  1. Glad to hear you're coming over!

It really is an awesome sight & sound that weekend - every road in the province is swamped with all sizes & shapes of bike (and biker!), and its heaven for a bike fan.

If you wanna get a ferry that weekend & have a car, one piece of advice - FORGET IT!!

Can i also recommend that you arrange a trip over for the UGP later in the year?

Again, amazing racing with a great atmosphere.

  2. Just think of the feeling of accomplishment when you get to ride finished project bike for first time.

If rest of it turns out as well as those bits, it'll look fab.

I'm toying with idea of selling / breaking my bike.

The things I wanna do to it gonna cost quite a bit in comparison to value of bike, so maybe part company with the FZR & buy something newer.

  3. to remove the swingarm has gotta be one of the easiest jobs to do lol.

Just get some axle stands for the bike to hold it up so your engine aint sat on the deck!

Remove rear wheel, dis-engage rear shock from frame or swingarm, then undo swingarm spindle, and she'll pop right out

    Ok, thanks.

Have found a local breakers who has lots of great stock, including R6 tail units, fibreglass streetfighter units etc.

Just need to save the pennies (and get sufficient brownie points from the wife!! )

  4. Silly question - Is it hard to strip bike right down to that extent?

I'd love to get swing arm powder coated or painted to tidy it up, but am bit wary of f*cking something up during disassembly or rebuild!

I'm not totally kack handed, have decent skills, not afraid of getting hands dirty either - but still don't wanna balls up parts unnecessarily.

  5. A lot of binking fans are still unfamiliar with Road Racing, and unaware of the dedicated fans it has.

But, its amazing that once someone is taken along to an event, they always swear they'll be back & are bringing more mates.

The road racing paddock always has a great atmosphere & riders are always happy to stop and chat with fans.

  6. Ridden the circuit a few times on my road bike. Need balls of titanium to do those speeds with walls and trees everywhere. Forget any other type of racing, or even any other type of sport - these guys are REAL HEROES.

    Indeed they are!

When you hear Stoner whinge after a Moto GP race about some trivial incident, imagine what he'd do when faced with hitting a man-hole cover coming thru Station on the NW200 course flat oot with 3 other bikes in a line beside him!!!!

  7. Have to reply to this one - Goff & the mods do hell of a lot of work so us others can have this forum, its shite of anyone to start handing out abuse when not familiar with the normal practises & tone of conversations.

Handai was suspended for being a severe arse.

From us normal users - Thanks to the mods! :hail::D

  8. Ok, so i lied ... but, I am a virgin as far as being a member of this site is concerned. I wanted to say hello to everyone, and did do, but it seems that noone replied. I felt somewhat overlooked ... awww!

has anyone else out there got the same bike as I do?

    ta ... x-j

    Awww, bless.

Welcome, hope you enjoy the company.

Hope you realised its compulsary for noobs to bring biscuits for Goff????

dont wanna get on the wrong side of her! :D

  9. there is a drop down option for fzr400, does this mean R6 parts that will fit the fzr or just purely fzr400 parts?

I'm not certain, email them and ask.

I found them to be very helpful and reasonably quick to respond

  10. lol not sure how to respond to that, as my dad was a Lisburn Councillor and my brother still is!

AHA!! We found the perfect person to pressurise for more funding then!! :D

I'm sure he meant no disrespect or offence.

It is a pity it doesnt attract more sponsors, will be even tougher after last year & in the current economic sh*tpile.

Hopefully it'll still be around for years to come, I'm looking forward to taking my sons to the racing like my dad took me.

Still have happy memories of Robert Dunlop coming thru Quarries on the Norton, flames pumping out of the pipe!!

Or James Whitham (he was Jamie in those days) binning his Durex Suzuki (insert your own joke here...) into a grass bank in similar area!

    Oh, i'm getting old.......

  11. The plan is to replace the swingarm with a TZR250 swingarm, and get the frame and swingarm powder coated in satin black.

Replace the tank with a YZF600r tank, R6 rear end, R1 forks, Satin gold wheels, yolks etc... twin exhaust unit instead of 4 to 1.

YZF600r or FZR600 engine with gold casings and pro bolts, Gold braided hoses and calipers, gold wavey discs, new gold chain and sfinal drive sprocket.

remove rear sets and use R6 race hump, new grips (old ones slightly fubard! lol)

And hopefully!! the R6 race fairing (I STRESS HOPEFULLY) DREADING THAT MAMMOTH TASK!.

all items marked in bold is what im after, so if you have summat and wanna sell, then gimme a shout ;)

    Hi

    Good luck with the project.

For parts, I can recommend www.r6parts.com

The guys there are friendly, reasonably priced too. They'll have quite a few of the bits you need.

Hope this helps. Or I know of a great bike breakers local to me, PM me if I can be of any help sourcing parts there.

    Vic.

  12. Hi All.

Thought I'd start a topic about somethin that popped up in another discussion.

How do you think modern Moto GP / WSB riders would fare when introduced to the challenge of Road Racing?

Think Stoner could tackle the TT without sh*tting himself??? Would he even get to the top of the mountain??? :ambulance:

No-one can deny the skill and achievements of people like Rossi, but heroes of old like Agostini also had success on the roads. My dad still talks about guys of that era racing at the UGP. :hail:

Obviously i'm well aware the teams would never allow their superstars to 'risk' riding at the road events, but thought we'd enjoy debating anyway. Good to see people like Jonathan Rea working their way up, essentially having grown up at road racing with his dad.

So - McGuinness or Toseland round the island??? lol

  13. Yer right about the deer's leap, could McGuiness do it do you reckon, I can do it on a super bike, but thats on a PS2 game TT Superstars most times I end up with gravel rash.

I love that game! Just got the latest version - called Legends, which has older bikes too.

I'd love to see how Rossi, Stoner & some of the top circuit guys would react when introduced to NW or UGP!!

    Theres a topic to start....

I ride a 3HE FZR600 Genesis, daily rider, which I love to bits. Its in middle of a repair / upgrade at the min.

Will list pics when i get the chance.

Know Glengormley well, worked in Mallusk for over 10 years. Many a kebab I had out of Pappa's!! :)

Its a real pity that the UGP is struggling so much, its such an amazing event and would be a real loss if it faded like so many other road races have.

Dunno how familiar you are, but the old version of the circuit they used was even more insane, espec the section round the 7 Mile Straight area.

  14. I'm dead jealous of you folks - I move from NI and then take up biking  . From Lisburn originally, so would love to do the Dundrod area on a bike!

You're always welcome back !! I'm not a million miles from Lisburn, it takes a real skill to tackle Dear's Leap flat oot!!!

  15. Really? what model of Velocette is she? me and my dad were thinking of taking the Velo racer up to the UGP for the classic parade laps this year, I'm not sure if a racing licence is needed to complete the parade laps, could your father shed any light on this?

    He has a 1934 250 MAC & a 350 MOV from the fifties.

I'm not sure about the racing license, you'd be best to contact some of the officials, or maybe UGP supporters club

  16. slightly off topic - but my mate had a reasonably big off few years ago when a

stupid woman pulled out in front of him.

He said the worst bit was when the nurses in A&E asked if he had any piercings...... ;):nurse:

  17. your right there, shame about the recent weather, but I suppose it is february after all, roll on the summer. are you in a local bike club or do you just go out with some mates? I would usually go out with my dad and a couple of his mates, he rides an oul Velocette 350 viper, nearly a match for my dt lol alot of monkey bikes go out aswell, those things can go, my dad clocked his mate at 77mph on a 110 or a 140cc, cant remeber now, but its fast enough on one of those wee things!!

I normally just head out with my mates, tho sometimes join my Dad & his mates - he's in several bike clubs, mainly vintage orientated.

Funny, my dad rides a Velocette too! Spooky lol

  18. Is there anyone here from N.I? I would like to get out for a few runs comming into the good weather and was wndering is there a big Yamaha Owners Club following over here?

    Hi McKenzie,

I'm a fellow Ulsterman, so nice to hear frm u!

Not certain about YOC here, but some mates & I enjoy heading out when the chance arises.

Hard to beat Norn Iron for biking!!
