  1. Hi and welcome, av been on here for a week so I'm a 'newbie' 2, and av got an xj600s which I think is very similair to the 'seca', I think its somethin to do with the marketing, anyway av not got a pic yet to post on here yet, hope to see a pic of yours too.

  2. not much more slidy than normal when its dry though definately when it gets wet,

sometimes i've noticed a bit of wheelspin when ive gunned it, can be a wee bit hairy,

but i dont go for it in the winter anyway just in case,

certainly dont want to test it ...

    ian

me neither Ian, I need to preview my posts, I meant to say doesnt 'look' too old age friendly,

  3. And of course you've tried the obvious,, although you didnt list them,

    fuel

    fuel tap

    kill switch

,or it could be your starter button/wiring

I have no idea how to test the latter, good luck, will be watching this topic, av got a divvy !

  4. This is my first winter using a bike, correct me if I'm talking 'Betty' here, do salted roads which have had no rainfall to wash them have a slight 'glaze' on them, I kno some of the other slip hazards, like- White lines, man-hole covers, 'segment transition strips (the tar line that joins, well,,,joins), banana skins, KY, and laminate flooring pieces-yep thats laminate flooring pieces.

I've not had a slide but it doesnt too 'old age friendly.

  5. Wanna borrow mine??

right after I posted that your wee avatar flashed into my mind, an I thought "oh no", the voice in my head sounding remarkably like Churchill,

no old git, I've went off trumpets

thoughts like that can leave a bad taste ! lol

  6. lol.gif

This is THE funniest thread i've seen in a long time

some of you may mock, but am 42, just got a 600 divvy (a comforting sort of name for a bike  )

so this kind of input is, well, unvaluable to no vices, like wot I am, so am gonna make a confession, yes, sometimes I am a cabron !, there.

  7. Give the Redex a go. I bought my abused 1990 XJ600 in 2006 with 28,000 on the clock and used redex occasionally. Last year (48,000 miles) I stripped the carbs with an older and wiser friend and they were very clean (except where they were completely blocked so nothing got through), there was a lot of crud in the bowls, but that cleaned easily. Some previous user/abuser had adjusted the screws on the pilots, so we counted the turns on each, checked with Mr Haynes and set them all the same as the manual said. Visually checked the opening though the valves and cleaned the crud that prevented them all closing at the same time.

Later borrowed a set of vacuum gauges and balanced the carbs.

With my XJ, use every day except in snow, it starts with full choke, starts to complain idling after 3 minutes, if have to blip the throttle waiting at lights for the next 5 minutes, then I turn it off.

Like someone else said, don't keep the starter on for long, it will also overheat your battery.

xj600s backfiring once on start, what causes might this be ?

  8. Any Diversion owner, 600 preferably, live near Elgin in the North East of Scotland ? I would like to hear from them to possibly meet and discuss the Divvy
