  1. Hi all,

Just wondering, all the people who have done the seat conversion to their FZR seem to have used R6 parts.

Any reason not to use R1 parts of similar shape?

    Thanks

    Vic

  2. bad news, checked my policy documents and it doesnt mention the republic of ireland, only northern ireland... may have to call swinton and see if theres anything i can do about that...

also sent an email to the DVLA in regards to my provisional licence... just have to wait and see

Hmmm, not surprised about the insurance clause.

But easy solution to your problem - change your route & tour the North instead.

Its class up here, so much to see & if you time it right (cant remember when ur going) you can catch some of the local events (road races etc)

you'll love it & you've done so much prep it'd be a shame to miss out on a trip...

  3. i'm running the original rectifier, the one that was on the bike previously. had replaced it, but swopped it back in on saturday as a trial & it worked fine.

think it looks like i'll have to check every connection and see.

never had the CDI out, but will trace the wires & see if i find anything.

thanks for the help folks, its all much appreciated.

  4. Sounds like a fuel / fuel supply problem to me ---- Has your petrol garage ever had a water - in - fuel history ?

Can you disconect the fuel pipe and see how much / how little fuel flow you have

Do you have in-line filters ?

Are the tap filters clean -- inside the tank

Is the air vent clear -- simply opening the fuel cap when trying to rev it will eliminate this possibility if nowt else

    Nil Desperandum

there is an in-line filter, flow to the filter & thru the filter seemed good.

i'm not aware of any water-in-fuel probs with the garage but u never do know!

think i'll strip it right down, throw the petrol away, replace inline filter, clean jets again (just incase).

a friend has recommended checking the floats for damage as well.

Just frustrated, love using my bike for commuting on wonderful country roads, but not a pleasurable experience at the minute......

  5. It could be fuel starvation. When you filled up with fuel, you might have taken up some dirt or released some that's got into the lines, fuel tap or carbs. Try cleaning it all and put fresh fuel in.

did that - emptied tank, checked flow thru fuel filter, then filtered fuel before putting it back in.

  6. Hi has the bike got TPS (throttle position sensors) I seem to remember that this type of symptom can be caused by those going down, try doing a search.

To be honest, I dont know.

    Its a 1993 3HE FZR600 Genesis.

I'll use trusty google & see what i can find.

    Thanks for replying, much appreciated

  7. That was Saturday. Rode bike over weekend, no probs.

Then came out this morning to go to work on it.

Halfway to work, problems reappeared. At one point, bike fired thru exhaust, lost all power. Got it started again, but tho i was holding throttle full open, bike was still revving at idle.

Picked up again few secs later & lumpily took me on to work.

I'm totally baffled. Started to wonder if its electrical/electronic & problem went away because the system had reset when i swopped the rectifier?? :banghead:

Any help would be greatly appreciated cos i'm ready to wheel it into a shed, lock the door & go by a Suzuki instead.

  8. This is driving me mad. :pissed-off:

I have another post asking for help diagnosing problem with my FZR (its in workshop section) but i'm getting desperate so asking for help again.

Recently got the bike on road again after cosmetic repairs.

Ran great for first few days, until i stopped & filled up with fuel. Instantly, bike ran lumpy, wouldnt idle, felt like its running off a cylinder.

So i have cleaned plugs, checked plug leads, cleaned airbox & airfilter, stripped carbs & cleaned all the jets.

None of this helped. In a random attempt to cure it, i changed the voltage regulator back to an old one (had been changed recently cos old one blows bulbs) & problems disappeared instantly.

    ADDITIONAL:-

Dunno if helps diagnosis, but when i'm riding the bike it's reluctant to rev past around 6k rpm, but if you pull the clutch in it'll rev thru range no problem.

  9. Goff, u def get a huge amount of respect from me for this one!!

Any arse can go in a limo, but how many kids will arrive by boom??

As someone who was bullied at school i can def relate to how much it sucks.

I was always the smallest, skinny smart kid with glasses so was an easy target.

BUT - after I left secondary school I suddenly changed.

I'm now 6'3, not skinny anymore, got laser surgery & have been made a much stronger person by my experiences.

Still bump into the bullies sometimes, they're normally putting my shopping into carrier bags while i'm a successful engineer!!!!

Guess the old saying is true, he who laughs last..... :D

  10. Update!!

I've spent ages trying to get to the bottom of the problem.

Did all obvious stuff, plugs, filter, leads, hoses, etc then stripped carbs down & cleaned all the jets.

    No f**king improvement at all.

Was about to wheel it into a corner & burn it when i decided to try a desperation move.

Had recently changed the voltage regulator cos old one was blowing bulbs, but swopped back to my old one - problems solved instantly!!

    Weird.

I'm soooo relieved, but now need to look for yet another reg cos original blows headlight bulbs randomly.

  11. On the lookout for a GSXR750 oil cooled engine to go in my frame now.

    Goff,

Know you seem to be a GSXR fan, but i recently found a 1994 ZXR750 which would be ideal for a project.

Has been in a spill, but damage seems restricted to bodywork only.

Frame seems undamaged, forks just need realigned, engine tunring over ok.

Guy was asking £300 but i reckon £150 would buy it.

Only prob being its over here in Norn Iron.....

Thought i'd let you know just incase (part of me tempted to buy it, repair & flog to fund my own projects!!)

P.S. I know theres been a lot of 'debate' on this thread about damaged bikes being fightered, but if anyone wants to kick off about my post/suggestion, dont waste your time or mine - the only response you'll get will be my size 12 boot.....

  12. Update

Did bit more tinkering last night.

Flow through fuel filter is fine, no blockage there.

Airbox had some creamy goo in it, so cleaned it all out.

Noticed airbox doesnt seat very well, think has been removed at some point not reinstalled correctly & has aged out of shape.

Removed plugs, cleaned them again. They show bike has been running very rich.

Ran out of time, so put her back together but no improvement.

So next stage is to strip carbs & check pilot jet & main jet.

    Fingers crossed.....

  13. I've been riding trials bike since approx 6 years old, my main advice would be just to enjoy the day.

If you fall, get up and keep going. Dont worry about being embarassed, everyone will prob take a visit to the ground at some point.

Oh, and try not to lose your temper - you'll only try to go too hard & end up on your arse in spectacular style!!

    Have fun

  14. Is it the fuel itself?

You may have to do a draindown and use alternative fuel from another garage just to make sure that isn't the cause.

Is the reccommended fuel for that unleaded? Mine is.

Just in case you have put a higher octance fuel in. Or need additive.

Alternatively have you lost compression? I am just going through a rebuild with mine after losing power.

    Try fuel to start with.

Compression seems ok, cos at some points bike pulls great (like it should).

Think full draindown is next step.

The problem literally started as i pulled away from the pumps, thought that might be too quick to relate to the fuel i'd just filled up with.

This may sound silly, could it be bad earth problem on electrics causing ignition problem?

  15. Hi folks,

    Need opinions please.

Recently got my FZR600 (3HE) back on road.

Ran fine for first few days.

Then, first day I tried to use it for work, it initially ran ok until i stopped for fuel.

Since then, feels like bike is running off a cylinder - very lumpy, really down on power, stalls every time you slack off at a junction.

I've cleaned plugs, checked plug leads. Also replaced rear can cos original had blown out. But problem persists.

When first started, bike idles ok, but shortly into journey it misbehaves again. During a journey, it kinda surges as if trying its best to pull as it should, then back to running like a dog.

Anyone got any ideas / suggestions?

My next step is to pull plugs out again, clean carbs, empty tank to look for dirt etc.

    Thanks for reading!

  16. Picture300.jpg

Repainted blue, never did like the yellow.

New warrior can, wavey discs.and nitron rear shock, she's like a new bike again

Looks good! Can i be bit rude & ask how much colour change paintjob cost (ballpark figure)? I'd love full respray on my bike to freshen up

  17. You do get what you pay for, though.

About the only thing I have left that still does it's job is a disclock and that only because I am a locksporter who knows a bit about how to look after such things.

The waterproofs aren't. The radio headsets are poorly wired. The jackets are a touch flimsy.

They do for your first set of kit, but don't expect them to last more'n a couple of years.

Sounds about right, I did try on waterproof suit - was total crap.

Was an XL, but it still tried to lift my gonads into my lower intestine while also making sure my ankles were completely uncovered!!

But my boots are grand for the money - as u say u cant expect too much for buttons....

In all honesty, is any gear gonna last for more than few years? Even if quality allows a long life, most ppl still seem to change after few years anyway.

  18. Beer & jaffa cakes - now that's living. Almost as good as a bacon sarnie with heinz salad cream.

    Oh no!

brown sauce every time on a bacon sarnie! :hungry: :hungry: :hungry:

  19. I know, I know - bit of a surprise that I can actually read!!

But this book is well worth a look.

Its a collection of pictures of Road Racing, and it highlights just how amazing these guys are and the stories back up the opinions about how friendly the atmosphere and riders are.

    hardroads.jpg

Especially good is the story & pics about Martin Finnegan (RIP)

    Highly recommended.

P.S. - I'd still love to see Stoner try the Roads - he'd fill his leathers!!

  20. I know you're nothing like that Goff (we all know ur hot) - but had to show the other end of the scale (couldnt be any further away!)

Thought it might make a few folk grin tho.

Sorry if u took any offence. Am I forgiven? :eusa_pray:

  21. Shall I put you out of your misery you sorry lot . Jaffa cakes had to defined once upon a time to see if they were a luxury Item for taxation reasons. The boffins at Mcvities made a 25 cm one to test. The simple answer to the debate is this............ Biscuits when they go stale turn SOFT. Cakes however go HARD when they go off and if you leave a Jaffacake long enough it will go Hard making it 100% of the cake veriety! IM FULL OF USELESS CRAP LIKE THAT- ACCORDING TO MY GIRLFREIND IM JUST FULL OF CRAP !
