a new one of ebay during the week .so i fitted it and still no success (freak out time hated the bike )so gave in hate being beat . rang the local bike mech to see when he could take the bike it was a week . i started to tidy garage putting bike to the side and tidying all wiring when i noticed that on the solenoid there was no link washer between the large live to the small one so took it of old one turned the key pressed the start button and she fired up over the moon so old solenoid done and new one missing a bit ah the joy of it all . thanks again
  6. i bought the bike for £500 it had 60,000 miles on it. drove it for a while put another 2000 miles on it then as a winter project i decided to rat the bike . i took the rear sub frame off and fitted a cast iron tractor seat had to move abs brain from tail piece forwards . when the back end was removed i reconnected the connector blocks to see if it still worked and it did, so after spraying bike matt black , i rebuilt the bike and was amazed when it would not start . i have checked fuses , side stand, clutch switch , kill switch and also checked for a brake in blue and white wire from start button to starter solenoid hope this helps

  10. thanks jim . iwas working away from home for awhile and have just got back have give up on xj750 carbs as i think it was float needles . and my local dealer said yamaha europe has discontinued float needles . so i have put a set of xj600 carbs on that my mate had lying about . it starts fine revs fine but when i drive it holds back when up the revs like its being starved of fuel. i have not re jetted they are mikuni carbs as to hitachi that were on xj750 is it just a matter of trying different jets or is there some way to work it out do ihave to adjust float levels to . oh bike is not running rich with these carbs on . modifications are air pods/filters two pairs of two into one pipes straight through will i always have a flat spot due to pipes should i fit after market baffles cheers richie
  11. hi got it running on four today did comp test all within 10% think its the float needles as i could not set them as manual left it to rich so levels all over the place to get it to run . it is running on stock carbs with air pods mix screws 2 1/2 turns out but still rich plugs sooted up three and four the worst have three sets of carbs one set of xj 600 and two xj 750 jim cant remember about adjustment on #1 and #2 as i left it for a while due to stress the joy of it all
