  1. If anyone ever needs to know, a 750 Seca/Maxim petrol tank fits straight onto a XS400 Seca/Maxim frame :D Can anyone recommend a good mail-order dealer for Yamaha parts? I just need the 3 tank mounting rubbers now! Cheers, Zed
  2. while your at it, check the lower frame mounting bolts - where the remove-able section of frame joins on. My FJ, all of them had snapped, had to drill them out to a decent size (m10, I think). also, seriously consider a dynojet kit + K&N filter. does help, drops your pull-away revs to about 800 :D & just generally brings the bike up a couple of notches. you can go down a couple of teeth on the rear sprocket - you've got more than enough power, it makes for more relaxed cruising. The place i get chain & sprox from will do it no extra charge. They were called "Trade Direct", will have to dig out the number if you want it?
  3. I have no idea - I stripped the wiring out of mine without paying any attention was worrying about it later. Be ace to see some pics of yours tho!
  4. Did you fit a bigger main jet in the carb when you did it? Did you fit a freeer-flowing air-filter? If so, fine tuning is required. If not, you've made the bike louder, which <> faster.
  5. depends WHO finds out and under WHAT circumstances. If you have an accident and the insurance company properly examine the bike, find out it's been derestricted and you havn't told them, they will refuse to pay out. If the polis think you were going faster than that bike ought to, they may take it away for investigation, and may prosecute you if you don't have the correct license. If you sell the bike to a learner as suitable for them, when it isn't, they may take you to court for misrepresentation. It's not that simple. It's also rarely worth the effort.
  6. if the chain was jumping - how slack is it? how worn is it? IE can you pull it more than a few mm off the rear sprocket?
  7. The power output is not a factor in the MoT. If it makes 4hp or or 40hp, it makes no difference to the tester - he has no means of testing it. IF your bike is mechanically sound and meets emissions regulations for that year, it will pass. You will not get into trouble with the MoT tester for having a derestricted bike. The bike is being tested, not the rider. You may get into trouble with the polis - if you do not have the correct license to ride a bike with that BHP or with your insurance company - if you do not tell them about any changes made to the bike.
  8. LOL had to sell my CBR400 a few years ago for the same reason
  9. you sir, are drunk! I had one of them. whilst proceeding along the local dual cabbageway, I noticed number 1 spark plug was hanging out. So I reached down and screwed it back in. The bike didn't go any faster Best Yamaha would be my FJ1200. But my XS650 is a close second :D

I belong to the "Smarties Puking Club" with a select few others worldwide! Well, OK, two members are now in Barbados We did have a club sidecar outfit (CZ 350 thingie) that we tried to register in the club name (as no one person wanted to be associated with it) but DVLA sulked at the word "puking" until we changed it to "party" I did belong to the NABD - my god they can drink let it lapse

    XS400 "Maxim"

Hello all! My 1st proper post. I'm putting together an XS400 DOHC Maxim/Seca thing. Major worry at the moment is the petrol tank - I just don't have one, and it'll be a real job to find one in the UK, I think. I've been offered one off an XJ750 Maxim. It looks the same shape as the pics I've seen of the 400. Does any one know if it's more or less the same size? I don't mind if it's a bit big, just don't want it to be hooooge! Thanks
