  1. I'm running on the same idea as you chap, really want to do the conversion, however there is another option as opposed to getting all the DTX running gear. You can get your hubs re-laced onto supermoto rims for about £220 a wheel, and as far as I can see (unless your VERY lucky and find all the DTX running gear for cheap) this is the cheaper option, and you can pretty much set them up to your taste too this is where I priced them up. after that, you'll be wanting to change your fork oil to a 15w oil to stiffen the forks up a bit.
  2. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/motofiled That's the chap from portugal OG was on about
  3. Cheers for the help chaps, I already have a nearly new Conti-escape tyre on the front which seems like a good tyre, so I'll either pair it up with the same on the rear or an Avon Distanzia
  4. I was looking at these chaps http://www.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&biw=1276&bih=863&gbv=2&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=Continental+TKC80&aq=f&aqi=g1&aql=&oq= 3.5 width, but I dont know how wide i can go? might have a look at 4.10, the more coverage the better! Cheers buddy, just the info I was after
  5. Yeah all input it welcome fella! I think for the type of riding I plan to do I should really be looking at something intermediate, but I dont really know what size tyre...
  6. Evening folks! As it currently stands, when I bought my bike about a month ago, (DT125R '03) The rear tyre the previous owner had put on was a budget jobbie to get it through an MOT by the look of things. Over the weekend I nearly had a nasty accident as the rear tyre has very little grip. The road surface wasn't perfect but it was normal conditions, and the back end of the bike had a mind of its own. I'm a competent rider and I'm almost certain it's not my skill that was at fault, nor the suspension. Anyway! What tyres would you gentlemen recommend? Most of the riding I do is general commuting at the moment, but I wouldn't mind taking the bike out for some offroad hooning, before I decide to SM it. Who knows, it may change my mind! The tyres i was looking at getting are THESE Any feedback or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Cheers Sam
  7. And I think most of the trouble I'm having may be because I'm losing a junk load of compression. Whoever last fiddled with my exhaust, never re-fitted it with an exhaust gasket. Penis. I'll buy an exhaust gasket, get that slapped on, and shout back the results
  8. Yeah sorry, I didn't mean to mislead! I meant the exhaust port! Well the reed switch is removed, tucked in behind the speedo casing. I should probably put my exhaust back on now lol. Feel free to be as technical as you need by the way, I may be a newbie poster on this forum but I'm quite a 2-stroke connoisseur! I usually post over at 125ccsportsbikes.com, and used to have a Cagiva Mito (which I pretty much rebuilt from scratch) but I thought I'd try over here, there isn't too much speciality on mx style bikes over there!
  9. Thanks so far OG, now, is this the reed switch? I have also checked the powervalve movement, and when it is fully open, it sits flush against the barrel, when you switch it on, it moves nice and smoothly in and back out again. And it doesn't need cleaning, its clean as a whitsle, so my problem must lie somewhere else.... hmmm.... Should I remove the snorkel from the airbox? I also need to find out what the derestriced carb jet sizes are, if I need to change them. Cheers
  10. Hello gents, just a couple of quick questions i have about my DT... Having a small issue when accellerating in most gears, she gets up to when the powervalve should be opening (around the 7500rpm mark) and it coughs and splutters, and struggles to get past. The bike has done just over 10,000 miles, and I'm guessing the powervalve may well need a clean? However, Someone has suggested I may need to upjet? If so, what size should the full power jets be? Pretty sure I have the OEM carb on the bike. Also, the random black vacuum box that goes into the carb manifold... whats the purpose? Just out of interest, I have no need/interest to remove it. I'm basically trying to work out if my bike has been correctly derestricted, as I don't want to suddenly land myself with a seizure. all I know so far is that I have a full dep system fitted..... I had a look over the air filter and everything looks as standard, no modding, I've not actually had it long enough to crack open the carb yet, but I may well do that this weekend, to figure out what jet sizes I'm currently running. Is the '03 model affected by some sort of electrical restriction? I've read some threads on here that suggest there is a wire underneath the clocks that needs earthing out? All help much appreciated, Cheers!
  11. I think that the noise is something valve related, the tapping is constant from when i start the engine, regardless of high revs, temperature etc. Oil level is fine, possibly a touch too high but thats easily rectifiable, i was pretty sure a slightly high oil level wouldn't cause it to tap like it is. the engine power does drop, but only when the engine gets warmer, which is usually down to the spark plug? so with a slightly bigger bore kit... I presume thats something i would have to do myself, rather than being able to buy, say a 150cc lump... unless yamaha still make one that would fit? thanks for the current imput anyway! much obliged!
  12. I have has the exact same problem, What i tend to do is take off the rear brake every service, or whenever i feel its beginning to stick, as for some reason i get this every 1,000 miles or so. The assembly itself is quite simple, if you can remove it yourself I reccomend it, as you would save yourself the workshop bills!
  13. First post! I am after some guidance or some sort of assisstance with my YBR 125! I have recently aquired a nice, loud, top end tapping noise when I start my bike, I have an idea what this is, but I was after some ideas as to whether it would be more sensible to fix the problem, or to replace the engine. It is a high mileage bike, i've done around 30K, and obviously I understand these bikes arent meant to do such high mileage in such a short space of time (its an '06). I am mechanically competent enough to fix anything that has gone wrong, but i dont know how expensive it will be to buy the replacement parts, or how much would actually need replacing. So does anyone know if you can actually fit a slightly bigger engine into the YBR frame? i was thinking i could do this similtaneously if i do have to replace it! Any help would be much appreciated!
