  1. My DT125X needs a new chain and sprocket set after covering 13k miles. Any advice on a decent set? I know Renthal have a reputable name, but I can't find a renthal set for the DT. Is a standard yamaha kit the way to go? Any advice gratefully received, Jam353
  2. DT125X has a 6 speed gearbox, ride height adjustable rear shock. Brembo front brake calliper, and larger front disc. Also comes with Excel Talon supermoto rims with proper road wheels (not nobblies). Pretty good as a first bike, just make sure it is de-restricted and a full DEP exhaust system makes a big difference. The DEP won't make the top end any higher, but it will pull stronger through the gears, and sounds lovely. Jam353
  3. There seem to be many DT125s with vastly varying performance out there. I wonder what people have had out of theirs? I cant find performance figures for a standard bike anywhere, ie 0-62mph, 1/4 mile, top speed etc. Has anyone timed their bike? I have an 05' DT125X, dealer de-restricted and it does over 85mph indicated speed (probs about 80mph real speed as I imagine the speedo will over read). I have since fitted a full DEP exhaust system and it pulls much better now, although I havent tried to top it out since fitting. I'm too scared it will go bang!! What have you had out of yours? 4. I advise you to just get a full DEP system. I had the same corrosion problem the original exhaust on my bike (DT125X) so I removed it, rubbed it down and painted it but it corroded again straight away. It is really simple to remove the exhaust by the way, the expansion pipe is held on by about 5 bolts, just get busy with your spanners. The back box slips over the expansion pipe and is secured with a jubilee type fastener. once the bolts are undone, it pulls forwards. Try not to twist the pipe or the 2 threads at the front of the engine. Be careful not to scratch the frame, a second pair of hands helps! I didn't use a new gasket when i fitted the DEP and there are no leaks at all. For info, it sounds like your bike has not been de-restricted at all if it tops out at 65mph. When I bought my bike I had the dealer de-restrict it (not sure exactly what they did) but the speedo needle would run past 85mph! Not sure what it will do with the DEP fitted but it pulls much harder through the mid range and top end now, and sounds lovely.
  5. I have just had a look at one at the Yamaha dealer, and there should be a 5mm hex key head on this rod, but the previous owner has snapped it off! Im going to have to get it out somehow and hope the threads on the calliper are ok. Its over £200 for a new calliper! gulp
  6. I have just tried to change the front brake pads on my 05 plate DT125X and have hit a problem. It has a brembo 2 piston calliper which I believe is standard fitment on the 'X'. Each pad has a hole on one end and a rod passes through this which connects to the calliper. There is a small clip holding this rod which I removed, yet I cant get the rod out of the calliper, which is preventing me from changing the pads. Does anybody know how to get this rod out of the way? There is no screwdriver head or socket head on either end of the rod. I have a horrible feeling that the previous owner has sheared a bolt head. Has anyone ever changed the pads who can offer me some advice? Many thanks, James.
