  1. You are talking about the cooling fins of an air cooled cylinder and cylinder head, rinse, spray muc off, brush it in and rinse off, much as you are already doing.

    Also..

    Newly painted exhaust

Can i ask you olgitonabike what you used on the exhaust? I used back to black which was recommended off a friend and it more or less burnt off within a week! it was left to dry properly!!

  2. Whoa guys getting pretty hot in this debate! I would like to say thank you though as i did used to spray WD-40 on my chain instead of chain lube ooops! I dont really know my stuff on bikes unlike you lot( im learning and thats one reason why im on here and to ask advice). I have just had a new chain on my Yam TW please tell me how to keep it clean and lubed? I ride my bike nearly everyday and i have horses so it gets covered in mud, water etc and its impossible for it to stay clean,it ends up with a black layer of crap that sticks to the lube and is really greasy, also which chain lube is best? thanks!

  3. I have to agree that 2 or even 3 pairs is def best especially with the wonderfull summer we are supposed to be having/had! Its always a good idea to have spare everything coz when its pissing down (like everyday this week) its not nice pulling on wet things especially gloves yuk! I prefer thick gloves with good protection although im riding in a summer pair at the mo but its personal preferance really,as long as you feel comfortable and in control of your clutch and brake, thicker gloves do take abit of getting used to but are well worth it when its colder and you dont have to spend a lot of money on them as they all do the same job ,my buffalo gloves cost me a tenner and are mint! there warm, pretty waterproof and have protection ;)

  4. I visited Malta once when I was younger - Beautiful place, Fantastic weather and all the above gripes!

I was too young for a motor, but I did cycle around a bit - and I'll agree - Crazy car drivers and tiny little bits of road between potholes...

As for the Vanity vs Safety issue - I'm gonna go out on a limb here...

When the weather is fine and the it's baking hot - *hangs head in shame* - I have been known to go out wearing trainers, shorts and a shirt...

    I KNOW, I know - I shouldn't, I know if I come off it'll be agony and I know it's a silly risk.

    *here come the excuses*

Only on bright clear sunny days,

    Only by myself,

Only "cruising speed" (more than 50mph gets too chilly anyway)

    NEVER on the motorway!

    On the flip side -

I wear a Hi-vis vest over my jacket to and from work (commuting ain't about style - its about surviving!)

My waterproofs are Hi-vis too (if it's raining, visibility is reduced and breaking distances increase... so I want to be seen!)

I'm a BIG fan of Draggin Jeans - two jackets and lots of jeans/camo's/combats... The jackets are ace for those hot, sunny days and I now at least wear the Ultra-light whenever I go out (it's cool enough for even the hottest of days!). The jeans are my everyday trousers - which makes it a lot easier to jump on the bike at a moments notice.

Pillions MUST be wearing decent gear, Boots/Jacket/Gloves/Lid/Trousers NO heels/skirts/bare-hands - If the worst happens, pillions come off the worst! also, no speeding with a pillion.

p.s. When I had the GS - I ALWAYS wore ALL the right gear.

Apologies for length - you may flame me now...

Nothing wrong with hi-viz dude! Rave's made em cool! I wear mine so i can be seen and so car drivers can't say "oh i didn't see you"!!

  5. Thanks guys great help, its a one part,i knew it was knackered as it was starting to sound like a boy race's car exhaust! bikebreakers is great! got one ordered i just hope its ok but the chap sounded genuine so we'll see....

  6. I simply love to hear (read) how you crazy brits talk! ha ha. I have to use context clues to decipher all the slang. Anyhow - I thought that I would add that over here in the states NOBODY wears proper gear. Maybe one in 25 riders I see has the "right" gear. Take in mind that I think we have a larger contingency of Harley jerks and custom idiots. But even dudes on crotch-rockets seem to prefer shorts, sneakers, and t-shirts. From what I gather I doubt that you all would enjoy the riding experience over here quite as much. I think you take your riding much more seriously. dont know tho- i could be wrong. cheers!

An American calling us Brits crazy! lol! We have fun but like having skin too! My friend came off his bikewearing jeans and trainers (or sneakers) skidded down the road on his side ripped his jeans to ribbons and his skin he had stitches all down one side and on his feet were his sneaker/trainer flew off and had to have the tarmac removed from his cuts umm each to their own but i think the point is we have fun but have respect for what we ride and what can happen instead of looking `cool`. ;)

  7. It might be more expensive than i thought my garage looked at my exhaust and said it is in a bad state,i also need a new chain and new exhaust for it to pass its mot and its going to cost me £400 in total inc mot and labour, seems a bit steep!

  8. Hi everybody my yamaha tw 125 needs a new exhaust any ideas on where i can get one and roughly how much? My garage said about £150 and it may take a while as my bike's an import, so i thought i'd ask on here coz you all know your stuff

  9. I quite agree, it makes me laugh seeing women in heels on bikes because they must be so uncomfortable and prob freezing as we have all been victims of that frozen calf feeling! It's worrying tho that they are willing to sake vanity for safety. I wear my bike gear and it doesn't bother me at all and i like nothing better than razzing my bike round my horses field covered in mud just for the fun of it!! :D

  10. Thanks everybody! I knew I was right, it makes me so angry coz as soon as I pulled up I knew he would target me, one coz I have a motorbike and two as Im female and have a motorbike! He's probably never ridden or sat on a bike in his life, the dickhead.

  11. Hi im new so hi to all! I have a Yamaha tw 125 and i stopped outside my local shop (only wanted some fags!) and a community support officer made a point of coming over and trying to tell me my back 'tyre' he said is illegal,i thought he ment my knobbly's which are the road legal ones but he said my back wheel should be the same size as the front,to which i replied er no that is legal and that is how the tw's are am i going mad?! please tell me im right coz the guy was a prick :angry:
