Hi Gillsbey and welcome to the nuthouse
I've got to admit that I didn't see your great intro (we like intro's) either, there are so many Noobs joining on a daily basis that its hard to keep up, The XJ is the 'bogs dollocks' as far as I'm concerned, great that you can get your better half out to enjoy the experience of hooning around the tarmac playground.

Hi and welcome to the nuthouse Rev

That reminds me, I don't know if you remember, but in the eighties Walkers Crisps and Durex got together to introduce crisp flavoured condoms.
When I went down to the pub one night while the wife stayed at home knitting she said bring some home after you've had as much beer as you like and I will try and guess what type of crisp flavour they are.
Three hours later when I came home the worse for the ware, she said, right, let me see if I can guess what flavour it is.
"CHEESE & ONION" she said.
"Hang on a minute" I said, "I haven't put it on yet"

I think lots and lots of 'ideas' would have been thoroughly tested out by the boffins in the automotive industry (a spring loaded bung will no doubt be amongst some of the patent applications)
DirtyDT has got it right-bungs provide most protection in a low/no speed drop-they wont save a bike getting damaged at speed as they have a minute foot-print compared to the size of the bike, I'm not suggesting your idea wouldn't sell, on the contrary-the market for aftermarket bits/bobs/spanglies and bling is huge
best of luck with your venture

Earl and Bubba are quietly sitting in a boat fishing,
Chewing tobacco and drinking beer when suddenly
Bubba says, "Think I'm gonna divorce the wife - she
Ain't spoke to me in over 2 months."
Earl spits overboard, takes a long, slow sip of beer and says, "Better think it over.............women like that are hard to find."

Ahhh, right I see it now, couldn't determine that from your rubbish technical drawing Paul

Yer Paul, that would be great on a solid rod like a hydraulic ram, I wouldn't clamp a tube in a vice though
the tube should sit 'a top' the jaws-not in them

Thought I would ressurect this thread, and dust it off
Cabinet making is my other hobby, I know Pilningas is a fellow 'woodie' are there any others out there in Y-O-C land?
