    Dealing with Rust

Yes I have noted a few parts that are removable and could be properly cleaned up and painted. The rest is on the frame so I will have to try to sort it in situe. I think the previous owner was a bit lazy - when I got the bike the chrome was looking pretty bad and the exhaust seemed to have something melted onto it at the front (a plastic cover perhaps). A few hours of srubbing at it and it looks a lot better. The patches I am most unsure of are the ones on the exhaust. They are mostly around the joins and mounting brackets. The exhaust is chrome / stainless steel, so I'm not sure about painting it, and if I grease the patches the oil just burns away when it heats up. I will hunt for some silver BBQ pain and perhaps just apply it to the worst affected areas. I will also sort out a more protective cover. Cheers for the advice.

    Dealing with Rust

Hi All, I just got a YBR 125 and love it. It seemed huge when I first got it and every time I get on it it seems a little smaller The bike is only 3 years and 3000 miles old but it has quite a bit of rust on it. The rust is mostly on the frame, the exhaust mountings, the centre stand and the silver arms at the side with the rear pegs on them. What can I do to sort this? Should I grease up the patches or wire bush all of the rust bubbles and flakes and then paint it? I don't have a garage. Is having the bike outside under a "water resistant" bike cover going to make it rust considerably more?
  3. Cheers oldgit I'll give that a try. How does that brake pad look to you - the owner's manual mentions wear indicators but I dont see any - is the pad done? If they are uneven should I replace them?
  4. Just one piston. The pad on the piston side is about .75mm more worn than the other.
  5. Cheers for the reply. I took the caliper off to get a better idea of what the problem is. It seems the piston extends when I grip the lever, but when I let it go it doesnt retract. I can push it back in by hand but it is very stiff. Is this normal? I took a look at the pads too and they dont seem to have any wear indicators showing: Is there much I can do myself or is it a job for the garage?
  6. Hi all, I just got a 2006 YBR125 yesterday and am very happy with it. From what I could gather it has been sitting a while in a gaurage, although the previous owner rode it over to my house yesterday (20+ miles). I have checked most servicable aspects of the bike, but noticed whilst moving the bike around that the front disk brake squeeks a little. If I get the front tyre of the ground, it is quite stiff to turn it around (requires about 50% of my strength to get it to move). I think that the caliper is badly set. Is it possible to loosen it off a bit? I could do with a workshop manual really - where can I get one? The brake light comes on after about 0.75cm of brake lever travel. Any advice on caliper adjustment would be appreciated.
