The rivets and plates on a chain need lubricated, some lubricants last longer than others, some are more messy, some less, you could use margarine or Bertoli extra virgin olive oil (seriously), the lubrication is a friction reducer-nothing more !
my own preference is to use the old engine oil from a previous service-'cos I've already paid for it', but I'm a Jock
Scott oilers use oil-ok its got a fancy label and costs a bit, and its lazy
there are aerosols available with anti-fling lubricant,
Industrial grease could be used-but messy (black moly) for example
the idea is to keep it lubed, clean with parafin every month or so, then re lube-seemples
this is one of those 'can-o-worms' areas
each to their own

The XJ series are renowned for reliability and cheap no nonsence commuting/touring - you,ve got yourself a classic there m8
not sure about the grafted on fairing tho' , would look a million miles better if it was removed/removed and coloured the same as the rest of the bike maybe?

POLK COUNTY FLORIDA - SHERIFF GRADY JUDD
An illegal immigrant in Polk County Florida who got pulled over in a routine traffic stop ended up killing the deputy who stopped him.
The deputy was shot eight times, including once behind his right ear at close range.
Another deputy was wounded and a police dog killed.
A state-wide manhunt ensued. The murderer was found hiding in a wooded area and as soon as he took a shot at the SWAT team, officers opened fire on him. They hit the guy 68 times.
Naturally, the liberal media went nuts and asked why they had to shoot the poor undocumented immigrant 68 times.
Sheriff Grady Judd told the Orlando Sentinel: "Because that's all the ammunition we had."
The Coroner also reported that the illegal man died of natural causes.
When asked by a reporter how that could be since there were 68 bullet wounds in his body, he simply replied "When you are shot 68 times, you are, naturally, gonna die."

We are fortunate to live in a free democracy, our kith and kin slogged, sweated, and toiled for that freedom,
and we don't put a moments thought to it-until its 'Remembrance day', then we buy a poppy.
dewing the woaw !
so, 'dewing' those moments of frustration when a bolt shears, there's no spark, you walk away from the bike at a filling station-and the stand isn't down !
have a think about the determination, guts, and ingenuity of geeks/enthusiasts like this (link below) that wont be beaten-regardless of the odds, and of the people that had to use this 'determination' in anger/necessity.
Defo one for fellow 'wing-nuts' out there,,,,,,

Its a tarmac surf suit (suite) for £170-of course it aint got the re-assuringly expensive 'invincibility' add ons that you get on gear costing 3 times that much, you could make your own armour out of triple-ply milk cartons, would probably be as effective (IMHO)
-
Its a J&S retailer, part of a franchise-their stuff is 'fair' for the cost
EDIT-the boots are from a J&S retailer
the suit is not-its a bit loud ? -still looks a good price-wonder if Yamaha have endorsed the use of the name on it?
dunno
yer, buy it and give us your 'critique' on it
